Regina (reginar) Haha, maybe it will come up later. :)

Regina - I really liked your 'Camp Luis' trick. Their faces were probably priceless. :)"

I loved that one too. I even told my husband and he got a good chuckle. Unfortunately, my son would absolutely love Camp Dad or Camp Mom over his summer camps. As they say, it's always greener on the other side.

As a reboot to try to get over my reading rut, I started A Rogue By Any Other Name (The Rules of Scoundrels, #1) by Sarah MacLean . Seems promising so far but I'm not that far yet.

Oh I know!! When you get back you just want to take off again! We haven't been on vacation in like three years, just weekends here and there, so I feel you!

Hey Leea! My mom is hanging in there still going through chemo. Thanks for your kind words!!

What Lisa Kleypas series are you girls talking about? I've been meaning to read her contemporaries.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I think they were talking about the Friday Harbor series.

Finished Cat Scratch Fever by Jodi Redford and it was a sexy and fun little fluff short.

Starting Easy by Tammara Webber . I'm curious to see how this will differ from her Between the Lines series, since this one is about college age characters.

Personally, I LOVE Lisa Kleypas' Travis series... Friday Harbor's okay, but much more average, at least for me.

message 2006: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So you felt Rainshadow Road continued to be just average or was it better than the first?

message 2007: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Laura, I am sorry I missed some posts -- my thoughts are with you.

Stacia, easy looks so good. How is it so far?

message 2009: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm almost done with Ashfall (Ashfall, #1) by Mike Mullin and I've been loving it. Thanks so much for the rec, Regina!

Laura - How many more treatments does your Mom have left? My cousin did only 4 and she said they were the most difficult thing she's ever had to go through.

message 2010: by Leea (new)

Leea Fingers crossed, looks like my MIL wants to watch the boys while the hubby and I go to half moon bay (we never canceled our hotel room). We haven't spent a night away from the kids in over 2 years.

Still don't know what to read next...

Ethan graduation was so cute! He's a first grader now.

message 2011: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yay DG! I loved it, I am glad you are too. The author is a sweetie too, I like to read his tweets.

I also like the subtle political commentary toward the end of the book.

message 2012: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) My husband and I are going out tonight too Leea, but for our anniversary. Enjoy your night away. I bet it will be fun. We are going out for sushi (our standard night out) and then to a wine and cheese bar. I am tirred now though. I was excited yesterday, but now I feel like sleeping.

message 2013: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I just have less than 50 pages to go but everything seems very realistic. Something like that will bring out the best and worst of people.

Alex & Darla remind me a bit of my husband & I. If something like that were to happen, I'm sure I'll be the practical one and my husband would be the more compassionate.

message 2014: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Darla is very practical, she is amazingly resourceful but not overly so. I may re-read it before I read Ashen Winter. That is interesting that you see your husband and you in them, Alex is a sweetie. He also matures a lot since he left his home. I wonder about his neighbors, if they are okay.

message 2015: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Happy Anniversary, Regina!! I hope you have fun tonight!

Laura...I'm sorry :( Cancer is a b*tch! Sending you & your mom well wishes

Leea, have a good time at Half Moon Bay. I just hope the weather gets better for you.

I'm in a reading funk too. I've been looking for a good book since yesterday. I still haven't found anything for my mood.

message 2016: by D.G. (last edited May 25, 2012 01:37PM) (new)

D.G. Not that we have any of those skills, LOL! Well, at least I don't have any. My husband could probably survive because he's read a lot so he knows all sorts of things and he's very strong. I would have nothing to contribute except ruthlessness. I'm the type that would kill their dog for meat. :)

Oh yes, Alex is so sweet. I'm at the part where the uncle gives him the goodies. :) I really liked how the whole sex thing has been addressed in this book. I mean, I always wonder in most YA books where you see teenagers in terrible danger and they never think of doing it. If I were a virgin, walking around with a person I liked/loved and I could die at any minute, you could bet your life that I would drop my trousers the first opportunity I got.

message 2017: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha, me too! It is only natural. And then add in the stress and intense feelings. The scene (view spoiler)

message 2018: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That was terrible. :( The business with Katie made me cry too. :(

message 2019: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh yes, I forgot about that. I agree. :( The spacing of the farms is something that I never thought about being bleak, scary or isolating b/c my parents house is like that -- outside of town and farms are around it. I could imagine it exactly. It could be safe in a situation like this, but also dangerous. He really captured it well.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Happy Anniversary Regina and have fun Leea. :)

We have a voucher to go eat at a creekside restaurant but auntie Pepsi is taking her sweet time to pick up the little one.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) She just pulled up now. I dozed off for a few!

message 2024: by Leea (new)

Leea Yay! Enjoy your time alone :)

I really need to find something to read before we leave in the morning. haha!

message 2025: by Jocelin (new)

Jocelin | 85 comments I just started reading The Pioneer Woman Black Heels to Tractor Wheels by Ree Drummond .

message 2026: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I love that cover Jocelin.

The Way of Kings looks interesting. I am reading three books right now, per my usual they are all over the place in terms of genre:

audio:

The Snow Child

reading: Gone Girl Shady Lady

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn Shady Lady (Corine Solomon, #3) by Ann Aguirre

I finished Wolf Tracker, and I enjoyed it for a pnr based book. 3 stars.

message 2027: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments D.G. I finished Pandemonium (Delirium, #2) by Lauren Oliver and i have to say that I ended up really enjoying it . It didn't grab me like Delirium did but overall I liked it. Don't get me wrong, I had issues with the book. I thought it could have been done much better.

message 2028: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 26, 2012 02:12PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Hope everyone's having a good weekend! It's windy but warm here so we're going to go out and do something while getting blown around...

Finished Easy by Tammara Webber and ended up liking it a lot more than I'd expected to. I'd recommend it for fans of strong love stories but might steer people away who don't like drama in their books. It was a sweet little read though and sexy in parts too. :)

A friend asked me to join in on a buddy read of The Siren by Tiffany Reisz so I switched my reading order and am starting that instead.

Julie (gpangel) Reading Treasure of the Sun by Christina Dodd

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) How is Christina Dodd?

message 2031: by Leea (new)

Leea I liked her PNR books, but I read them a few years ago. Never read any of her HR books. I'd be interested to know what you think, Julie?

message 2032: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I'm having a good weekend Stacia. I'm getting things ready for a family bbq tomorrow.

Happy Memeorial Day everyone! Hope you all have a great relaxing weekend!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I hope to be lounging tomorrow and having some drinks while the men grill their hearts out.

I hope the weather's not too windy because maybe we'll get out the kiddy pool for the younger ones.

message 2034: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) I just started this one. I believe this may be the only western historical she wrote. I don't normally read a lot of western type books, but I love Christina Dodd. Her PNR books and all the others too. So far this one's pretty good. It's an older book, so we'll see how it pans out. I'll keep you posted.

message 2035: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh, it's western. I like those now and again. Thanks for keeping me posted :)

We're headed to my moms house, I hope they'll have drinks because i'm going to need some. My husband is working tomorrow so it will be me driving the kids to Sac and back. It's been colder here, maybe 70's and windy. I'm enjoying it before the heat comes.

message 2036: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments It's been a busy weekend for me. So, I barely had much time to read. I started Almost by Anne Eliot and I'm into it so far. I should be done with it tonight.

I'm interested to hear what you all think about The Siren. I thought it was okay (and it might just be me) but others seem to have rated it really high.

Hey Regina, Just finished The Secret History by Donna Tartt and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion. I was a bit startled though by how similar it was to The Likeness (or other way?). And I think in the end, I do like Tana French's take on this type of story better. :)

message 2038: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) The Secret History is one of my all time favs!

message 2039: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh I am glad you enjoyed it!! It wasn't as dark in The Likeness was it? And it ended more hopeful, I think. I liked The Secret History better I think, because of the darkness, but I liked the friendship and idealism in The Likeness better. I wonder if French was influenced by The Secret History?

Donna Tartt has another book that I want to read The Little Friend and I cannot wait for Tana French's Broken Harbour which will be released on July. Do you know of any other authors that write like this? Profound character development? Very dark storyline? Psychological thriller? I know of one other, her storiers are not as rich, but they are wonderfully distrubing. :) Gillian Flynn. I have only read Sharp Objects and I am reading Gone Girl right now. She also has Dark Places, which I own but haven't read yet.

I have heard people suggest Laura Lippman as similar, but I haven't read her. If you have anything you have read in a similar veing Tellulah, I would love to know about it! :D

I wish I did. The only book I can think of isNo Time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay. Have you read that one yet? But I'll keep thinking on it.

message 2042: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) Regina I will have to think on it some. The Secret History is one of a kind I think. I read The Little Friend and it was disappointing to me. Kind of anti- climatic after reading The Secret History, but if you like Southern Gothic type books ( which I normally do) you will want to give it a try.

message 2043: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thanks Julie. I do like that genre.

message 2044: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments I've read(and loved) The Turner series by Courtney Milan.Finding anything new and different in HR is difficult, but the stories really stand out...

Unveiled (Turner, #1) by Courtney Milan Unclaimed (Turner, #2) by Courtney Milan Unraveled (Turner, #3) by Courtney Milan the main books and
Unlocked (Turner, #1.5) by Courtney Milan - a novella that was cool, but as usually with novellas-too short. Would've liked a full book.

Kelly ~ happily oblivious | 102 comments Mimi wrote: "I've read(and loved) The Turner series by Courtney Milan.Finding anything new and different in HR is difficult, but the stories really stand out..."

Mimi, I really enjoyed Courtney Milan's stories too. They are a bit offbeat and not the standard HR fare. I must say that I really liked Smite. He was so odd, yet so compelling. Who was your favorite?

message 2046: by Leea (new)

Leea Mimi, I really want to read a good HR... I'll have to check out the Turner Series.

Kay, The Siren - it's going okay. I really like Wesley and I know something shocking is coming and I have a good idea what it is and for some reason this 'uber shocking' thing is just pissing me off. lol! I feel like it's all going to be for shock value. That or I may just be in a bad mood.

message 2047: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments At the moment, I'm not feeling Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon because the hero is already infatuated with the girl at the beginning of the book.

message 2048: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Courtney I was not in to that book either. I remember being very excited to try it so it was a let down. I think the sex was steamy though.

That's too bad. I really wanted to read that at some point.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I really liked the book so I guess I'm in the minority, although I do think that book 2 was stronger overall than book 1.
