i totally agree Angie!

message 7404: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm going to start The Wanderer in a few because I don't know what else to read. haha! I'll read slow :)

message 7405: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL -- Okay. :D

message 7406: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Thought that One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, #2) by Jeaniene Frost was a lot of sexy fun.

Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane - I loved Chess and all her problems. I think what made me hesitant about this book is I'm not convinced about the whole Chess and Terrible dynamic. Maybe it's because I've read so much about how awesome they are. But I will continue with the series to find out.

Partway through - Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews Enjoying the series.

message 7407: by Leea (last edited Feb 25, 2013 02:14PM) (new)

Leea Hey Tellulah! Keep reading the Downside Ghosts... believe me it's a relationship that grows but it's bumpy along the way.

Kate Daniels... another amazing UF series that the ladies in this group got me reading. Enjoy - it's another slow going romance but so very much worth the wait.

Night huntress... good god that's a hot book. Have fun with that amazing series.

I'll definitely not be lacking for books for a while. :)

Regina (reginar) LOL, thanks. :)

message 7411: by Angie Elle (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I never would have found that post again, and Maya Banks is the only one I've read, so I never would've remembered!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I don't check NG or ED religiously. I'm lazy. I usually go off of what other friends have found.

Started Shelter Mountain (Virgin River, #2) by Robyn Carr over the weekend and will probably finish it tonight. Not really a fan because I'm sort of bored with the story. But I am having fun reading the book because the main character is supposed to be very similar to a friend of mine, so I'm reading it to get inside of his head. :p

message 7413: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Did you skip #1?

I go through spurts -- some weeks I check and some weeks I don't.

message 7414: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Feb 25, 2013 03:15PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I did. I was talked into a buddy read.

This might just be the contemp romance roadblock for me, where I tend to zone out if nothing big is happening. They're hanging out in a bar, she's taking care of her kid, they went shopping...it's all too low-key for me. Even though (view spoiler)

But I chalk it up to the problem being with me. I'm sort of annoyed and/or bored with the majority of romances that I've read recently. I might need to start branching out into some other adult genres - maybe pick up something grittier or different.

message 7415: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) What you just described is why I read Virgin River and Destiny Falls -- it is like eating macaroni and cheese (or maybe Preacher's food). :) But I can see why it wouldn't appeal to everyone.

I didn't see your review/rating for #1. Sorry I missed it!

message 7416: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL, just excuse me. I completely misunderstood your post and get it now. :) You didn't read #1, but are doing #2 as a buddy read. :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Yeah, I had some friends who'd been wanting me to read it for a while, so when the date was set and I hadn't read the first book yet, I just had to skip it.

I think I'm just not an adult contemporary romance girl unless the read is darker or different. Every-day life bores me. I have an every-day life already. :)

But I know that I'm in the minority.

message 7418: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Virgin River is definitely not dark!

I like dark, I definitely like dark. But sometimes I need the comfort read too.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I do like comfort reads with other genres. My comfort go-to is Lisa Kleypas. She's completely formulaic, but her balance of humor and steam is always my safe place.

I feel much the same about her.

Those are all the things I LOVE about Virgin River. haha!

Love the new Avatar, Amy :)

message 7422: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes by Jojo Moyes and The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway by Ernest Hemingway.

I loved Me Before You from beginning to the end. It's a very complex novel. It is well-written, heart-breaking, gripping and deeply moving. I cried my eyes out several times while reading this book. I don't think I've ever cried this much while reading a book before! This novel deals with the topic of euthanasia and could have been really depressing but it's a credit to the skill of the author that she makes the book so readable. This is a thought provoking story and, whatever you feel about assisted suicide, it will make you think about how you would cope if suddenly all your choices and decisions were taken away from you and you had to rely on others to do everything for you. I gave this book 4.5 Stars!

Now I'm a couple of chapters into Lean Mean Thirteen (Stephanie Plum, #13) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich.

message 7424: by Leea (new)

Leea Yay!! I hope to start tomorrow :) Today was crazy busing and I survived day 2 of my husband being gone for 5 days. Pheww! Although i'm not feeling so good and i'm afraid i'm getting strep. My throat is burning.

message 7425: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) so loving this series! Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Leea wrote: "Those are all the things I LOVE about Virgin River. haha! ..."

Yeah, this book was so not for me. If I'd been there, I'd have fallen asleep.

message 7427: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Tellulah - #3 is where it gets so good!

Leea, I say call the doc now. No messing around, strep sucks.

Angie, Kay and Leea, what do you think? I am 15% in, so far it is a lot of set up but I understand why. I am hoping to get to the story. :)

Stacia I think this series is definitely not for people who do not like to escape to the ordinary. :) Also, if a reader doesn't like to read about pregnancy and babies - -then this series is not for them either! For me, it is an ideal of what the ordinary could be like and that is what I like or need to read when life gets rough!

message 7430: by Valérie (last edited Feb 26, 2013 09:27AM) (new)

Valérie (valou5) | 11 comments OK girls, I am almost done with the Maze Runner : The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner 100 pages left to read and despite all the bad review I've read, I quite like the story ; no there is not much details or information given on why or how they found themselves in the maze, yes it is written like the action and the story was describe from an outsider, but I think it fits well with the story of the creators watching them form a distance... I love the characters - Newt, chuck and Tom and i cant wait to know how it will end up!

I'm only 6% in, so I'm not sure yet.

I have a feeling this author is very thorough with characterization, though.

message 7433: by Leea (new)

Leea I only read a few pages last night and passed out. I can already tell there will be a lot of set up. I was looking for something separate from VR but it sounds like she making this an extension or spinn off?

I think i'm better... I kept drinking tons of water yesterday, taking mass amounts of vitamine C and stealing the boys Juice Plus gummies... I'm going to repeat the same thing today. My throat does not hurt as much at all.

message 7434: by Sumi (new)

Sumi (scientia) | 28 comments Tales Before Tolkien
Dave Barry's Greatest Hits
The Essays of Michel Eyquem de Montaigne

Short-form compilations are what I have time for right now. Though admittedly I'm almost always reading Montaigne. (Mostly I'm writing. And soon I'll be studying. *sigh*)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Happy Belated Birthday Wendy! Sorry I didn't know it was your birthday.

message 7438: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea and Angie, I think you are right. Carr is very thorough with her characterization and the main character (Cooper) knows Riordan. I don't remember him from the last VR book, but it doesn't sound like there was a lot of set up. I was hoping for it to be completely different, so let's see where she takes it.

Ahhhhhhhh Tellulah, book 4 is fantastic. :)

message 7439: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments finished More which was really good and now on to Beyond Complicated by Mercy Celeste .

message 7440: by Leea (new)

Leea You know I like it! I can see that Carr is laying the groundwork for another long series of books because there are so many characters that could find a HEA (view spoiler)

message 7441: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Thank you!

Valerie, I liked Maze Runner a lot! It was the following books that disappointed me.

message 7442: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina, Leea, and Angie...I'm sorry I think I will have to bow out of the read for The Wanderer. I've only read a few pages but it sounds like small town and military guys. I don't want to read a new series similar to Virgin River and it's also somewhat of a spin off. So, I would like to finish VR before I dive into this one. Sorry :(

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Valérie wrote: "OK girls, I am almost done with the Maze Runner : The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner 100 pages left to read and despite all the bad review I've read, I quite like the story ; no there is not much ..."

I was a Minho girl.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Lori McD wrote: "Happy (belated) birthday to Stacia, too!"

Oh and thanks for this, I missed it before when I was looking at the book convo!

message 7446: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) No worries Kay! I didn't realize it was a spin off. I understand completely.

message 7447: by Leea (new)

Leea I guess it's a spinn off because coop worked with Luke In the military. But it's a whole new town. Lot of similarities. Like the bar. Lol!

I'm to chapter 4, I like it so far. What do you think Regina?

message 7448: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am liking it. The bar -- yikes! LOL. It fees kind of like what it would have been like if Carr wrote a book about Jack opening the bar and first arrive at VR.

I like how detailed it is and how slow it is to unfold. I am also liking that Cooper identifies with the loner kid.

message 7449: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Hey ladies! I just found out that Cassandra Clare will be at the Grove in Los Angeles on March 21st at 7:00 p.m. I am really considering going but all he books I have of hers are on my Nook. Huh what to do?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You could always buy a discounted copy of book 1 somewhere.
