Most likely because I don't remember following any thread in at least a year!

D.G. Yesterday I started Mistress of Rome (Rome, #1) by Kate Quinn which was going really well but it was in print so when I needed to read something at night, I was too lazy to turn on the lights, LOL! Anyhow, then I started The Sleeping Night by Barbara Samuel on my iPad which is very powerful so far but I don't know if it will have a HEA (interracial couple in Texas after WWII) and the author is really telling it like it was. No whitewashing the whole segregation business.

message 2353: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments DG, I hope you enjoy Mistress of Rome. I loved that book!!

I finished reading Easy by Tammara Webber this morning. It was really good and actually a lot deeper/darker than I thought it would be.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Kay, I agree. It was a good read. Not completely what I was expecting, although I knew I would like it because I like Webber's style of writing.

Just read Wool by Hugh Howey and wow, that was crazy for being such a short little read! I am going to have to get to Wool 2 sooner rather than later. I'd recommend for any fan of technological sci-fi or dystopia. Thanks Regina for the rec. :)

message 2355: by Leea (last edited Jun 10, 2012 06:56PM) (new)

Leea D.G. I hope you like Mistress of Rome, I loved that book.

I need to start a list of the books I really want to read, Easy is one of them. I'm so easily distracted lately.

I got Wool and the others in the series when they were free from Kindle. I can't wait to read them, good to know they're short reads.

Okay, I finished up The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis I have some mixed feelings about this book but in the end I liked it. I was not a light read by any means. ha!

I read Noah (5th Street, #1) by Elizabeth Reyes and it was very well done. Not sure why I thought it was an erotica, it's not. lol!!

message 2356: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) I'm almost done with North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell (if only this salesman would get out the office, I could sneak it out!)
Will be moving on to Les Misérables by Victor Hugo afterwards.

Hayley, I'm slowly reading this book. Taking my time and savoring it. I just love the characters. Especially John. My type of hero. Have you seen the BBC miniseries? I think they do a really good job of making it into a movie.

message 2358: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Mr. Thornton! **sigh**

I just finished it - god it's gorgeous!! Yup, have heard of and already watched the mini-series, I saw it when it was first being shown on TV and then afterwards I went 'Oooh, it's a book too!'. Am now waiting for a replacement to my lost N&S DVD to arrive in the post :S

Agree with both you and D.G - Mr Thornton is divine!!

message 2360: by Leea (new)

Leea I never read the book, but the BBC miniseries of North and South was really good. Enjoy!

I started what I thought was a short read but ended up being longer than 78 pages listed on GR... Rocky Mountain Heat (6 Pack Ranch, #1) by Vivian Arend . It's smokin' hot!

message 2361: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Stacia's got me reading Wool by Hugh Howey . Very short. Flying by, but so good already! I'm reading that while I work (cheating!) and reading Tricked (Iron Druid Chronicles, #4) by Kevin Hearne on my breaks and lunches.

message 2362: by Leea (new)

Leea Ohhh might have to pick up Wool now!

message 2363: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) You should Leea, it's really quick, but very deep and intersting. I'm really enjoying it.

I'm not really a 2 book at a time reader, lol. But it's easy to read a book on my kindle at work, so I figured I'm gonna give it a shot. it's not so bad.

message 2364: by Leea (new)

Leea Grrr... GR keeps deleting my comments.

Basically, i'm scrumming to peer presser and starting Wool. lol!

message 2365: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL! I just finished it. Off to review!

message 2366: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I have to read Wool by Hugh Howey too then! I'll start after work.

message 2367: by Leea (new)

Leea Okay, i'll start it after swim lessons. lol! Or during, I someone doesn't revoke my mom card. haha!

message 2368: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Just finished Kindling the Moon (Arcadia Bell, #1) by Jenn Bennett . It was ok. Don't know if I'll continue the series...

Will start Something About You (FBI / US Attorney, # 1) by Julie James !

message 2369: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'ts a book you'll finish in a half hour, but still so good. I was impressed.

message 2370: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jun 11, 2012 03:48PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Yay to all of the Wool readers. I was really impressed too.

Finished The Vincent Brothers (The Vincent Boys, #2) by Abbi Glines and I liked it better than the first book but there were still a few hiccups.

Started Last Will by Bryn Greenwood and might skim re-read Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour #1) by Olivia Cunning for a buddy read.

Regina (reginar) Wendy F wrote: "I'ts a book you'll finish in a half hour, but still so good. I was impressed."

They each get better. You need to keep going!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh, so you moved on?

Argh...I have scheduled reads I need to be working on plus a buddy read I should have finished already. I so want to move on!!!

message 2373: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I will probably read the second one at work tomorrow. I really want to move on.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm thinking this weekend I'll read 2 and 3. I have to figure out what I'm going to do about 4 and 5. It seems like I should have just purchased the omnibus.

message 2375: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yes. I have read through 4 and started 5. :) 4 was my favorite. It is amazing.

message 2376: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I already had 1-3, so I'm going to have to get myself 4 and 5. I guess there's a prequel too... First Shift - Legacy (Part 6 of the Silo Series) by Hugh Howey . It's supposed to be about the creation of the silo, from what I gathered.

message 2377: by Regina (last edited Jun 11, 2012 04:12PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I knew he just released 6 but I never read the blurb so I didn't realize it was a prequel!! Cool!! On his blog the author shows progress through wool 9 I think. And the movie rights have been bought!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oooh nice. This could potentially be a good movie, although I could almost see it being depressing with elevator type of music and a very gray style of cinematography.

message 2379: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) This would potentially great movie, if it's done right.

message 2380: by Regina (new)

How's Last Will so far? I'm starting that tonight.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm only a couple of chapters in. I can't really get a feel for the book yet.

message 2383: by Leea (new)

Leea I've wanted to read the Moreno Brother series for awhile and I follow the author on Twitter. Looks the the first book is on sale, .99 on amazon right now...

I can't wait to hear what you think of Causing Havoc. I've had that on my TBR list for such a long time.

I'm reading Last Will by Bryn Greenwood

I finished Wool by Hugh Howey and what a gem, so much in such a little package. I can't wait to read the next book, to see what happens.

Kelly gave you some good suggestions in the thread below. Balogh is a favorite of mine so I'm prejudiced but Slightly Married and Slightly Dangerous are in my top ten all time list, 2 of 3 romances to be make the cut. The other is Silver Lining by Maggie Osborne.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Wool by Hugh Howey was good! I really liked it. Will the next few books let us know what happened to Holston?

message 2390: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm reading 2 right now...

message 2391: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yup! :)

message 2392: by D.G. (last edited Jun 12, 2012 09:02AM) (new)

D.G. I finished Unleashed (Ross Siblings, #1) by Cherrie Lynn which I thought was erotica but it was really a spicy contemporary romance. The hero was cool but the heroine got on my nerves. Not sure that I'll continue the series.

I'm also still reading Mistress of Rome (Rome, #1) by Kate Quinn , which I'm enjoying (I'll wait to finish The Sleeping Night by Barbara Samuel when I'm done with Mistress.) I'm also listening to Tales from the Arabian Nights Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Other Stories by Andrew Lang , narrated by Toby Stephens. I'm having TONS of fun imagining him narrating the book (I've had the hots for him ever since he played Rochester.)

message 2393: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That is a lot of books DG! :)

I am more than halfway through Dawn on a Distant Shore (Wilderness, #2) by Sara Donati and it is so good. I am so glad I pushed through again the first 20% and the narration is fantastic. Which suprirses me because I did not like this narrator (Kate Reading) for The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham - in fact I switched the narrated versions to get a new narrator for that book. I am going crazy at the part I am at right now (view spoiler) I think this part is written so well!

message 2394: by Leea (new)

Leea I know, that was so scary. I loved that they were going to Scotland. What do you think of Nathaniel? People said they didn't like him because he used the word 'ain't' and they thought he was unintelligent.

I'm so glad you're enjoying the narration.

I just got an email notification from GR with books coming out by my favorite authors - that's so great! Finally they're catching on :) I'm still not getting some notifications but hey at least it's progress. lol!

message 2395: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea, I remember that thread for a year or so ago? If it is the same one I was thinking of. I disagreed then and it is funny you bring that up, b/c I was just thinking about it. I am also right now reading a book about analyzing class issues and classism in the US Reading Classes On Culture and Classism in America by Barbara Jensen and I think I remembered that comment b/c it was sort of a topic in the book I am reading. I think people have value independent of their education, schooling or amount they read. And Nathanial demonstrates his value over and over again! :D

That is cool, which books?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Starting The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead tonight.

message 2397: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "I think people have value independent of their education, schooling or amount they read."

Definitely. On my father's side of the family most of the men have some education (my father was the first to get a college degree) while his sisters are almost illiterate. But that doesn't mean that they are not as smart or don't have good opinions or thoughts. Just that in their time, education wasn't valued for women.

message 2398: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Stacia ~ the professional insomniac wrote: "Starting The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead tonight."

Fun! I didn't know it was out yet. Reason to read #1, now that #2 is out.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Sydney is drastically different from Rose and I think some people didn't like that but I appreciate how she's using her brains instead of her brawn to be an asset.

message 2400: by Regina (last edited Jun 12, 2012 03:29PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I like that too. I didn't dislike Sydney. But I loved the Dimitri/Rose dynamic.
