Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I just looked at Regina's review and it looked like she was more displeased with the narrator than the story itself?

Well, I don't know, I loved the boys. A toss up between Mark and Smite. I adored the fact that they and the books are so different.

Leea, you should try them. They're good :D

Regina (reginar) Stacia ~ the professional insomniac wrote: "I really liked the book so I guess I'm in the minority, although I do think that book 2 was stronger overall than book 1."

I never ever connected with it, the narrator was really really bad. I forgot about that. :)

message 2054: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I've had Courtney Milan on my list for awhile. I may have to pick up her Turner series soon.

I finished Almost by Anne Eliot and it was pretty good. Now, I'm reading Courting Miss Hattie by Pamela Morsi which is a HR and I'm really liking it.

Yes to the joys of a slow simmering sexual awareness. :)

*Cough* buddy read *cough* lol! I have to first book already and I can share.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments LOL @ Leea! Anytime, girl...You know I'm down! I have it also on my Nook. We still have to read Empress of the Seven Hills (Rome, #3) by Kate Quinn . Is Friday still good?

message 2058: by Leea (new)

Leea Yes, Friday is perfect. I can't wait for that book. I hope Quinn redeems herself from Daughters of Rome.

How was your everyones weekend?

message 2059: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Yes, I hope she redeems herself. Daughters missed the spark that Mistress had.

I had a busy weekend w friends, kids and a bday party. How was yours and everyone's too?

message 2060: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 29, 2012 01:51PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I had planned on reading Turner at some point because a friend had recommended it to me but I can't for at least a week, so I'll just have to check out what you guys said about it. I have stuff scheduled up through next Tuesday that I can't push off now.

The Siren by Tiffany Reisz was...different. I have it at 3.5 rounding up to a 4 but I might drop it to a 3 after some thought. I was not thrilled with the last part of the book.

message 2061: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Stacia, can still read Redhead #2 tomorrow?

Siren was different for me too. I did enjoy it but can't say that I was blown away by it. (view spoiler) I don't know if she put that in there to surprise people. That all just didn't sit well with me. Also, I didn't feel happy when I finished the book and I rated it 3 stars.

message 2062: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 29, 2012 02:45PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) The more I'm thinking about it, the more I think I'm going to drop it to a 3. The book was well-written but some of the decisions that were made didn't sit well with me.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh and I'm still able to do redhead 2 tomorrow. I probably won't start until the afternoon because I'm finishing up a group read but once I start, I'll probably breeze through because I promised Crystal we'd start Gentleman Bastard on Thursday.

And no, I don't want to cancel. Redhead will be a fast and fun book, which is perfect before I start GB.

Regina, I'm guessing you're probably unable to do it but you'd said to let you know when we'd decided on Gentleman Bastard in case you were interested.

message 2064: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Ok, cool. We'll start Redhead 2 tomorrow.

I'm interested to hear Leea's opinion of Siren when she's done. People seem to really love it...it may be b/c it is different from other books of the topic.

message 2065: by Leea (new)

Leea I can't start the Turner book till next week anyway. Let me know if that works for you Kay?

The Siren - I'm struggling to finish and it's a 3 star book right now for me. I honestly think it's just a load of crap (Sorry, my filter i broken toda) using those taboo subjects in order to make it this dark read. If Nora had been more likable, maybe I could have connected with her but I can't. She's so damaged.

I really just want to finish this book and review it. What sucks is I have to post my review on Netgalley and it's going to be negative. Ugh!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I actually didn't mind Nora as much because some of her attitude reminded me of my early 20's. I would have been the same way with Wesley. Although, at age 33, she should be starting to grow up by now...

Zach's story was long and drawn out. Soren drove me batty.

I can't say more because you're not done yet.

message 2067: by Leea (new)

Leea Dang it. I meant to read the first redhead book. Oh, well. I can't wait to hear what you think of the second book.

message 2068: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments leea, I may be able to read Turner with you next week. Can I let you know Monday?

I won't say anything more about Siren until you're done. Try push through and finish it.

I really liked the first Redhead book. Hopefully, you can get to it eventually.

message 2069: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Stacia thanks for letting me know. I would be doing audio, I may or may not be ready on Thursday.

I am listening to the audio of The Painted Veil and it is fantastic. I am routinely surprised by books published in the early parts in the 20th century. The book is about a woman who despises her husband but is caught having an affair with an older married man. Her husband then threatens her to either get divorced or accompany him (he is a doctor, they are in China) to a cholera outbreak where she must assist him. It is really intense, I have no idea where it is going or how it will end.

Kay are you saying the secret was (view spoiler)

message 2070: by Leea (new)

Leea Kay wrote: "leea, I may be able to read Turner with you next week. Can I let you know Monday? "

of course. Yes, I only have about 10% left...

I really liked the movie version of The Painted Veil. I never did read the book.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Regina's spoiler made me laugh because it wasn't horribly far off but not in the exact way she put.

message 2072: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Ah, so he is the 15 year old boy then? LOL.

I haven't seen the movie Leea, but I think I will want to after I finish the book. I am guessing it doesn't end well.

message 2073: by Kay (last edited May 29, 2012 03:19PM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina...this spoiler may ruin the book for you if you decide to read it(view spoiler) Hahah...and Stacia is right, your spoiler was off! LOL

message 2074: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I think the author may have been drunk, lol, and tried to figure out what was the most far out angsty/taboo things ever! I do like taboo, but haha that is, wow. Having been raised catholic and gone to catholic school and still being catholic, I gotta say - -I have never met a hot priest. I was friends with a young man when I lived in Italy who was studying at the Vatican (he was not yet a priest yet, I don't think he took his vows yet) -- he was from my hometown and there on a special study thingee. Anyway, he would share with me how hard it was (eek) to be celibate. He is still a priest and a very good one from what I hear. But I always thought that was inteersting. I also knew a priest at my high school who "ran away" with his secretary. But even these guys who acknowledged temptation were not swoon worthy. I guess not that this matters if we are talking about merely exploring the concept of taboos.

I wasn't planning on reading it, only b/c I didn't have time, I have too many books to get to. Thanks for sharing. I definitely won't be reading now. My blogging team member loved and and the other one dnfed it. Sounds like a book that is striking different people in different ways.

message 2075: by Leea (new)

Leea LMAO!! Not sure why that spoiler, Regina was so funny! Might be because The Siren is just a mass amount of messed up people.

message 2076: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha, it is funny that is where my mind went right away.

message 2077: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Regina - You were so right about the sex scene Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon ! It definitely was steamy.

I'm now liking the book but the heroine still bothers me. The author does a great job of making you dislike her.

message 2078: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished The Siren and it was just okay, I honestly didn't like it very much and felt that controversial parts were put in more to shock the reader. This book was compared to My Fair Lady and I honestly didn't see that at all.

Next i'm going to start Out of Control tomorrow with Wendy. I can't wait, I need something light and sexy after The Siren.

message 2079: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I hope you ladies enjoy it. Out of Control starts with a sexy bang. And includes my favorite couples.

message 2080: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Leea! I feel so bad! If you want you can go ahead and start it.

message 2081: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Finished Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . Better than I thought it would be from the onset. I loved the sex scenes and some of the interaction between the hero and the heroine, which were so sweet. The only thing that annoyed me was how helpless the heroine was and there were (view spoiler) It got tiring after a while. Also, the part where the author narrated his past through (view spoiler).

Now I'm reading Cold Magic (The Spiritwalker Trilogy #1) by Kate Elliott ! I loved Kate Elliott's Jaran (Jaran, #1) by Kate Elliott so I'm testing out another book by her.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oooh Cold Magic. I've been waiting for someone to read that and tell me how it is. It's one I've been interested in for a while. I think it's a very loose steampunk.

Finished Hammered (Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne and it was fun as always, how could it not be when the book starts out with a confrontation with a giant squirrel? On to my buddy read with Kay The Redhead Revealed (Redhead, #2) by Alice Clayton

The convenient discovery of the box where there were (view spoiler) was very unrealistic and a sort of lazy way to tell the story. That was a great story to tell too, it should have been told better. But the sex scenes were great.

message 2084: by Courtney (last edited May 30, 2012 01:49PM) (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Regina - I agree...why were there (view spoiler)

Stacia - Well great then! I'll be sure to tell you my thoughts on this one!

message 2085: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL. I know, that was never explained. :) Especially since they were only snippets of those very painful moments that made everyone else look bad.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I think some of it might have been touched on again in book 2 but I really don't remember either. It's been so long.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) And btw...the old cover is so bad. It looks like a retro sex ed picture where they're explaining the fertilization of a woman's egg.

message 2088: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, Atticus is always a lot of fun. I was sad about (view spoiler).

message 2089: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That is interesting Stacia, my library has the audio (and the narrator is different), I may give it a try then.

I think so too.

message 2091: by Leea (new)

Wait... You can't start it now? I already read the first few chapters.

message 2092: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished my buddy read w/Stacia The Redhead Revealed (Redhead, #2) by Alice Clayton . I liked it and it was fun. I enjoyed the first book a bit more.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Same here. I think this one was still a cute and sexy read but I wanted the story to expand more than it did. Some of the antics were still cute but felt recycled.

Onward to The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch

message 2094: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 31, 2012 01:27PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) But I did have to post this from the book for Wendy :

You should have seen me the first time I saw New Kids when I was in high school. My friends and I followed their bus halfway across town before we realized we were actually following a group of senior citizens on their way to Branson.

message 2095: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments That's a good one, Stacia. Here's another for Wendy:

"Wait, we have to take pictures!" Nick cried.

At his insistence, we found ourselves lined up on the stairs like the New Kids in their Step by Step video.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I laughed at that part. Especially because she kept referring to the entire experience (going to a movie premier) as similar to prom. Right after, she said something about the only difference being that there wasn't a Vanilla Ice song playing in the background.

message 2097: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Hahha!! Yeah, throwing Vanilla Ice in there had me LOL!

message 2098: by Leea (new)

Leea Kay, we still on to start Empress of the Seven Hills (Rome, #3) by Kate Quinn tomorrow?

message 2099: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments yes! I might start tonight, if that's okay with you.

message 2100: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, I can start tonight. Wendy and I are pushing our buddy read till Sunday/Monday.
