LOL. I have a really hard time reading books when I don't like the girl. It's funny, but I can totally want to castrate the guy, yet I'll keep reading. But if the girl is too annoying, I end up quitting the book.

Kelly ~ happily oblivious | 102 comments I'm still waiting for my library copies (audio and hardcopy) of Dark Lover and Halfway to the Grave. So while I'm waiting I decided to start Passion Fish by Alison Oburia . Ugh. Not even halfway and it seems really long winded. Not really my cup of tea.

Leea Stacia, I love the cover of Wake.

I didn't want anyone to not see Magic Mike because of what I wrote... I feel bad now.

Regina (reginar) It makes me want to swim right now. God it is so hot and humid right now.

I've never really come across this problem before where I loathe the female character. I don't think I can quit this book. I'm too in love with Christian Grey. *swoon*

Oh and I went to see Magic Mike with the ladies from work this afternoon, including my boss...AWKWARD! The movie was bad. However, the eye candy alone makes it worth it...except Kevin Nash. Not sure what the hell he was doing in this movie. There were some awkward moments with the stripping. Channing Tatum did a hell of a job though.

message 3006: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I've never been so annoyed with a female character that it made me want to quit a book -- male characters on the other hand have drove me to dnf.

message 3007: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Looking back on all the books I've read, I've never hated a male character so much that it stopped me from finishing a book. Thank God for that cuz I don't think I could ever shelve a book and not have it drive me nuts. My OCD tendencies can be very inconvenient sometimes. Lol!

message 3008: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I usually dnf books more on plot points than specific characters.

message 3009: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It is a variety of reasons for me, plot, narrator, writing style, grammar mistakes, and/or insufferable men.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I have no idea why but I'm having a vision of Elmer Fudd trying to say insufferable now.

message 3011: by Leea (new)

Leea Defiant (MacKinnon's Rangers, #3) by Pamela Clare is released today... Yay!! I've been waiting so long for this book and I cannot wait to read it. I might buy it tomorrow or later this week because the next few days are just packed with stuff to do.

I'm also about 20% into my reread of Tatiana and Alexander (Tatiana and Alexander, #2) by Paullina Simons how can this book break my heart more the second time I read it. Honestly, it's like me knowing what's going to happen is making this such an emotional read. I'm finding myself crying at strange moments. Plus i'm noticing little hints along the way that I missed the first time around.

message 3012: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha Stacia. :) It was a stuck up thing of me to say. :)

I know Leea -- I was so excited for that book too - although I have too much to read right now, so I am going to wait. I can't wait to read your review and statuses for Defiant.

message 3013: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I need to read that series by Pamela Clare.

This morning I started Ride with Me by Ruthie Knox . Really cute so far.

message 3014: by Leea (new)

Leea Yes, you do!! They are amazing books. That's a nice cover, D.G.

I'm going to wait also to read Defiant but I can't wait to read it :)

Regina you've read her Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare series, right? I read the first book but didn't love it. Is it worth continuing?

message 3015: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I didn't love #1 either, #2 was better but I didn't love it either. DG has read the entire series, so she may know better .... I never read #3. I heard each one gets better and better. I have a hard time with non-military romantic suspense.

I've read all the I-Team books. I actually ended up loving the series. They aren't the best written, but the stories are sweet.

message 3018: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thanks Marcella -- they get better and better, right?

Hahaha! Not sure why I love this comment. Maybe because I just read Gone Too Far and love me some hot SEAL's

How's your husband doing? Are you hanging in there?

message 3020: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments They really do Regina! It was a pleasant surprise.

message 3021: by D.G. (last edited Jul 03, 2012 10:00AM) (new)

D.G. I love the I-Team series but I have a different perspective. As a mystery reader, I'm very picky with the suspense plots in romantic suspense and these are very well done. They satisfy my desire of a good, sexy romance plus a good mystery.

message 3022: by Marcella (new)

You understand me perfectly leea! Surgery is scheduled for Monday. So this week is ... better than the last two weeks, but it will be rough again next week. Although I am looking forward to taking him to the hospital. It sounds horrible, but I will be there alone while he is in surgery for 7-8 hours. Guess what I will be doing? Reading! We are still fighting. It has been hard. We usually are so perfectly matched, but the tensions are hot right now.

DG, I was bored with the mystery in the first two, that was my issue ....

message 3024: by Leea (new)

Leea Thanks Marcella and D.G. I might have to pick them up again.

I'm afraid i'll compare the I-Team books with Clare's exceptional writing in her historical series.

Has anyone read The Darkest Hour (KGI, #1) by Maya Banks Series? I keep seeing them, mainly because I follow her on Twitter and I wonder if this series would be good.

message 3025: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments What about Maya Banks KGI series? Has anyone read it? I haven't but it's been on my list.

Gah...I'm in a reading funk. I've been looking all morning for a book to read :(

message 3026: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I haven't read that series Leea, but the cover alone makes me want to. LOL!

message 3027: by D.G. (new)

D.G. The hero of Ride with Me by Ruthie Knox is Mexican American so it made me think of your husband, Regina.

Hang in there. Things will get better!

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea.... :)

message 3029: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I haven't read that series but I'm not really into Maya Banks. I read one of the books from her Sweet series and it was really below average.

I'm so sorry you're fighting. It's all the stress and he can't help and feels so bad (that's my guess). Not like i'm taking his side. I just know he must feel bad and loves you so much. I hope you get some alone time Monday, sounds like you're been working, taking care of the kids and taking care of your husband. You need a break.

Yeah, sorry. I meant has anyone read it. She write some amazing 'romance scenes' so i'm guessing this one will be hot!

You need a historical romance to set you right... Have you read Surrender (MacKinnon’s Rangers, #1) by Pamela Clare , I have it to share if you need it.

I didn't like her sweet series, I read a few of them, maybe 2 and I just couldn't take it anymore. Well that and I don't like menage that much.

message 3035: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I haven't, but the cover is hot. ;)

I read the first two in this romantic series and enjoyed them: Out Of Her League by Kaylea Cross Cover of Darkness by Kaylea Cross

I also enjoyed Show No Mercy (Black Ops, #1) by Cindy Gerard To the Edge (Bodyguard, #1) by Cindy Gerard

message 3036: by Leea (new)

Leea Maybe i'll try those once i'm done with the Troubleshooter series, which might take us awhile because there are a ton of those books.

message 3037: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Thanks, Leea. Can I borrow it? It sounds really good.

message 3038: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea, I agree. Clare writes the romance in the historical romance books really really well.

And your analysis is right on, you are correct. I need to step outside of myself.

DG, interesting I will look into it! I have Perfect Chemistry in audio lined up (already read it but your review makes me want to listen) so I can't wait to listen to that one.

Thanks everyone. :)

message 3039: by D.G. (last edited Jul 03, 2012 10:39AM) (new)

D.G. All those books look good, Regina. I've been in the mood for romantic suspense but I didn't have many choices. I'll have to check these ones!

message 3040: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I would say they are 3.5 stars each -- nothing mind blowing but decent.

Kaylea Cross's novels are set in Canada which are a nice change of pace. Let me see if mine are lendable.

message 3041: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Out of Her League is lendable, so DG when you are ready let me know.

No, I do the same thing. My husband is my safe place, I can rage at him, speak my mind and tell him the truth and he will never hurt me. My father has been physically abusive towards me in the past. Jim's learned over the years to just ignore me at those times and i'm grateful. No one is perfect and at times of stress is when i'm at my worst. You can only do the best you can.

I guess, I just mean that I would never sit in judgement of you. I hope you know that.

It will get better :)

message 3043: by Leea (new)

Leea Kay wrote: "Thanks, Leea. Can I borrow it? It sounds really good."

On it's way :) Enjoy! I can't wait for you to read it and we can all chat about it. Love these books!

Kelly ~ happily oblivious | 102 comments Leea, great advice.

Regina, I know from experience with my husband that when something happens to him, he tends to find ways to push all my buttons. I'm not sure if he is looking for a way to release some of his stress by bickering with me or what. But stress and our response to it affect us all differently.
Hang in there. Things should start looking better when your husband is in the recovery mode, instead of in limbo.

All those sexy covers are such nice eye candy. It is Navy week here in Boston and I took my son to see a Navy aircraft carrier. So even though my husband is in the Army and I get to see men in uniform all the time, there were some pretty buff looking Marines on that ship. Wow, they'd make great models for book covers!

Leea **Yay** So glad!

We're off to a baseball game to celebrate the 4th of July. Problem is the kids and I spent the day at the pool and I wore then out. Let's hope they make it to see all the fire works.

I haven't read much today. Maybe on the drive to the game :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher and that was an ODD book. Entertaining, but odd. I think I liked the book and hated it at the same time. It's probably sad that I saw a lot of myself in an extremely manipulative character who made a lot of poor life choices.

Starting Once Burned (Night Prince, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

message 3050: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments The cover is really pretty on The Opportunist. Tempts me to check it out.

I'm also starting Cast in Shadow (Chronicles of Elantra, #1) by Michelle Sagara West .
