What Are You Reading Now?

Ad take ME TOO. I might now reply but I read ALL comments, and read some books that people are reading.

Guess we'll have to wait & see what happens when Amazon takes over. I buy virtually everything from them, anyway. Let's hope that if it ain't broke, don't fix it - OR that feedback from GR members will affect whatever changes happen.
Now, if Facebook bought GR, I'd be having fits!

I just learned that Amazon also owns IMDb

I just had such high hopes for a good book and a good story in Lover at Last and I don't think she delivered that. Yes, we got some steamy sexy scenes, yes we got to see (view spoiler) but ultimately it was not that satisfying. It did however make me want to return to Psycop. :D["br"]>["br"]>

I didn't read your spoiler because I am not sure where that was in the book. I am only about 18% in.
I have a feeling this book will be disappointing. You think that J.R. Ward would have known how much this book was highly anticipated and gotten her shit together for this one.

I loved the PsyCop series. Talk about leaving you hanging.

Kay what did/do you think of Lover at Last.
I still need to read

Yes Regina I did read them all. I consumed that series so fast. The only ones I didn't read were the litte novellas inbetween only because I didn't have them. But I miss those boys. I hope the author plans another book.

I loved those boys and miss them too! She is planning another book, it was supposed to be out this year. But I haven't seen any hint of it.

"Kay what did/do you think of Lover at Last."
I just finished and posted some thoughts in the BDB thread.
I'm not sure what to read now.

Not a cliff hanger...more an incomplete story. No resolution.

Marcella -- that is really frustrating. Maybe I will wait to dive in.

THat is exactly what I thought was going to happen! I have to say, that bothered me too. ANNND again, because I tend to compare Brockmann and Ward... (view spoiler) .
I agree! If you ladies all leave to another reading social site let us know. I'm hoping that it doesn't change too much. I love Goodreads.

I am not leaving right now, but I will follow you all anywhere! :D
I tried shelfari (also owned by Amazon) and librarything and didn't find them comparable or fun.
I know that some people used to post a lot on a book swapping site, not sure if that still exists.

I hope nothing really changes though. I don't want to leave. We've already put so much time into THESE shelves.

I agree. This is a special place for readers. But if there is a mass decamping, I wanna come too! I really look forward to all the posts here.

I'm not happy with the acquisition but I'm going to stay and wait it out. I can deal with extra advertising and stuff like that (go go adblock). The only thing that would make the site unusable would be if it got a point where there was non-stop spam and shilling everywhere you go, which is not entirely unthinkable.
Someone yesterday had linked a bunch of articles and this is what I'd been referencing in my hasty post yesterday :

This snippet is the one freaking people out.
Amazon said it also plans to use Goodreads to help authors find readers who might not otherwise know about them.
That type of thinking goes against the thought that GR has always been a community site, where readers help each other find books to read. I would hate for it to turn into a site mainly looked at as a marketing tool for authors.
*edit* I will clarify that authors are readers too and I have gotten many recs from author friends.
And it's fine to use GR as a marketing tool when done so in the proper manner, but it's the idea of seeing a wave of new Amazon self-pub authors (who hadn't heard of GR before the merge) coming over here looking to contribute nothing to the community other than wanting to sell their book that scares me - not the authors who join GR and integrate themselves into the community and at least try to learn and follow the etiquette rules about knowing when and where to post or promote without stepping over boundaries.

You are one of my friends who have kept me from losing faith in all authors. It's comments like these which remind me that there are still great authors on this site.

I guess I plan on just waiting and seeing what happens but I'm not very happy about the whole merger.

I'm OK with Amazon pushing authors at me - GR sort of does now, with the ads. I choose to be interested or not. And the freebie book sites are other ways I get interested in an author or book/series.
But by far, most of the books I've read since I joined 1-2 years ago now have come from Goodreads friends and members of groups.
So... if ya'll decide to go elsewhere, just let me know where. I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that.

If you look up a book, underneath the book picture is a 'sponsered link' of the books and the sequels on Amazon.
It's like hiden and seek!

Any interesting Forbes article on the acquisition: http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeremygre...

Imagine finishing your Kindle ebook and being prompted at the end to rate it for your Goodreads profile; your Goodreads (and Facebook) friends see this — that you finished the book and rated it — and respond. In a world where everything one does is becoming social (which most people seem to like), this makes a lot of sense.

And actually, it is smart of Amazon to do. They're right, it does give them access to our book clubs, to reads and recommendations. It's a HUGE in on what's seeing a rise in popularity.
I'm okay with it as long as Goodreads never feels too corporate.

In addition to getting all the “to read” lists (a valuable indicator of what Goodreads users intend to buy), Amazon also captures all the social interaction data — the recommendations, the book clubs — which is completely lacking from its own site (though it does own also-ran book social networking site Shelfari and an interest in the slightly more successful LibraryThing). Not only can Amazon use that data to improve its conversion rates and enhance the Kindle experience, it also prevents its competition from getting a hold

Thank you! That means a lot.
What really concerns me is as someone mentioned, Amazon's policy of censoring reviews. How are we supposed to have the open, thriving discussion we have both in forums and as we post our reviews if they could be removed for reasons unknown? That's the red flag for me.

For now they're saying that Goodreads will continue to function as a separate entity, still run by Otis and still in it's base in CA. Pretty much like IMDB, even though it's an Amazon owned company.
So I'm praying that remains true.

Probably going to start

I find it very interesting the amount of data that Amazon will be able to gather from GR. If they purely use this acquisition for that purpose only they will not only increase our book buying but may even be able to to introduce us to books we didn't know about yet. Sorry, statistical data is my thing... haha!

AS LONG AS Amazon doesn't interfere with the boards and chat, I'm OK with this move. When I finish a Kindle book, I'm already prompted to put in a rating and a review, but it's for Amazon - probably because I buy virtually all books from them. Except the freebies that I get from a couple of online sources.
Leea, Wendy, Regina... what's the next big series to start? Or is everyone in the middle of another series? I've got plenty on my TBR list, but buddy reads are always fun.

But when you factor in the 67 other storylines, it will be a full length novel. haha

I'm actually more looking forward to this one than I am a BoB book. My hope is that it'll be about Wrath and Beth and the Trez or Assail stuff will just be a side story.
She said she's bringing it back to the original boys, which makes me happy. She also said there will be another book for Butch and Manny, and it's gonna give closure to Butch and Jose. Bout darn time, lmao.
