Leea Wild Man Creek (Virgin River, #14) by Robyn Carr : I love it! I have to say that Colin is just so cute and I can just picture Jill knee deep in mud planting her garden. I have no idea where this story will go... (view spoiler)

Jack... (view spoiler)

Denny (view spoiler)

Enjoyed reading about how Rick is doing in Oregon. I wonder if Carr will revisit that storyline again.

I love reading about Luke and Shelby and baby Brett. Luke and Shelby was my favorite love story. I loved reading her take what she wanted and never question it. I respect that about her, she goes after what she wants. There is a scene in Wild Man Creek where Luke talks about Shelby crying and how he can't take it when she cried. So sweet!

message 702: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) The set up to sweet dreams sounds good. Thanks Leea! Please don't feel bad and hopefully you don't think I am a big PIA.

For the life of me I cannot remember if Denny is or isn't! But I know it is discussed. I also remember in one of the future books that there is a local organic and prospering/growing organic farm -- I am guessing that is Jillian's! And she has a guy with her. :) I agree, I don't think he is going to N. Africa.

I love that she shows real life -- kids need feeding/changing/putting to sleep. Couples have issues, etc -- and talk about real life stuff.

message 703: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea, how far are you into Wildman Creek?

I realize I only have two more to read and I am all caught up! :( #15: Harvest Moon (Virgin River, #15) by Robyn Carr (which is waiting for me at the library) and then the one being released next week #19: Sunrise Point (Virgin River, #19) by Robyn Carr

message 704: by Leea (new)

Leea PIA? Oh, got it ;) No, not at all. Never. We all just have similar liked but we don't like all the same stuff. That would be boring. I would hate for you to continue a book, you don't like because of me. Life is way to short for bad books.

I have less than 100 pages in Wild Man Creek... It's starting to get really interesting and Kelley (jills sis) is visiting and making yummy food. Like I need another reason to pack it all up and move to VR. haha!

I have a few buddy reads this week, but I might be able to start #15 this weekend (although, weekends are so busy.) No pressure at all :)

I wonder how many book Carr will write about Virgin River. Oh, also, I saw another small town series by Carr. Deep in the Valley (Grace Valley Trilogy, #1) by Robyn Carr . I wonder if it's good?

message 705: by Leea (new)

Leea I should apologize, i've had WAY too much coffee today... haha!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Carina, I think I already told you and Leea both but I won't even be cracking it open until tonight.

Leea, part of me wonders if I shouldn't have just started at book 2.

message 707: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Stacia, you mean with Sweet Dreams? Me too. I plan to give it a try.

Leea, lol. I wish i could have more coffee but it is too late here for me to be drinking coffee!

I am going to look for a copy of that book, it is only a trilogy but hey -- like you posted on your book review thread -- what am I going to do when I am done????

message 708: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So the next Virgin River is a christmas book! :( http://www.robyncarr.com/series.html

She also has some standalones:

message 709: by Leea (new)

Leea My cut off is 5pm... I still have time here :) Having my own expresso machine does have it's draw backs.

Yeah, I hope you ladies like Sweet Dreams. Yikes, the pressure.

Wow 20 books! How does she still keep this series fresh and us coming back for more?

Yes, I think I should have started with SD. I'll probably read it but not at least for a couple of weeks. After I finish the book I'm on, I need to give adult contemporary romance a breather. I'm not sure why but this genre is still my least favorite. Maybe because I hold my characters to a higher standard in realistic fiction than I do in historical or fantasy books, yet for whatever reason, it seems like the most slap-worthy characters are in contemps. Go figure!

We will hold you responsible! Silly lady, of course it isn't any reflection on you at all. :) My cut off is 2:30.

message 713: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm having coffee now! I can drink up till 6:30 or so.

This has been a weird day at work. The Global CEO came to the office to welcome the new US CEO and gave us a presentation which we thought was going to be a pep talk but was really "improve or else!" (not in that many words but that was the message.)

I know I've said I should be looking for a new job but I really need to get my ass in gear now.

message 714: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG, that is a huge warning sign. I was at a firm that was later acquired (like 6 months later - it had put itself on the market b/c it was sinking fast) and anyway, we were going to have a pep talk b/c key top people left. So we all go into this meeting and the managing partner ended up lecturing us and using very personal experiences (without names, but we each could identify ourselves) as reasons of what needed improving. I should have left then, but I held on out of comfort and high salary. Leave now!!! *deep breath* :)

message 715: by Leea (last edited Apr 17, 2012 02:30PM) (new)

Leea I hate it when they do that. Like them saying 'improve or else' will really motivate you. ugh! Sorry, D.G.

I know you wont hold me responsible, I just liked Lauren and Tate and I hope you will :)

message 716: by D.G. (new)

D.G. If I find job, I'll sure will! To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind if they let me go. I'm due for a long vacation.

message 717: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, Who is Darla and Phil Prentiss from Virgin River? I could swear i've never heard of them. ha!

message 718: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL DG, I feel the same on many days.

Hmmm, let me think for a minute Leea ....

message 719: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh I remember - -they are the couple who kept trying to have kids in Moonlight Road #14, problems conceiving and miscarriages. Ultimatley, (view spoiler)

message 720: by Laura (new)

Laura | 131 comments Hey ladies! Finished The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks and halfway through Rock Chick Redemption (Rock Chick, #3) by Kristen Ashley . This series is great! So funny and great characters!

message 721: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Read The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred aqnd I loved the first part, but after that...not so much.

message 722: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I had HUGE issues with that book, Mimi.

message 723: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Gah, I ended up giving it 3.5 stars. Really, I loved their childhood and youth, but after the separation, the heroine's hatred and unreasonableness were too much. And the Grand Misunderstanding was... I don't know. I have no problem with him(except maybe he should've TOLD her what was going on) and I know he had to leave. But her reactions were all wrong. Even after he came back *sigh*. Way to ruin a promising book...

message 724: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Actually, I'm the opposite. I think she was right to be mad at him, and think he was really dishonorable to (view spoiler). I also think he was old enough to know he was out of his league with the problem with the other girl and he should have asked for help.

I wrote a really long review about the book if you want to check out where I'm coming from.

message 725: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Well, yeah, but her hatred of him was so... Intense. She blamed him for everything that went wrong in her life. I mean, she knew he had to (view spoiler)

As I said, she just bothered me.

message 726: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I would have hated him too. (view spoiler)

message 727: by Kay (new)

How was the Lucky One? I vowed to myself never to read another Nicholas Sparks book again. LOL But since the movie is coming out, I'm curious to know if it is any good.

message 728: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I've never read a book by Nicholas Sparks. How are they?

message 729: by Kay (last edited Apr 18, 2012 03:29PM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "I've never read a book by Nicholas Sparks. How are they?"

From the ones that I have read, start off usually about how a couple falls in love and then there seems to be a common theme of one of the following: death, illness, tragedy, etc. These are decent books if you're okay with no HEA sometimes.

message 730: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Whenever I think about his books I think about the father who was an author in Anna and the French Kiss -- her dad wrote these kinds of books. :)

that reminds me that I still have to read Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins .

message 732: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Me too Kay. I have the audio on my iphone ready to go, I just need to make time for it.

I really want to read these... I'm so glad you're enjoying them.

My computer crashed. It sucks. I'm pissed. My husband is gone and I want to run the damn thing over with my car. I'm really mad because I won't be able to load books for awhile. Ahhh!

Okay, so I finished Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride and i simply adored this book.. Then I picked up Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James and HOLY CRAP....

message 735: by Leea (new)

Leea Haha! Do you like Fifty Shell?

message 736: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 18, 2012 07:52PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) I've been on a Harlequin kick b/c I felt the need for some fluff after all the serious stuff I'd been reading. lol

So, I'm reading this trilogy Secrets We Keep with three of my fave authors(Liz Fielding, Barbara Hannay and Jackie Braun) I found pretty cheap on Amazon. The first book Reunited: Marriage in a Million: Secrets We Keep was pretty good. I just started the second Needed: Her Mr. Right.

On an extremely disturbing level.. why yes, yes I do....

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and I cried, it was so moving.

Will start The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams tomorrow for our buddy read!

Yes, but, I didn't quite see it (view spoiler)

message 740: by D.G. (new)

D.G. He wasn't a teenager. I think he was at least 2-3 years older than her (she was in her last year of high school so 18 for her and at least 20 for him.) That's not being a child so I would expect him to be responsible and at least wonder about the possibility of getting this girl pregnant, specially when her family had been so kind to him when he needed it.

You have to see it from her perspective. I think she felt abandoned and with good reason. (view spoiler)

message 741: by D.G. (last edited Apr 19, 2012 04:08AM) (new)

D.G. I finished My Dearest Enemy and I can tell why early suffragist don't show up in romance too often. Even though I can understand where that woman was coming from, I couldn't help but find her so annoying! She acted like men were horrible creatures left on this earth to torture women and every revelation that the hero was a person came as a surprise to her.

Now I'll start The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams

message 742: by Mimi (last edited Apr 19, 2012 04:25AM) (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Well, apparently, neither of them thought logically, lol. (view spoiler)

I don't know, D.G. we both had a problem with this book and the characters, but an opposite one, lol. Together we'd like give the book either 1 or 5 stars. I guess I saw the events and the characters in a different light than you, and while I get what you're saying, it doesn't change my view(just as yours is unchanged)... Still, I like discussing and analyzing books like this... It's interesting.

message 743: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am starting The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams for our buddy read! I am so starting the audio of The Clan of the Cave Bear (Earth's Children, #1) by Jean M. Auel

message 744: by D.G. (last edited Apr 19, 2012 04:53AM) (new)

D.G. Exactly! The responsibility was THEIRS but it ended up being only HERS. He didn't assume any!

You are definitely fairer than I because I really understood this woman's anger, hatred and need for revenge - except, I would have never gone back to him...there was just too much bad blood. Oh I would have gone to jail after stabbing him in the balls. I so would have. :)

As I tell people often, I'm not nice. :)

message 745: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments But, how could he assume responsibility if he didn't know anything about what came next? He had already sacrificed so much to protect someone, I think he would've done right by her. Frankly, she decided she didn't want him to know. I think there could've been a way to do it, but she was so angry and bitter she did it on her own and with that other guy.

Uhm, well, maybe I'm just not bloodthirsty :P.

message 746: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I think it's pretty well known that having sex can result in babies, specially if there's no protection involved. :) And he was (supposedly) smart enough to realize that the other business had the potential to become very serious and he didn't handle it well.

If he had been completely alone without any person to trust, I would have understood why he thought he needed to handle this on his own but there was the grandfather, who had been almost like a surrogate father for 10 years. I really couldn't understand why he thought he could reach out to him.

Also, I blame him because as the only person with knowledge of all the facts, he had more control of the situation. (view spoiler)

LOL, definitely we both had strong feelings about the book even if they were the opposite. We'll have to agree to disagree!

message 747: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh I started The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams . Do we have a thread to discuss this book or are we going to talk about it here?

So far I'd like to understand why (view spoiler)

message 748: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I have been reading your posts Mimi and DG and all the spoilers (b/c I will never read this book) and I am so interested in the discussion. Everytime I read one of your posts I think -- yeah! Then I read the other's post and I think -- oh, yeah this! LOL.

message 749: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am starting the buddy read of The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams I have only read the beginning, but the writer is good and I like it so far. UF is hard for me right now, but it is going really well.

And I am listening to The Clan of the Cave Bear (Earth's Children, #1) by Jean M. Auel

I keep on the back burner and am slowly reading these: Wool 4 The Unraveling by Hugh Howey The Walking Dead, Vol. 2 Miles Behind Us by Robert Kirkman

message 750: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh DG, I wanted to add about Nightfall (Dark Age Dawning, #1) by Ellen Connor that Kay wasn't crazy about it either.

My issue wasn't the romance, but was there was a lack of character development, overly cheesy lines (and overly cliched as well), each character fit a very cliched and over used stereotype, and things happened without any buildup (like sex, or bonding between people). So I dnfed it. The best thing about it was the set-up and the world. It wasn't the romance that turned me off at all. I love romance in a world falling apart. :) But what I meant is if maybe if someone was reading it just for the romance, they might like it. I would love for someone who didn't like #1, to push through #2 and tell me if it is better.
