How funny D.G. I was just thinking how much I want Peruvian food. A friend of mine just told me about an amazing place not that close to me but close enough. I am hoping to give it a try this weekend. I have been craving Peruvian food.

My sis and I usually take turns cooking dinner but she recently moved and hasn't settled in so we have gone over a month without cooking. I am so broke. LOL!

Courtney | 337 comments I'm reading The Hostage (Great Chicago Fire Trilogy #1) by Susan Wiggs and I'm really liking it so far! I also like the author's writing style, which is so glaringly different, and better, than Michelle Sagara's. Perhaps I'm a little biased.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Marcella wrote: "Kay wrote: "Thanks Regina and Stacia! Unfortunately, I'm working today. I have no plans. I'm taking my 4 year old to his hip hop class and then ordering take out from my fave sushi joint. That's ab..."

I didn't see this. Happy belated Marcella! Sorry everyone had to work on their special days.

message 3258: by Leea (new)

Leea I hate having to prepare EVERY meal for my family. Ugh! You ladies are so lucky ;)

I hope Luis had a great birthday and is on the mend so he can start cooking soon.

So many birthdays!! I'm planning my husbands right now (August) and I have no clue what to get him for his birthday.

The camping trip was so much fun but i've done like 8 loads of laundry and now I'm working on washing the boys tye dyed shirts. I hope they turn out *fingers crossed*

We're all sitting down now for some quiet time (never works, hope it does today) so I can read. I want to finish Rock Chick Revenge so I can finally start Defiant (MacKinnon's Rangers, #3) by Pamela Clare

Sorry, i'm rambling today!

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Thanks ladies for the birthday wishes. I had a great day. I watched a movie I wanted, Brave, which was great and went to one of my favorite pizza places. On Saturday I went to dinner with my family and bff and had a great time.

I was planning on taking my birthday off and pamper myself but my boss and office manager decided to be out of town and I had to hold down the fort. Guess it pays to be the boss and the boss's pet.

message 3262: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Happy birthday Marcella! I loved Brave, so good.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You're hilarious, Leea.

message 3264: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I ended up having to cook. After I posted here I thought that maybe my husband had cooked something (he does that sometimes...cooks something for me to reheat) but I just found a few boiled eggs.

message 3265: by Leea (last edited Jul 16, 2012 07:58PM) (new)

Leea I eat a boiled egg for breakfast most morning. It's better than nothing and we're super busy in the mornings. We had pizza... I didn't have the energy to cook tonight.

I'm going to start Defiant (MacKinnon's Rangers, #3) by Pamela Clare - super excited!!

Thanks Wendy! I really did love it too. The soundtrack was a little disappointing but otherwise, the movie was great.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments Regina and DG, have u guys read anything else by Laura Leone? that was such a great book i wanna read more by her.

Kay, i'm pretty much a stickler on reading in order so i'll start with Paradise first. darn me and my stickler tendencies. hehe. i'm sure i can find Paradise easily though. and i'll be sure to look for Double Standards as well. thanks and Happy B-day!

message 3268: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments downloaded Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris (e-book) and Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, #6) by Carrie Vaughn (audiobook). i'll be reading and listening to those and then i'm thinking A Lick of Frost (Meredith Gentry, #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton after if i don't receive my interlibrary loan by then.

message 3269: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Eek did you buy Deadlocked? I hope you enjoy it. My review says what I was thinking but I was hugely disappointed.

message 3270: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Domino - That's the only book I've read by her. It seems she's writing other genres now under a different pen name and they don't call out to me (the covers look a bit wacky.)

message 3271: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I bought a re-release but haven't read it yet Disappearing Nightly (Esther Diamond, #1) by Laura Resnick

message 3272: by Susan (new)

Susan Today I'm reading Spring Fever by Mary Kay Andrews. My first book by this author but wont be the last! I'm on the hunt for all of them now!!

message 3273: by D.G. (new)

D.G. OMG! Fifty Shades is no longer in the Top 10 in Amazon! Finally!!!

message 3274: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Wow! That is amazing.

It is still in the top 10 downloaded through overdrive/libraries.

message 3275: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I wouldn't doubt it! The lines are my library for those books are huge.

message 3276: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Sorry for the repost ...

I am really surprised that I am enjoying the audio of A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness it is nothing amazing. I see the comparison to Twilight, but it is solid entertainment so far.

I am also reading Tell The Wolves I'm Home A Novel by Carol Rifka Brunt which was a random grab at edelweis and it is so good, I have already cried.

message 3277: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Boiled eggs are sometimes just perfect meals. :) Especially in the morning with toast! I should make some up!

Hahaha Leea, I will let my husband know. I am ticked, yesterday my SIL didn't take my kids outside allllll day. They had swim class in the morning but then watched TV all day. When I came home (late) at 8:15 pm, my 3 youngest were crying and my 6 year old (who is a little philosopher) said to me, "mommy, we have so much energy. We can't just stay inside all day. Especially since papa used to take us outside all day long." I know it is hard for my SIL, but I wish she would stop re-arranging my kitchen and take the kids outside. Unfortunately, today it is 100 degrees here with close to 100% humidity, so I am guessing they need to stay inside. Hopefully she will figure out some activities to do instead of TV.

DG I hope your dinner was good. A neighbor brought over some quiche, so I had a good dinner after all. ;)

Anyone ever had an injured spouse who wasn't mobile for a longish period of time? I need ideas to keep his spirits up -- I had one and yeah, we did that last night, lol, but Luis's spirits are really down. He is now so sad and defeated. If you have been through this -- and have ideas, I'd love them. He has been doing a combination of reading books and watching TV and then playing games with the kids. He can't do much more.

message 3278: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That second book you're reading looks interesting, Regina.

In other news, this will be the first and last time that I accept a book for review directly from an author. I can tell right now that I won't like the book but now I feel honor bound to listen to it...I warned him I would write an honest review but I know I won't be as harsh as usual.

message 3279: by D.G. (last edited Jul 17, 2012 07:54AM) (new)

D.G. Ah, Regina. I feel for Luis (and for you!) A few times my husband has had back troubles where he's had to be almost immobile for several days and he gets in such a dark mood that nothing I do (except what you did, LOL!) makes him feel better. In John's case, he likes to be left alone - I've surmised that in his testosterone fueled brain, it's better if his woman doesn't see him in a weak state (I tell you, when they're sick, men revert to cavemen.)

Maybe I'll ask my husband to some advice about Luis. He'll probably relate.

message 3280: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thanks DG -- I would appreciate it. He sounds very active like my guy, so that would be helpful.

message 3281: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Interesting -- can you share which book?

Tell The Wolves I'm Home is really good so far. I am so glad I grabbed it.

message 3282: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (fivesunflowers) | 15 comments Currently reading: Life of Pi by Yann Martel and Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín

message 3283: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I absolutely loved Life of Pi. It has been about 8 or 9 years since I read it, but I remember loving it.

message 3284: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "Interesting -- can you share which book?"

It's the book I'm listening now The Watchman of Ephraim. My listening has slowed down to snail paces because I'm not into the book much. And the narration is actually good so I don't like it when I speed it up. But I guess I'll have to it.

And I get the impression this is a christian fiction because the character has a prayed a couple of times and it seems as if he does it a lot.

message 3285: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh and my dinner was great! I made a black bean soup with broccoli, potatoes, sausage and some other veggies. It was a bit hot for soups (LOL!) but I'm not a very experienced cook (and not creative at all) so my way to make sure I eat the good stuff is to mix them all together. :)

message 3286: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL, that second paragraph made me laugh. :) I think you are right: http://www.jarryjornopublishing.com/a...

message 3287: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh boy! That'll teach me to do a little research. I mean, I checked but the book is a political thriller so it never even crossed my mind that there would religious character.

I usually don't mind if the character are religious but this guy is a billionaire hedge fun manager and I don't think he's even 50. A man like that it's probably driven and very ruthless, not the type that you think has a personal relationship with his savior.

message 3288: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) :) LMAO DG.

I swear, I think I posted this in the other group (YA-MA) but I have a knee jerk reaction -- I can't read religious books. Something is wrong with me.

I am writing a review for
Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson right now. This has to be one of the most creative fantasy/urban fantasy/computer adventure books I have ever read -- seriously up there with Ready Player One but different. The author is a convert to Islam, and American ex-pat now living in Egypt. So she has a very interesting perspective. I think it is a great book to read. Faith and belief is definitely a huge factor in the book. But I do think it is such an amazing book that I am glad I didn't know that going in -- so my knee jerk reaction didn't have time to go off. I think for me, it was really good to stretch myself and push myself to leave behind my judgments. Not about Islam, which I don't have negative judgments about - -but about faith (even though I do go to church most weeks, to me it is a private thing ...) Wow -- derailed from romance!

I've been eyeing that one based on the great cover. Now I'm definitely going to read it.

message 3290: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It is a definite must read for fans of fantasy/urban fantasy and/or books set in non-western settings.

Hey Leea and Kay - how far did each of you get in Virgin River? Man, I am jonesing for the next release. I wish I wasn't caught up in that series.

message 3291: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I don't mind reading about religious characters if
a) there's no preaching
b) it makes sense to the character

For instance, the heroine in The Sleeping Night is religious but it made sense for her because she's a poor young woman living in Texas at the time of WWII. But when you think of a billionaire hedge fun manager in the 21st century, religion is not the first thing to come to your head. I think more of expensive suits, private jets, and backroom deals.

message 3292: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I see what you are saying. I am not sure if there is preaching in Alif or not. That is my questioning of it.

haha! thanks D.G. i did take a look at her other works here on goodreads and they didn't jump at me either. hopefully in the future she'll decide to write something as good as Fallen from Grace again.

message 3296: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Anyone want to plan a buddy read for one of Fallen From Grace author's other books?

message 3297: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina - Did you read or listen to Urban Shaman? It's on sale for $5.95 on Audible so I'm thinking of getting it.

message 3298: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Hmmm, I am interested. I listened to Heart of Stone (same author) and enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it. I have heard good things about Urban Shaman.

message 3299: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I notice that the narrator for that series, DG, changed after book 1. I guess it could have happened for any number of reasons.

message 3300: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Hmmm...I'll probably won't get it then. If I like the narration, I'll be pissed off that it won't be the same narrator for the following books!
