Great review for The Opportunist. I loved the book up until the point where(view spoiler) But I did enjoy it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Thanks Kay. Part of me felt sort of blah by the end of it, so I might have gone too high on the rating, but oh well. I think the story arc over the trilogy might put me through the ringer.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments finished Wild by Maya Banks and now reading Brazen (Brazen, #1) by Maya Banks and doing a reread of Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #10) by Laurell K. Hamilton

Regina (reginar) Hey everyone! How was the 4th? Canada Day?

Stuff is still tough here, the reason why I am not posting a lot - -I am working around the clock to make up for missed work and then house stuff b/c my husband can't do it. Monday is his surgery, so I am expecting it to get harder then. Anyway, sorry for a depressing update.

I am starting the audio of Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake which is one of the free audio downloads through audiosync today/this week! I am finishing up the audio of The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart which is good, but I like Ruby Oliver by her better.

I also finished the audio of The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver which I LOVED.

I finished reading an arc of Whispers Under Ground (Peter Grant #3) by Ben Aaronovitch and I also loved it (lol). I skipped the 2nd b/c I didn't want to buy it (I won the first from librarything and got an arc of the third). I love the humor and the world.

I am also trying to knock out another arc Tell The Wolves I'm Home A Novel by Carol Rifka Brunt

message 3055: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Thanks for reminding me about Anna Dressed in Blood, Regina. I'm downloading it right now.

message 3056: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins is also free today! I have been wanting to read it!

message 3057: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Our computer at home died so we had to buy a new one. So I couldn't book our trip yesterday once my husband I decided where what we were doing. Anyhow, when I'm checking everything today...the flights are $120 more expensive than yesterday!!!

I'm so tired of this shit (excuse my French) that I'm tempted to book everything and just the hell with it.

message 3058: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I hope you had your data backed up! That really stinks.

I would book it. If the $240 plus the tax differential isn't going to hurt you and it is more of a psychic injury -- then just book and be done with it. :)

message 3059: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Audible just gave me a $10 gift for a "one year anniversary" even though I have been on hold for most of the year!

message 3060: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm still reading Tatiana and Alexander A Novel by Paullina Simons , this book is such an emotional read. I can only read a little at a time between breaks.

Regina, you're not depressing at all. We're all worried about you and know your going through some hard times. I hope you were able to have some fun yesterday.

For the forth: we just bbq'ed with friends, drank sangria while the kids played and swam. It was a blast! My husband is off the rest of the week so we might take the kids to Half Moon Bay tomorrow to play on the beach. Problem is, Jim has to call in for Jury duty so we'll see. We kept trying to do a few day trips this summer but we've been so busy. School starts here July 30th. Yikes!

D.G. i'm sorry the ticket prices went up, that sucks. Hopefully you'll still be able to go. Sorry about your computer.

message 3061: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Well, believe it or not...I had to go to meeting and when I came out and decided the hell with it...the ticket prices went up $100 more! (per person)

I'm so freaking mad. At this point, I'll wait regardless because we're talking about $500 extra for the both of us. Stupid airlines!

message 3062: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) OMG! That is a huge increase! Does your company have a travel agent you can try to use and get good tickets? Maybe that is an option.

message 3063: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That's not a bad idea...let me find out.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Starting Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews

message 3065: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Gah! What a crazy day. The CEO just fired a guy because she didn't think he was a good fit (which I sort of agree) but I don't know that this was the best time to do it, specially because there's no replacement in sight! We are really busy and his department was in the middle of everything.

message 3066: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Sorry that I've been complaining the whole day.

message 3067: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh poor guy (and you all!), did he get severance?

Nah, somedays are like that. Did you find out about the tickets?

message 3068: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Yes I felt bad because he was really nice. But he definitely should have gotten some severance because he's been here for more than 5 years.

Oh about the tickets...if we move our schedule around, we'll get the price back to $1400 per ticket (yes, that was the 'cheaper' price.) But I need to consult with my husband because we had everything planned already and this would mean some changes (leaving different day, different hotels, bigger layover, etc.)

And still no computer at home! But I'll be taking the laptop home tonight so I'll be able to do what I have to do. I need to take care of this today or it will drive me nuts.

message 3069: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Where are you flying to again?

message 3070: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Surrender (MacKinnon’s Rangers, #1) by Pamela Clare which I loved. It was also somewhat intense so I had to switch to a lighter read. I started and finished Guilty Pleasures (Guilty Series, #1) by Laura Lee Guhrke today. I'm in search of another HR. Does anyone have any recs for an HR with a "plain jane" or "ugly duckling" heroine?

message 3071: by Leea (new)

Leea Have you read?

A Knight in Shining Armor (Montgomery, #16) by Jude Deveraux - this book was great! I remember reading the ending on a flight to Vegas, crying my eyes out with my husband shaking his head. lol!

Highland Destiny (Murray Family, #1) by Hannah Howell - I read these a long time ago but they are light, fun and hot!

I had a hard time finding an 'ugly duckling' so I just suggested book, you haven't read yet. Also, I might have these so just email me.

Good luck :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Husbands are such turds for making fun of us!

Finished Once Burned (Night Prince, #1) by Jeaniene Frost and even though it kind of dragged toward the end, I still liked it better than I was expecting. Let's hope the momentum carries this series the way it didn't for me after book 3 of NH.

message 3073: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "Where are you flying to again?"

We're going to Lisbon and Dublin. :)

I already booked the flight and the first hotel so we're good to go. My husband ended up preferring the new arrangements (starting in Lisbon as opposed to Dublin) because we'll get the hard part of the schedule first and leave the easy part for the end. :)

Now I just need to book the hotel in Dublin. We have a hotel in mind that used to be a Castle. :)

One good thing about these cities is that the hotels are cheaper than other places in Europe. We are staying at a 5-star hotel in Lisbon, centrally located including Internet and Breakfast, and it cost around $135 a night! That's what I paid for the hotel in San Francisco and it didn't include internet or food.

message 3074: by Leea (new)

Leea That's great! You're trip will be fun. I've always wanted to go to Dublin, one day :)

We're off to the Half Moon Bay today, taking the kids to the beach to play.

message 3075: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Regina, are you reading the Q&A with Vic on Facebook? Really awesome stuff! I'm laughing as I read, I love Vic so much. It's making me so excited for the next book!!

message 3076: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am Wendy! I just love the things JCP does for her fans. :)

I may move up my read of GhosTV -- I have been holding out. Did you ever read Mnevermind by Jordan Castillo Price

message 3077: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Not yet, maybe I'll read that one next. I want to read it pretty badly.

message 3078: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I cracked up at the what was the most romantic thing Jacob's done for him, and the hummer comment. It was hilarious.

message 3091: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am halfway through the audio of Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake and the narration is so bad. Almost like it was a dare to figure out how bad the narrator could be and get published.

message 3092: by Leea (new)

Leea Tellulah wrote: "Read Shameless by Lora Leigh Perfect reading for a sunny day out at the park pool."

How do you like this series, Tellulah? It's been on my TBR list for such a long time.

Regina, that sucks about the audio book. I love the cover of that book, how her hair is up in the wind. Are you enjoying the story or is the narrator ruining it for you?

Now that i'm home, I can't wait to like JCP's facebook page :)

That's too bad because the book itself wasn't bad.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I saw Magic Mike last night and now I know what Leea was talking about. Hahha....Matthew Mcconaughey not pretty in hot pants. The acting and plot wasn't that great but I loved Channing without a shirt. LOL

I'm more than halfway through with Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer and it's just ok.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I think that Matthew McConaughey was supposed to be kind of a joke. I thought it was funny. I mean, the hotpants and short tshirt were hilarious, we were cracking up.
