Regina (reginar) Ali, I totally get what you mean. I think it is b/c so many readers weren't aware that there are some fun and intersting erotica/romance books with HEA out there and now they associate it with 50.

message 3852: by Annette (new)

Annette I am reading Taking Shots (Assassins #1) by Toni Aleo and

Also Defying the Odds (Battered Hearts, #1) by Kele Moon

Yea, I've read the series all the way through 3 times, and the first book 5 times... I'm a DT fan/nerd :D

message 3854: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Good to hear Kit, I will come bother you about this series then. I heard that smoe fans were disappointed with the final book.

I've read one book by her and it was VERY good. Erotica but with a good plot so I'm really up to read something else by her...but I agree that $1.99 for 1/8 of the book is pricey. The whole book would come out at almost $16!

But I guess that publishers want to make as much money as possible from the whole Fifty Shades thing.

I'm right there with you... I think i'm going to have to say no to this one on principal because I don't like what they are doing. But it's hard, I've been reading a lot of not so great books lately. I just don't like the "50" band wagon and i'm a little nervous about the "installment" series that seems to be cropping up lately. If this is too successful this might be the future of some of our favorite authors. I think this is how they are will get people to spend more for less. Personally, I just read too much-to fast justify the cost.

Even as I type this, and see the positive reviews.... I have a bad feeling. That there will chicken ramen dinners in my future.

message 3857: by D.G. (new)

D.G. LOL, Ali!

I'm just not in a rush to read anything so I'm rarely tempted to buy a book the day it comes out. I do it rarely and mostly with authors I want to support.

I have Taking Shots on my list but I read reviews about all the grammatical errors. You'll have to let me know what you think when you're done.

message 3859: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished The Ripple Effect (Rhiannon's Law, #3) by J.A. Saare . This is different from the first 2 books but still very satisfying when I finished.

I will read Magic Gifts (Kate Daniels, #5.4) by Ilona Andrews next and then probably start Gunmetal Magic afterwards.

message 3860: by Leea (new)

Leea I've got to put Gunmetal Magic aside, nothing to do with the book but i'm scheduled to do a buddy read with Wendy and I already know I wont have time to read GM tonight.

I'm going to start Unholy Magic (Downside Ghosts, #2) by Stacia Kane

message 3861: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) THat works out well Leea, because I finished Clockwork Prince and I can start Unholy Magic too.

I am actually rereading it. It does have errors, but I am not a stickler for those things. I am all about liking the character and I do. The story is very sweet and it is the 1 st in a series.

Well, Stacia, I read it and it's very well written. That's about all I can say about it. I don't know if it was the stylistic choice of the writing or the content itself, but I always felt like I was at a distance from the characters. I never got invested and ultimately, it just left me feeling indifferent to the entire story. So, that's my take.

The first time I read it I didn't like it, but now, having just recently read it for the third time, I liked it rather well. But it depends, some have loved and some still hate it :)

Whatever errors I found were minor (missing space between 2word) but nothing that effects the flow of the story. I absolutely fell in love with the hero. Really a sweet and sometimes funny love story.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Thanks for letting me know Tellulah. Maybe I'll give it a pass then.

I always feel weird if I have a day where I don't really get online and check in with people and groups. It's as if the GR universe explodes and there's so many posts!

Finished While It Lasts (Sea Breeze, #3) by Abbi Glines and it was a sexy, sexy book. Nothing new or different from any of the author's other books (which annoys me) but I like how the author writes sexual tension. Story-wise it was less than average but I soldiered through for the sexy times because they were yummy.

Starting Fighting to Survive (As The World Dies A Zombie Trilogy, #2) by Rhiannon Frater because I had to get off the romance train before I started getting hives over too much drama.

message 3869: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn (caitlynj) Stacia, is While it Lasts one of those books where you can skip the others in the series? I'm usually a stickler for starting a series at the start but sometimes it's better to not bother.

I did start Untamed, I really liked Surrender and heard the series just gets better. Surrender had lots of historical detail, the era and the war that's occurring in the series was touched on briefly in my history class and I knew what my history professor was talking about because of the books. I'm not going to let him know that's where I get my information from, although he brings up True Blood regularly therefore he cannot judge.

message 3870: by Pat (new)

Pat I've been glued to the Olympic coverage on TV for the whole week and haven't touched a book! I downloaded a few new selections today. The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks , 'The Secrets of Mary Bowser', 'The Light Between Oceans' The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman and 'On Blue Falls Pond' On Blue Falls Pond by Susan Crandall . This is a new author for me and so far I'm enjoying her work! :)

I am currently reading Fish & Chips (Cut & Run, #3) by Abigail Roux . I can't put this series down. These men have consumed my life and I am enjoying every damn minute of it.

If you ladies love m/m you have to read this series. They are sooooooooooo good.

The first book can be skipped altogether because it's not connected to the other books other than 2 of the characters make a brief cameo but they don't do anything. I'd recommend not reading the first book because it was awful (it was her first ever publish iirc). The second and third were more interesting and had a decent level of steam compared to the first.

You have to read them. They are so good. I just want to go home and read right now. I haven't been anxious like this about a series since BDB.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments finished Kiss the Dead (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #21) by Laurell K. Hamilton which i enjoyed after i finished the first 100pgs or so. it was time for Anita to get back to St. Louis. the ending was a bit lacking but not too terrible.
now i'm on to Saddled and Spurred (Blacktop Cowboys, #2) by Lorelei James . i'm definitely looking forward to this one ;)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Guys, I hate to ask this but we probably shouldn't use the group as a the place to conduct file sharing. If you choose to share books, maybe message the person privately? That way it's on the individual user to take responsibility for their actions.

I don't want to see our group get in trouble because of something that violates the GR ToS.

haha Leea!! i really like it. actually better than her Rough Riders series (although, i've only read one book in both series). plus Blacktop was my first series by James.
i just liked the characters better. but both series are fun. and Saddled and Spurred is starting off really well. the heroine in the story is hard working but struggling and i know will meet and get with the man of her dreams (nice cowboy). hehe. definitely give the series a read. it's great fun.

Thanks Stacia, I'll keep that in mind about While it Lasts.

Regina (reginar) LOL!! I remember strongly disliking that book Ali, I really thought the ending was way too convenient (view spoiler)

I finished The Renfield Syndrome (Rhiannon's Law, #2) by J.A. Saare and I loved it! I am reading now Off the Grid (Monkeewrench #6) by P.J. Tracy and finishing up The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King

message 3886: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina, I'm so glad you liked The Renfield Syndrome! I really liked the 3rd book but think that TRS was better. Are you planning on reading the next one?

I found a rock star read: Foolish Games by Leah Spiegel . It's ok so far. I'm still looking for others if anyone has any suggestions. Especially any Rock Stars who are addicted to drugs, alcohol or skanks and then turns around by the end.

message 3887: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments I finished this About Last Night by Ruthie Knox . It's now my fav book of the year... Sexy romance and knitting... My two favorite things :) I'm a little nervous to read her other book, don't want to ruin the love hangover.

Kay, am interested in your rock star wish list, Would like to be groupie with you when you find the one

message 3895: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, we cant all like the same books. That would make for good conversation :)

I'm really getting into Unholy Magic (Downside Ghosts, #2) by Stacia Kane . I feel like we're finaly getting a snapshot of what Chess has gone through. It's not pretty to read and it's way worse than I thought. Oh. My. God. How did she survive that? Her drug problem is finally making me uncomfortable and the scene where (58%) (view spoiler)

I'm really enjoying this series! I might have to read book 3 sooner than I thought.

message 3896: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That scene is so emotional. Kane writes it raw, doesn't she? Damn, I could feel Chess's desperation. Just like in that bar scene in the first book -- I could feel both her and Terrible's awkwardness, pain and embarrassment.

message 3897: by Leea (new)

Leea yeah, it's raw and hard to read at times. I have such empathy for Chess, so i'm not judging her actions. But reading the scene where (68%) (view spoiler)

message 3898: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yes yes Leea! Exactly. I don't know why, but I don't judge her either, but it doesn't lessen the pain. You are so right.

message 3899: by Leea (new)

Leea I feel like i'm just beginning to learn a little piece of what she went through. Numbing the pain and sadness with drugs is the only way she knows how to deal with it. It's working so far but I have a feeling that's all going to go downhill.
