Ok. Was going to ask if you were a fangirl, but didn't want to offend you if you were only working. But that is funny that you were tracking them from city to city. I'm sure it was a blast.

It sounds like you have a very busy summer, REgina. I don't know how you do it, supermom!!

Let me find the link (I love the book too, she also writes fantasy, urban fantasy and sci fi and her dad is a sci fi writer ...) http://chicon.org/ she is on the "also appearing" list: http://chicon.org/also-appearing.php (her dad is the guest of honor). I am not sure if that is enough to make me want to file into a city though. :) But also on the list is Patricia Briggs, Jacquline Carey, GRRM (!!!), Carrie Vaughn, Bruno Vitiello, John Scalzi and those were just ones that stood out to me!

Here is a pretty cool site to find conventions: http://www.conventionscene.com/

It's very nostalgic that's for sure! i can't do it anymore though. I promised the hubby that I'd stop travelling for them especially now that we have another kid. But anything local...I'm all there!

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments You should go, Regina!! Especially since it's so close. And Patricia Briggs will be there too! Book conventions don't ever happen in San Francisco :( or else I'd be all on it.

Regina (reginar) I am not a supermom at all. It just is the result of having 4 kids! My kids were complaining that I wasn't signing them up for camps (hello, expensive and my spouse stays home!), I said, "Hey, I know of this great camp! You go to a museum once a week. There is chef prepared meals. You swim 2-3X a week. Ride bikes everyday. Play baseball and soccer every day. There is some free reading and video game time. You can sleep in late. And you will be going to the library." LOL, they all feel for it and yelled, "yes!! Let's do it!" I said, "Great, it is called Camp Luis". That's my husband's name. They were pretty ticked at me. hehe.

Oh Kay, I used to have that when I was a kid. I feel for both of you! Supposedly sitting in the middle and looking straight ahead helps. I found having cold water and crackers available helped me too. :( Poor guy.

Leea, your block sounds like my block. We socialize alot.

There is a KMM hosted convention for the release of ICED. :) What a great place to meet up at -- in New Orleans!!

Leea, that cabins sounds fantastic. We did something like that last year, but we fixed our own meals.

Kay following the New Kids -- so fun!!! My little sister did that. :) She is all of your age, she used to have bake sales to raise money for her trips. I bet you have some great memories.

That is great Stacia. One down and one to go! :)

It is hard having a spread. My spread is 8.5 years so not as big as yours, but it often feels like being pulled in two different directions. I am the youngest among my oldest's friends' parents and I am either average or slighlty older for my youngest's (had her at 36). Where I live though, is all professional couples and everyone waited until 35 to have kids, so I started younger. But when I go home to my home town, everyone I know there kids already have kids. :)

Kelly, I went back to lawschool when I was "older" too. I was 25.5 and it is still in retrospect, but I felt so much older! It was great though, I was separated from my husband temporarily (that wasn't great) but all the younger guys *wink wink* LOVED me. Then I got back together with my husband and had me a baby, but I still remember that first year of law school fondly. Funny -- my husband doesn't. :) But hey, it helped get his butt in gear and get him back to me. (we separated b/c he refused to have kids -- now we have 4 and he stays home with them). Okay, suddenly I am in the realm of TMI again. Anyway Kelly -- I get how it can make you feel both older and younger.

Camp Luis! LOL That's funny! I'm sure when they get older they'll appreciate how much time they got to spend with him in the summer.

New Orleans!! Woo!! I've been meaning to visit there someday especially since one of my best friends moved there a couple of years ago.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm doing good Laura but wanting a vacation now after all this talk of one! Getting away for a few days was not enough!

message 1965: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thanks for getting the joke! LOL. I have real life friends that went to the Shadowfeve release party in NO and loved it. I was in NO for a week for a trial so I didn't see much, I left the day Katrina hit. I would love to go back again.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Good thing you got out in time Regina!

We did a cruise out of NO about 10 years ago and stayed there after we came back into port. Garrett hated it. He said it smelled like pee, haha. We ended up eating on the Mississippi and enjoying the view but G fell asleep on the table after being worn out from the cruise.

Kelly ~ happily oblivious | 102 comments LOL. I'm having a blast reading all the posts. Regina, you totally crack me up. I love the "younger guys *wink wink* LOVED me" comment.

NO sounds great. I have no idea what KMM is or ICED, but I'm on board! Obviously, I'm not very discriminating because it could be a widget convention and I'd be willing to go.

message 1968: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That was my opinion too, I agree with G. :) But then I was working 18 hour days (8 months pregnant) and it wasn't fun. I flew out at 6:30 am and had no idea what was coming that day. I was completely obvlivious and planned to return for trial on Monday.

Kelly ~ happily oblivious | 102 comments Ok ladies, I need to head out. Going to have a few drinks with some co-workers. But it is all in the name of charity! Have a great evening.

message 1971: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha -- you are definitely in lawschool if you are saying "widget". :D Isn't it funny that when I was 25 I thought 21 and 22 was so much younger than me?

Kelly, do you enjoy urban fantasy with a decent romance/angst level? If so, you may enjoy Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Karen Marie Moning wrote that series and it is not completed (5 books). Iced is a spinoff from that series. She also writes historical romances, but the first 3 in a grouping (not really a series) are not well liked by everyone -- many people who start them stop, but starting with #4 the series/grouping gets good and sexy: Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning however it is a parnornaml historical romance -- involving time travel and it is extremely easy on the historical details.

You too! I am signing off soon to go to tball.

message 1973: by Leea (new)

Leea I understand the expense of paying for those camps - I stay at home too! But, this summer the boys need to do swim lessons and we only have 2 month till school starts again. I'm gabbing the bull by the horns this summer. haha!

Grams and Papa are here with wine and snacks... Almost time for T-ball.

message 1974: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I agree Leea, we do swimming lessons. It is such an important skill. They are complaining b/c I am not sending them to the various lego, science, building, art, etc. camps. Which are awesome and great. We just can't afford them. I needed to hide the bill for the swimming lessons for 3 kids for 3 sessions from Luis (Gabriela is already a great swimmer so she doesn't need lessons). It was crazy expensive. I am having her do the acting camp, b/c it is with friends and she gets nervous speaking in front of other people. Also, the band camp b/c we still have to rent that darned sax and it is good to keep her practicing. But I likely wont do any other camps for the kids until they get older.

Have fun with the inlaws!

message 1975: by Leea (new)

Leea ... what? Lego camp? Oh, Ethan would love that! We don't have anything like that here.

I agree, swimming is $55 for 8 lessons. I didn't think that was that bad but times 2... We plan on doing several sessions until they feel comfortable in the water and I don't get that panicked feeling when it's just me and them by a pool.

Garrett (4yrs) camp is at his preschool and they basically play outside and do crafts for 3 hours. I just need a break!

We also try to do inexpensive things like $1 movies on a hot day, making use of our club swimming pool, lot's of zoo and park trips. Plus, i spend a lot of time with my girlfriends and our kids are all boys (well except Charlotte now :) and we just let them go crazy in the backyard. I mean, really crazy. We've had many a naked sprinkler play date. lol! *they're all under 6*

Okay, I'm off... it's my dad (papa) and Jims Mom (grams) my dad picked her up on his way out here and she's staying the weekend. Yay!

I am excited, I just picked up the audio from the library of Rainshadow Road (Friday Harbor, #2) by Lisa Kleypas as soon as I finish Snow Child I will listen to that one. :)

message 1985: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Finished The Pride of Lions (Highlands, #1) by Marsha Canham ...guess I'm going to have to go out and buy the sequel!

Stacia - The heroine for The Pride of Lions can be quite annoying to some people because she's strong-willed but not strong-hearted if you know what I mean. But the story itself with the history and the characters, I loved it. The hero was the best part. I don't recommend it to readers who don't like strong heroines.

I'll probably read Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Thanks for letting me know. I need to make a historical list soon. There's about 5 series I want to start and I think I'm going to try to make sure that I read one historical per week for a while.

You'll have to let me know what you think of Born of Night. I really liked the first two books in that series but it might have been because they reminded me of a space version of BDB. Book 3 is on my short list. I don't know if the series is for everyone. A few of my friends absolutely love the books while a few others are apathetic toward them.

message 1989: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Haha, I don't know if that's a good thing that it's like BDB because the 1st book of BDB with Wrath wasn't too great for me.

message 1990: by Leea (new)

Leea Keep reading. I know a few friends who felt the same way but once you get to book 2... it's all love from there :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) BDB book 1 is borderline lame. I originally gave it 3 stars then downrated it to a 2 later after realizing that I didn't like anything about the book other than the sex scenes.

The series really does get better from there. A lot of people didn't like book 1 but fell in love with the series at book 2 or 3.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh and I started a quickie erotica. I wanted another fluff book before heading back into my Iron Druid and post apocalyptic zombie books. :p

Cat Scratch Fever by Jodi Redford The opening scene was kind of hot if you like reading about voyeurism.

message 1993: by Leea (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Speaking of...one of my friends is reading a book that has a nurse AND a dragon on the cover.

How cheesy awesome is this?

Nightshifted (Nightshifted, #1) by Cassie Alexander

message 1995: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea about the Kleypas book - I gave it 3 stars. It was my least favorite Kleypas book so far. I think bc it is a novella so it doesn't have the great build many ot her books do. But it isn't a bad book just not great like so many of her books. I have heard that #2 is better that is why I am planning on reading. If it was anyone but Kleypas I wouldn't go on in the series. But her - ill give it a chance.

Regina - I really liked your 'Camp Luis' trick. Their faces were probably priceless. :)

message 1997: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thanks DG. I thought I was being particularly funny. :D

So I read #1 in that post-apoc romance series I mentioned before and I barely gave it 3 stars. It is probably more like 2.75. I skipped to #3 in the series, I am at 40% and it is so much better! Right now I am thinking 4 stars. I am loving it. Okay, it is cheesy - -it has time travel/shape shifters/post apoc set up (lol, makes me laugh) and a post apoc by nucleur war, asteroids AND disesase that killed off all the women. Add in romance. Let's see if I can stay interested, I am hopeful!
Wolf Tracker (After the Crash #3) by Maddy Barone

I am loving

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey it is such an amazingly beautiful story. The narration is good - -but I also keep going back to the text to read parts again b/c it is written so beautifully.

There is a giveaway and a really good interview of the author of Nightshifted today on a blog by a GR friend (Maja), let me find it ..... http://www.thenocturnallibrary.com/20... -- I wouldn't have read the interview if I hadn't seen your post Stacia. It was funny, I saw them at about the same time. I hope I win. The premise is really interesting and I guess the heroine is sort of flawed, not perfect - or badass. Which I find interesting.
