Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We just got back from the county fair & it was fun but exhausting.

So, I have a question and I'm not sure if I should ask it here but this book I'm reading has got me thinking. It's a sex question...Do you think it's realistic for (view spoiler) I guess I'm asking this bc in real lfe...I don't know any who would & bc they only want a quick lay.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Would I sound like a floozy if I admitted to having been in that situation? I figure it's not my problem though. It was on the guy to take that risk.

No....not a floozy at all. I'm just curious to know if this really happens where a guy would do so after knowing someone for an hour. I guess I've been married too long to know the inner happenings of random hook ups.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I had a few too many random hookups in my early twenties. I had poor judgement skills at the time.

message 2808: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I could also name a few that I had before I married!

Me too. :)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Ok...does that mean it's a common thing that can happen between strangers? You both lucked out on meeting these considerate men ;-)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Common for most people? I'm thinking no. For me and my friends? It happened with a few of us.

I was a complete wild child though...drugs, partying, and doing a bunch of stuff I shouldn't have.

message 2812: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Finished Spell of the Highlander (Highlander, #7) by Karen Marie Moning Cian is hot but he's no Barrons. Trying to find the fictional guy who can usurp his amazingness. A worthy quest.

message 2813: by Leea (new)

Leea What did I miss while out... haha!

Stacia, you're not a floozy.

I finished Aftertime (Aftertime, #1) by Sophie Littlefield and love it. I'm going to read Survivors (Aftertime, #1.5) by Sophie Littlefield but I have to take a break.

I'm going to start Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick, #2) by Kristen Ashley

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Tellulah, I agree with you there. The Highlander books never quite measured up to the Fever series.

Finished Miss Wonderful by Loretta Chase and it was boring. Nothing happened. :(

Back to Blood Bound (Unbound, #1) by Rachel Vincent

message 2815: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Stacia ~ mistress of mediocrity wrote: "Would I sound like a floozy if I admitted to having been in that situation?"

I was going to answer "yes, it's realistic but it probably doesn't happen very often" when I remembered...I was in that situation too!

My only regret is that I didn't enjoy it as I should have - it may have been the first time that was done to me and I was self conscious about it. The sad thing is that I've had several boyfriends before that...isn't it a shame that a random hookup was more considerate than men who supposedly loved me? I still remember how hard the guy worked at it.

I wished I had a second chance with that guy.

message 2816: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I know the feeling DG. I thin I turned it down more often than I wished it had been done if that makes sense.

I agree, they do not measure up with Fever. But oh boy did I love Dark Highlander and Immortal Highlander. Curse was good, but I liked those other two better.

message 2818: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina - Where is it you recommend we start with that series? I need some romance in audio and I may want to try that one.

Regina (reginar) D.G. ~Captain Hussy~ wrote: "Regina - Where is it you recommend we start with that series? I need some romance in audio and I may want to try that one."

DG my favorites begin with and continues with The Dark Highlander (Highlander, #5) by Karen Marie Moning The Immortal Highlander (Highlander, #6) by Karen Marie Moning Spell of the Highlander (Highlander, #7) by Karen Marie Moning (##5, 6 and 7)

But, the storyline begins with Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning (which is #4) Kiss is good, solid romance but just not as good as 5, 6 and 7. I actually read 7 first and then 5, but I was confused at some parts. The thing you need to remember is that she uses the virgin trope and tiny blonde petite but voluptuous storyline. Oh and the history may not be accurate. It is more like PNR/time travel with a historical component. Fae, druids, and time travel mixed in with good sex scenes. I would say these books (aside form Outlander and Troubleshooters) were my first romance novels ever. :D Thought the good thing is that there is never a TSTL heroine. The audio is really enjoyable. I have Spell (#7) in my audible account, but not the others or I would offer to share. But are they cheesy -- a little. *grin* -- do I relisten to 5, 6 and 7 -- yeah.

I say skip 1-3 entirely.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished Blood Bound (Unbound, #1) by Rachel Vincent and it was pretty good. Not a favorite (yet) but decent enough for a first book.

Starting Temptation by Karen Ann Hopkins

message 2822: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Giving It Up by Amber Lin and now, I'm reading A Night Like This (Smythe-Smith Quartet, #2) by Julia Quinn ....HR is just what I need right now.

How is Temptation so far? I haven't read anything Amish before. Sounds interesting.

**GR and their wrong book covers again!**

Courtney | 337 comments I finished Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine . A pretty good book! Don't know if I'll continue the series though.

message 2825: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jun 24, 2012 11:40PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Kay, I haven't started it yet. I probably will in a few minutes.

My mom used to read Amish romances and I read a few of hers. It's very interesting to see into that world and to see how different it is from what we know. If the young people decide to leave the community, it's possible they can be shunned by their family, depending on the situation. I'm curious to see how this book handles the issue of the English girl and the Amish boy coming together. I'm not knocking Amish because they are hard working and loving people who put God and family first (which is admirable)...but the world is drastically different from the mainstream world, so it's interesting to read about, since I am someone who doesn't know that much about their way of life.

message 2826: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I've watched a few reality shows and documentaries about the Amish and it's fascinating to me. It is true how their world is so different. I look forward to your review.

message 2827: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jun 24, 2012 11:41PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) They have that series on one of the channels (Discovery maybe) about people who have left the Amish lifestyle and are trying to make it outside in our world. It appears to be hard for some of them because it seems like not everyone has diplomas or the necessary paperwork that's required to get jobs.

message 2828: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I think that's the one I watched awhile back. the one I watched had these houses set up for these people who leave the life. They show their struggles and also the partying and drinking that some get caught up in too.

message 2829: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments I've read Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale , which I liked a lot, especially the hero and the different setting and theme.

And for my fantasy fix The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss , which I LOVED. Reminded me why I fell in love with fantasy in the first place.

message 2830: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I was so excited that stacia had returned to mercy. :)

I had watched a documentary abou the Amish that showed when they are a certain age - 17 I think - they are allowed one year to do anything. They often travel party and drug addiction is a problem. But in the end they always return. Let me try to remember the name.

My library used to have them all in audio but it seems they don't have them anymore. Drat! Anyhow, I put #4 on my Audible WL and maybe there's a sale soon where I can get it on the cheap.

message 2833: by D.G. (new)

D.G. BTW...I'm midway through Fair Game and it's a damn good book. It's really brought to the front how freaking scary that supernatural world is.

There's also a doc about that called Devil's Playground which is really good.

Regina (reginar) Yes -- that is the one I saw. I think I watched in like 2003 or 4?

Fair Game is good -- I LOVE how she writes her supes -- scary, including her heroes. I can't wait until you get to the end.

message 2836: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I like how she writes her supes too. Most writers just emphasize the good but rarely mention the struggles. I loved the stat that the average life expectancy of Changed wolves is 8 years!

I really want to read Flowers from the storm, it's been on my reader for so long.

message 2838: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I know! I love that there is a cost to power. It is the same in Dresden Files (after the first 2 books). Nothing comes for free.

That's good. I still need to read Alpha and Omega 2, it just wasn't grabbing me so I put it aside.

message 2840: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm reading Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick, #2) by Kristen Ashley and this book is driving me nuts. I posted a cringe worthy term in that thread but now the author has used it 4 more times.

The character is saying her Doo-da clenched. WTF? Hahaha! I laughed at that term the first 2 times and then when she used it a few more, it got old and now i'm pissed.

message 2841: by D.G. (new)

D.G. The words 'doo-da' and 'clenched' don't go together.

I finished reading Cynful (Halle Shifters, #2) by Dana Marie Bell , which I absolutely loved. I am still reading A Token of Time by Ethan Day , which I am also loving. I just love Ethan Day!!!

Leea...prepare yourself, because Jet uses doo-da a hell of a lot in the book. It didn't bother me. I thought it was funny.

message 2844: by Tellulah (new)

It's really good Leea. The heroine is a Quaker, so the speech is somewhat difficult to get used to, with Thous and Thys and Dousts... But it's very different and has depth. Feels like it's not just about two people falling on love, but the love is beautiful. The hero reminds me of Ian McKenzie in some ways. Could be just me.

message 2847: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I agree...Flowers from the Storm is really good and unique. I've yet to read other books from the author though but I do want to.

The year of freedom is called Rumspringa. Not all ordnungs allow it but many of the more modern ones do.

So far the book is actually showing a pretty good take on life inside of the community.

Sorry about the Mercy hopes there. I've read up through book 3 anyway, so if I was going to read on, it would be book 4. Maybe I'll get there. :)

I did read book 3. To me it is better than Jet's book but I found the female character the most annoying of the 3 so far. On the plus side, it is Hank's book, and I love me some Hank Nightingale!!!

From what I have been told by someone who has read the series is that all the female characters are effing annoying. That is the only downside to the series. But I am willing to stick it out. I want to read a book on Mace and Vance. I just have to.
