Regina (reginar) DG I just saw your post about Hunting Ground. #2 is definitely the weakest in the series. Fair Game (#3) is fantastic though.

message 652: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu this morning, which is a dystopia novel and I loved it!! I highly recommend it, if you're in the mood for YA.

I do highly recommend The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams . It's hard for a UF to really grab my attention but this one did. I hope you all enjoy it if you decide to read it.

I'm currently reading Tall, Dark & Lonely (Pyte/Sentinel Series, #1) by R.L. Mathewson which I'm enjoying so far.

message 653: by Leea (new)

Leea Hope you like it, I did :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Kay, let us know how Tall, Dark and Lonely turns out. I'd like to try something else by that author but I'm not sure if I really want to read the second Neighbor from Hell book since the first one was pretty good and I don't think the second one can measure up to how funny Jason was.

How do you guys feel about either this Friday or next Monday for Shadow Reader? I know weekends are a bust for most people, but I figure Friday is safe because if someone thinks they'll take more than a day, they can always start late Thursday or something.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh, and I'm about 30% into The Gamble and I'm not impressed so far. There's way too much filler plot. However, I do really like Max.

message 656: by D.G. (new)

D.G. It will take me more than a day so most likely I'll start on Thursday. I need it to be done by the time there's a shelf announcement for the bingo game on Saturday.

message 657: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG, what about seeing if this can fit a bingo shelf?

message 658: by D.G. (new)

D.G. It depends on which shelf is called. I'm only planning to read 4 shelves and this book fits 3 of those.

message 659: by Leea (new)

Leea Stacia *the pusher wrote: "Oh, and I'm about 30% into The Gamble and I'm not impressed so far. There's way too much filler plot. However, I do really like Max."

Oh bummer, it picks up. Nina describes everything :)

D.G. I've tried to read Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs like 3 times and I can't get into it. I might start it today because I really want to move on with the series. Just so you know, you're not alone :)

Kay, Oh do share what you think of Tall Dark and Lonely? That author is on my radar right now. :)

Finished Wild Man (Dream Man, #2) by Kristen Ashley and parts dragged, too much detail but I loved Brock and more importantly Tess. Time for a break from all the sweetness and CR...

message 660: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Lee did you want to start Wild Man Creek (Virgin River, #14) by Robyn Carr

message 661: by D.G. (last edited Apr 16, 2012 12:05PM) (new)

D.G. Leea - Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs is a short book so just keep pushing. It's really not a bad book, just not as good as the others.

I finished The Charade (Ecstasy, #2) by Mackenzie McKade which had one of the craziest plots I've read. When you find yourself laughing at a BDSM book, you know something's wrong (I'm planning to write a review when I get home.)

Now most likely I'll switch to print for Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie , that way I can skip all the maudlin musings and then I need to find what to listen. I'm trying to work on audios I've already downloaded instead of getting new ones from the library.

message 662: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I really liked the "white witch" in this book -- and what it cost her to achieve power.

message 663: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina wrote: "Lee did you want to start Wild Man Creek (Virgin River, #14) by Robyn Carr"

No, I was waiting for you :) Let me know if you want to read that together. Saw a new Robyn Carr, Virgin River book is out tomorrow. That women writes fast :)

message 664: by Leea (new)

Leea Thanks D.G, I know it's short but I was still having trouble. haha! Glad it gets better :)

message 665: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Cool lets do it now if that is okay.

message 666: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments You girls make me want to go out and buy The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams right now! I love this genre and the cover is beautiful!

Gotta finish Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews though! Halfway through!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "It will take me more than a day so most likely I'll start on Thursday. I need it to be done by the time there's a shelf announcement for the bingo game on Saturday."

So is that a go then? Or do you need to hold off until later?

Courtney, you're welcome to join us if we end up doing the book.

message 668: by Leea (new)

Leea Thursday works for me :)

message 669: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea wrote: "Thursday works for me :)"

Cool -- are you okay with starting Wild Man Creek (Virgin River, #14) by Robyn Carr now?

message 670: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Stacia *the pusher wrote: "So is that a go then? Or do you need to hold off until later?"

Regina! Do you want to wait until Saturday to see if we can fit it with Bingo or can you start on Thursday?

message 671: by Leea (new)

Leea Yep :) Yay!! I can't wait to read about Colin.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Leea wrote: "Thursday works for me :)"

I'm going to probably be starting Me Before You later on Tuesday since I have to be gone for most of tomorrow, unless we get done early. But I'll still be reading it - just a bit later in the day.

message 673: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, I was going to start Me Before You tomorrow as well. I can't wait!

Then Shadow Reader on Thursday.

message 674: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL, I need to quit my job, leave my family and stop exercising to get all my books in! Only kidding, slightly. Because realistically, then I couldn't afford my books and I would die early due to being so unhealthy.

My goal is to start Thursday. Hopefully I can. I don't have a strong urge to go back to The Gamble (sorry Stacia), but I am only 10% in.

message 675: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm sorry you ladies are not liking The Gamble.

If only we could run together and chat books :) That's what my girlfriend and I used to do before she go knocked up. haha!

message 676: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I so agree!!!! IT isn't that I dislike it, it just isn't calling to me. And you predicted that.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Why are you apologizing to me, Regina? I don't expect you to read a book that's not doing it for you.

Unless the last 40% of the book wows me, I might be looking at about a 2 to 2.5 star rating. I was warned though that this was one of her early books and that her skill set has improved quite a bit since then, so I'm willing to give the next book in the series a chance, especially since I keep being told repeatedly that the hero is going to be one I'll love.

KA has good ideas but she needs to tighten up her writing a bit. Okay, she needs to tighten it up a lot. This book could have easily been condensed by half and it would have been twice as good.

Unless it's Outlander or an epic fantasy book, there's never any reason for a romance to be 1700 pages.

message 678: by Leea (new)

Leea Not sure why I feel bad... What do you think of Max? He's really alpha.

message 679: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Apr 16, 2012 02:55PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I think Max is great. His alpha-ness (I know, not a word) doesn't bother me. It's more protective than controlling. He shows his sweet side constantly, so that's probably why I don't even flinch when he goes alpha.

Alphas who are protective and slightly possessive are sexy. That's why I love BDB alphas. The protective nature and the "mine" thing is hot.

Alphas who want to control your every movement are not sexy. That's why I struggled with Knight. I would have taken the bedroom version of him in a heartbeat because his dirty talk is off the charts, but outside of the bedroom? Not on your life.

message 680: by Leea (new)

Leea I agree with you :) I felt like there was too much detail and over and over again. It was an emotional experience for me, I got wrapped up in the story. I loved Max and Nina together. KA's writing improves with Sweet Dreams.

Knight is a whole other ball game, he's controlling in every aspect and the bedroom dirty talk is on fire... Babe!

message 681: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Tall, Dark & Lonely (Pyte/Sentinel Series, #1) by R.L. Mathewson and it was horrible. This lacked the humor that Playing for Keeps had.

message 682: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh Kay, that stinks. I'm sorry. What are you going to read next?

message 683: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I just read the prologue to Sempre by J.M. Darhower and it grabbed my attention so I think that's what I will read next. I need something different since I feel like I wasted my time on Tall,Dark & Lonely. LOL

message 684: by Leea (new)

Leea *Jumping up and down* I want to read that too... haha! Maybe next week and after you tell me if it's good. I have a few buddy reads coming up.

message 685: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm excited to read something mafia romance related which is new to me. From some reviews, it sounds like it's good. I hope so. I'll def let you know what I think when I'm done.

message 686: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, i've never read a mafia romance, exciting!! How long is it?

I'm not getting updates... again. GR is starting to really piss me off.

message 687: by Aestas Book Blog (new)

Aestas Book Blog (aestasbookblog) | 7 comments Ooooo I'm reading Sempre by J.M. Darhower right now. I'm halfway through and it's gooooood. I've been posting status updates as I go with quotes and stuff you can check it out if you want an idea of what it's like. So far, its heading for a 5 star rating :)

message 688: by Leea (new)

Leea Aestas, you're the first person I saw reading it and loved all the quotes. What would you compare it to? The Bronze Horseman?

message 689: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm not getting updates either. Boo! The ebook is 587 pages so, it's not a short read.

Good to know, Aestas. I just hope there's a HEA.

message 690: by Aestas Book Blog (last edited Apr 16, 2012 10:43PM) (new)

Aestas Book Blog (aestasbookblog) | 7 comments Leea wrote: "Aestas, you're the first person I saw reading it and loved all the quotes. What would you compare it to? The Bronze Horseman?"

Nope! Lol absolutely nothing I've ever heard of even remotely compares to TBH :p

Seriously though, it's unlike anything I've ever read. I have absolutely no comparison point. It's one of those ones where the guys who are technically the bad guys (and for example, just shoot a 17 yr old kid for messing up a drug deal) turn around and offer kind, sound, understanding fatherly advice ... Just for example. You don't know who to like and who to hate and it's really cool cuz it becomes all a matter of perspective and there is no right answer.... Their romance started out really cute but now it's starting to get a little hot too. It's not super graphic so far but it's also deeeeefinitely not YA - kinda in the middle... So far, if it continues being as good as it has been, Id definitely recommend reading it.
But it's quite long!! I think it's like 600 pages or something. But it's kinda nice cuz it gives more character development....

There is a HEA :) I always check first! But it's open for more to happen and there is a sequel being written. But as far as I know, it's HEA. And if it's not, imma be pissed LoL

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Kay wrote: "I finished Tall, Dark & Lonely (Pyte/Sentinel Series, #1) by R.L. Mathewson and it was horrible. This lacked the humor that Playing for Keeps had."

NOOOOO. :( I'm sad now. Thanks for letting us know Kay. I will be staying away from it now.

I finished The Gamble and have mixed feelings. It was far too long and far too much was going on BUT I did think Max was such a great character.

Next book up will be Me Before You by Jojo Moyes with Leea tomorrow.

message 692: by Leea (new)

Leea Ooooh, it sounds good. Okay, it's up after my buddy reads :)

message 693: by Leea (new)

Leea Stacia, I can't wait :) My husband is traveling again so it's early bed for the kids and then I can read read read ;)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'll be out for a while tomorrow, but I already begged my husband to let me have some extra reading time this week, so he said he'll watch the little one so I can go in the bedroom and read in quiet tomorrow night!

message 695: by Leea (new)

Leea awww so sweet! Yay! I have the unbelievable urge to just write... DUDE!

message 696: by D.G. (last edited Apr 17, 2012 04:09AM) (new)

D.G. So I switched Crossed to print and it sort of improved the book. Maybe because I'm not listening to their overly sweet voices, I dunno.

Then I started two books: Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastard, #2) by Scott Lynch which is definitely the audio I needed and My Dearest Enemy by Connie Brockway , a historical romance I've heard about. Both going very well...

message 697: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It is hard to keep up with you west coast/mountain time ladies! And I am sort of jealous. As I role out of bed I bet you are all nice and snug in it!

So I am conflicted. Should i conjnue with the gamble or skip to sweet dreams? I like KA's voice as a writer which is important but if it isn't important to the plot I am not in for extraneous side stories. Does she do wide stories like virgin river or Troubleshooters or BDB? Or just different?

Leea what do you think of Wildman Creek so far? I am really liking it.

message 698: by Carina (new)

Carina I'll be starting Me Before You by Jojo Moyes after work today =)

message 699: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Stacia, yes, stay away from Tall, Dark, & Lonely. there was just too much ridiculous-ness going on.

So, I started Sempre by J.M. Darhower last night and I'm really liking it. The characters are all very interesting and I can't read fast enough.

message 700: by Leea (new)

Leea Kristen Ashley does do wide stories like Virgin River, the characters are connected but not so much with Max and Nina in The Gamble. Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck in set in another small town not far from Gnaw Bone. Max adn Nina make a small apearance but from Sweet Dreams on, KA has made a new set a characters, diverse and different.

Here is what I like about Kristen Ashley's Writing:
1. She takes women, leaves them alone and writes males who love real women.
2. Although, most of the males she writes are alpha they are also very sweet and just want to take care of their women.
3. Like Carr, Ashley is able to write female relationships very acuratly. In most of her books the women have a group of friends that they confide in, have drinks and make time for each other.
4. Each character has bagage. It's not pretty but it's real and how they work this out is facinating to me.

Should you skip The Gamble? that's up to you. You can skip it without missing much of the next storyline :)

In Sweet Dreams (Colorado Mountain, #2) by Kristen Ashley Lauren is 42, divorced and starting over. She has come to the conclusion that life has nothing special to offer her. She put he faith and love into a man who betrayed her. She comes to Carnal, Colorado to just be...

Sweet Dreams was my favorite in the series. Good Luck!
