Regina (reginar) What a great guy!

message 3152: by D.G. (last edited Jul 11, 2012 07:06AM) (new)

D.G. He's the best. :)

But now I have soo many devices in my purse!

message 3153: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LMAO.

message 3154: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's so sweet!

message 3155: by Leea (new)

Leea That's why my purse is so big. haha!

I finished Rock Chick Redemption (Rock Chick, #3) by Kristen Ashley and it was a vast improvement from the last book. I have this urge to jump right into Vance's book but I also don't want to get to burnt out on KA's writing style so i'm going to read, Survivors (Aftertime, #1.5) by Sophie Littlefield . I'm hoping it's a short read.

It's going to be a hot one today, 103. That might be too hot for the pool.

message 3156: by Pat (last edited Jul 12, 2012 09:05AM) (new)

Pat I seem to (happily) be on a roll of great reads! Most recently Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum by Jenna Blum...terrific.

Also discovered an oldie The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher and loved it!

I was really surprised to love The Magic of Ordinary Days by Ann Howard Creel as much as I did! And also enjoyed The Bungalow by Sarah Jio .
I've got quite a few WWII/Holocast novels lined up on my e-reader so thought I take a break and have chosen The Orphan Master by Jean Zimmerman . Hope my good luck continues!

That is so nice!

Courtney | 337 comments I'm reading Cast in Shadow (Chronicles of Elantra, #1) by Michelle Sagara West and it's pretty confusing to me. And I really don't like when that happens. Reminds me of how I felt when I read Cold Magic (The Spiritwalker Trilogy #1) by Kate Elliott .

I ended up thinking it was cute at the end. The first half felt like an instructional sex video. Book 2 looks like it's going to be good.

message 3160: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 38 comments Currently reading research mainly, though it's quite rewarding in its own way. Just now Boy Soldiers of the Great War Their Own Stories for the First Time by Richard Van Emden

message 3161: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Research for what?

message 3162: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am reading Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson and it is an adventure/computer fantasy story set in an unnamed middle eastern country. It is one of the best books I have read all year. It is amazing. In a way it is like Ready Player One in that the concept of the book and the adventure is both completely new/unique and it is computer based. The setting is amazing. I wish I had more time to read.

Today is my first day back in the office and I am so nervous about what is happening at home.

message 3163: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 38 comments Regina wrote: "Research for what?"

A historical romance ;)

message 3164: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm sure it feels good to be back at work though too.

I've seen that book all over, I'll have to get a copy so I can read it!

message 3165: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Very intersting!

message 3166: by Steelwhisper (new)

Steelwhisper | 38 comments Oh yes, that time period is really intriguing. :)

Wendy, I got it from NG (if you mean Alif). It was Catie's review that tipped me off, the cover didn't catch my eye on NG, but I am so glad I read it. IT is a male protag but a female author and I really like how she is writing him. There was a romance in the beginning and now hints of another -- it is in the adventure running part. I am loving it.

It does feel good to be here. Nobody is pulling on me and begging one more hug before they leave my office at home to let me work. And I was sitting in the basement overanalyzing everything my SIL was doing. Good to be here.

message 3168: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I did mean Alif. I read Caties review and that was one that made me look at it too.

I'm trying not to get gallies these days because I never get to read them and that's not fair. But it's definitely on my list when it comes out.

message 3169: by D.G. (last edited Jul 12, 2012 11:13AM) (new)

D.G. I'm adding Alif to my wishlist. I'll request from the library once I come back from the Philippines - I forgot to tell you guys that a week after I'm back from vacation, I'm going to the Philippines for business...and the trip will be less than a week so it will be murder.

message 3170: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Crazy!!! So when are your trips? At least you will have down what you want for an international travel. :)

Wendy, that is fair -- I agree. It can be a lot of pressure to get to galleys.

message 3171: by D.G. (last edited Jul 12, 2012 11:21AM) (new)

D.G. We arrive in Lisbon on Aug 8, then we fly to Dublin on the 13th and come back to NY on the 16th.

Then I'll fly to Manila on Aug 25th and come back home on the 30th. I've never taken such a long flight so let's see how I'll handle it!

Too bad my friend who lived in the Philippines doesn't live there anymore.

message 3172: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm so jealous you get to travel D.G. That sounds killer going to the Philippines for that short of time. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Regina, YAY! You're at least back at work and get a little break from the patient. How's your man doing? I still cannot believe he got 6 screws, ouch!

Tomorrow we leave on our Camping trip. We're going to Silver Lake (Close to Tahoe) for the weekend, staying in a cabin, they cook all your meals and have tons of activities for the kids. The boys are so excited. I think I just packed up half the house, lol! Anyway, they don't have wifi or cell service so I'll miss chatting with you lovely ladies.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You'll have to let us know how it goes, D.G. My son just got back from the Philippines and he had a great time.

message 3174: by Leea (last edited Jul 12, 2012 02:04PM) (new)

Leea I finished Rock Chick Renegade (Rock Chick, #4) by Kristen Ashley and I loved Vance. I cannot help myself, I can't stop reading these books. I was trying to read something in between but I feel like i've finally hit my stride with this series and I just have to find out what happens to the rest of the Rock Chicks.

Rock Chick Revenge (Rock Chick, #5) by Kristen Ashley - Luke Stark's story, Can't wait!!

message 3175: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Sounda wonderful Leea, enjoy! You will be missed. Stacia how long was he gone? I bet that was hard on you.

Luis is still suffering. Our dishwasher broke and wont' be fixed until at least Monday. And he is still up all night in pain. I am hoping for some improvement tonight/tomorrow. I had no choice to come in, but it is a relief to be away. I hate saying how tough things still are. This is slow and hard. Going on our 4th week. Hopefully next week we see an upturn.

I just heard about this book, it looks interesting Hyde by Lauren Stewart

message 3176: by Leea (new)

Leea You're such a trooper Regina. I can only imagine how hard this has been for you and your family. I hope you're right, that next week is better. Just know i'm thinking about you and sending you lots of good vibes :)

message 3177: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) THank you. :) I so appreciate it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) He was gone a couple of weeks and this might sound bad but I was happy to have him gone. Summer vacation is too long when your kids are antagonizing each other. He leaves to go see my brother in Cali in another week, so I'm looking forward to that. :p

I'll go look up that book after I'm done typing this.

Sorry to hear about the dishwasher. We had that problem a few months back. The shower nozzle thing got fixed today but we still have to put a new shower dial on it. Don't feel bad about complaining. It's tough taking care of someone in pain.

Leea, I already said it but I'll say it again. Hope you have fun!

message 3179: by Leea (new)

Leea Nothing wrong with that Stacia. I cannot wait for school to start for Ethan in 3 weeks... Also, Thanks :)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments That book looks interesting, Regina. I'm adding that to my list.

Leea, what cabin are you staying at? It sounds heavenly to have food cooked for you and activities provided for the kids. Do you give me the website? that sounds like fun.

I'm not reading anything right now. I'm in a funk and nothing seems to fit my mood.

message 3181: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, here is the website

http://silverlakestocktoncamp.org/

I know it fills up fast and it's best to call.

Kay, you need an erotica to set you straight. lol! That sometimes helps for me. We can always buddy read one of those books you were talking about, except i'll be out this weekend. hmm!

Ha...maybe erotica is what I need. I don't know...these funks are hard for me since it makes me so indecisive.

message 3183: by Leea (new)

Leea I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent, #1) by Barry Lyga was really good, different and It got me out of my funk

Wrapped Around Your Finger by Fallon Blake - Erotica, short. I liked it and so did Stacia. I know Regina thought it was okay.

You could always go back to Virgin River :)

Regina (reginar) Virgin River! I wish I could still go there.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) How is the Argeneau series? I didn't realize that this was the same author who writes historicals.

Just finished Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry and it was decent...entertaining enough with a few small cringe-worthy moments here and there. Nothing to write home about but sort of reminiscent of Perfect Chemistry in vibe..

Starting The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark, #0,5) by Kresley Cole because I want to go back and read the prequel before continuing on with book 3 in the series.

message 3188: by Leea (new)

Leea I never read "The Warlord wants forever" when I started IAD series. You'll have to tell me how it is :)

message 3189: by Samantha (new)

Samantha I just finessed Ravishing the Heiress (Fitzhugh Trilogy, #2) by Sherry Thomas which was my first book by this author and now I'm definitely going to have to read more from her. I love reading Historicals where the romance is a slow build-up *sigh*.

message 3191: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Happy Friday, ladies!

I went to a happy hour last night with some coworkers. I didn't get drunk or anything but I definitely drank more than I should have. :)

Leea - That camping trip sounds awesome! Specially the activities for the kids because you know they'll be entertained. :)

message 3192: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) I just finished Desperate Measures (A Regency Short Story) by Candice Hern
Free in the kindle store, very short but worth the read if you like regency historical and Candace Hern.

DG that sounds heavenly! I am guessing it is lights out right now for Leea! Given that the camp website said there was no generator at night. :) My daughter just debuted in a musical - she had a solo song and I was wowed. I am having a margarita and trying to feel happy as the weekend starts. :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh how nice that must have been to see your child sing a solo. I remember those days. Guess I'll be heading back into them sometime in a few years.

Finished The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark, #0,5) by Kresley Cole and it was okay. Not as much story-wise as the first book but maybe that's because it was a prequel short. I didn't mind though. It met my sex quota for a few days, haha.

message 3195: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That sounds very nice, Regina. Which one of your daughters was that?

How did she like it? Was she very nervous?

Very cool! I also have a musical loving kid, maybe cos I sang her Broadway songs as lullabies. :) Which song was it?

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I was in a reading rut for two days. I just couldn't find anything to fit my mood. Plus, I hate reading a book and then it ends up just being ok. So, I decided to re-read Whitney, My Love (Westmoreland, #2) by Judith McNaught . I haven't been reading that long so I read this in 2010 which made me fall in love w Historical Romance. I'm curious to see how'd I react to the 2 controversial scenes now.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend!

message 3198: by Samantha (last edited Jul 14, 2012 08:44PM) (new)

Samantha I'm on a HR kick and just started Just Like Heaven (Smythe-Smith Quartet, #1) by Julia Quinn .
