Regina (reginar) So I wasn't able to start Wounded yet. I felt sick last night and laid in bed listening to my audio and finishing it Sweethearts by Sara Zarr then I spent almost an hour crying after I was done with that book. It really moved me.

message 6802: by Leea (new)

Leea Sounds like a moving book, Regina.

No worries Stacia. There I plenty to talk about with wounded.

I just bought this, Regina. I looked at it the other day and decided it was too much. But I love emotionally moving books, so it sounds like it's worth it.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Wounded by Jasinda Wilder and I may be in the minority here. There were parts that I liked and some, not so much. Leea & Stacia....how far are you in? Regina, are you still planning on reading this?

message 6805: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh, I feel like such a buddy read flake, but I may not read it now .......

message 6806: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Unless Stacia and Leea love it. LOL.

No worries about it. We all have been there. I can't wait to hear what Leea and Stacia think.

Oh I hope you enjoy it! Zarr's writing is so moving. Her endings are good, realistic but not a happily ever after. There is such beauty in what she is doing with this book. It is almost a fantasy -- what if a person you loved and missed from your past came back? Do you want that chance to just see them and be with them again?

message 6809: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Really enjoyed My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I've had that book forever Tellulah. I wanted to read it but their last name is my son's first name. Something about names throws me off sometimes.

I'm about halfway now and it's actually not that bad so far. I think I was expecting to not like it very much, so it's surpassing what I'd hoped. Although, I have a few random "huh?" thoughts here and there.

message 6811: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished Wounded by Jasinda Wilder , going to write my review... It was okay, I had a few issues and its going to be hard to put them into words for my review.

I'm going to start Hot Target (Troubleshooters, #8) by Suzanne Brockmann with Wendy, of course :) She's ahead of me so i'm going to catch up.

message 6812: by Angie Elle (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I'm going to pick up A Lady Awakened (Blackshear Family, #1) by Cecilia Grant again. Hopefully I can finish it soon.

Oh, I love 'What if' stories! The Family Man is one of my favorite movies. I just love that premise!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I take it back..Wounded is starting to crash and burn.

Whyyyy did I think it would be okay to read yet another hyped contemporary?

I debated on giving it 2 stars but I liked how Raina's life was portrayed but didn't like the execution of the romance.

message 6816: by Leea (new)

Leea Did you read the Marine recruitment video scene? lmao! I finally finished my review and I may have to edit it.

I cannot wait to read your review Stacia.

message 6817: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Great review, Leea! It must have slipped my mind about the recruitment video...i don't remember...but I agree with your review about how it felt like one sometimes. Can't wait for Stacia to finish so that we can talk about it.

message 6818: by Leea (new)

Leea You know when Hunter (view spoiler)

message 6819: by Leea (new)

Leea Sure... haha! Parts were not realistic. (view spoiler)

message 6820: by Leea (new)

Leea Yes, I thought the same thing.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Leea wrote: "Sure... haha! Parts were not realistic. [spoilers removed]"

Okay, I'd sort of peeked at a couple of the comments earlier but didn't want to look at too much for fear of repeating/copying someone else's thoughts in my review.

I am SO with you on that one though. It was a huge WTF for me.

What about the fact that (view spoiler)

I had to 2 star it and I was almost wanting to go down to 1 because I only really enjoyed the first few chapters and the very end, but I already met my ranty review quota for the month, so I kept it less ranty.

Sorry I dragged you guys into this one. The next time you see me wanting to push a super-hyped book for a buddy read, just shake me and tell me no.

This made me pause too, but since I know nothing about the military, I didn't feel like I could comment much about it.

Regina (reginar) Was the setting Iraq? Are there prostitutes? I thought I remembered reading that there are none in Afghanistan and Iraq but that was early in the wars like 2003. Maybe things changed but culturally it would very hard for prostitutes to exist wouldn't it?

message 6824: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Out of curiosity I started Wounded by Jasinda Wilder way too early this morning - -I was up, tired and couldn't go back to sleep. The story definitely pulled me in. I skimmed a lot and I don't think it is well written, but she had a good idea. Too bad it wasn't edited more. Knowing it falls apart, I likely won't continue.

I jumped on the bandwagon and bought this, too. Now I'm thinking maybe I should return it.

message 6826: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Love Bomb by Lisa Zeidner A fun fast read about a hostage taking at a wedding. But more lighthearted than not.

Courtney | 337 comments I'm reading The Ruins of Ambrai (Exiles, #1) by Melanie Rawn . It's very long!

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina wrote: "Was the setting Iraq? Are there prostitutes? I thought I remembered reading that there are none in Afghanistan and Iraq but that was early in the wars like 2003. Maybe things changed but culturally..."

Yes, the setting is Iraq. there are no other prostitutes in the story nor does she have a pimp. Her clients just show up at her house to exchange money for sex. She does this from the first Gulf War to the 2nd.

message 6830: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Double Clutch (Brenna Blixen, #1) by Liz Reinhardt which was okay for a indie YA. Not sure what to read next and I don't know what mood I'm in.

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday.

I just looked this up on Wiki and thought this was interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitu...

Thanks Kay! I am at the part where (view spoiler)

message 6832: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments That's interesting, Regina...especially how it says that women are exploited mainly from the wealthy. The story didn't mention any wealthy as the girl's clients.

Regina, you are at the parts that are still interesting. So, you decided that you will continue reading this book?

message 6833: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I likely will continue until I feel like it is silly. Just reading the beginning makes me feel like this was a huge missed opportunity.

I thought it was interesting that the private contractors in Iraq brought in foreign prostitutes.

message 6834: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I guess I mean b/c it is an interesting story but it is not that well written but I think it could have been better with an editor and maybe more beta readers -- and if she consulted with military people (considering your comments above).

message 6835: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Yes...the foreign prostitutes. That's interesting too.

I did like the whole premise of the book and really enjoyed the background of Raina and all that she went through. You are so right about the writing. If she had the right tools, the execution could have been so much better.

message 6836: by Leea (new)

Leea I remember hearing that countries with the sticktest sexual norms like Iraq have the most prostitution.

I'm loving Hot Target (Troubleshooters, #8) by Suzanne Brockmann ... I'm half way through and I cannot wait to finish a few things so I can continue reading. I love Jules! I love Cosmo and Jane!

message 6837: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oh man, it was so good! I think it was up there as one of my favorites.

message 6838: by Regina (last edited Jan 26, 2013 04:20PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Mine too. :) What do you think of Jules, Wendy? I love the new side to Cosmo. The end is so damned (view spoiler)

ETA Wendy don't read the spoiler. I thought you were finished. Only click if you finished. Yikes.

message 6839: by Leea (new)

Leea Crap crapity crap!! You two are killing me. I want to finish so bad... damn life obligations.

message 6840: by Gwennie (last edited Jan 26, 2013 04:34PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oh, I'm totally done, don't worry, hahaha. I couldn't put it down. I just haven't updated my review yet.

I LOOVED Jules! (view spoiler)

I loved Cosmo!!!! The other side of him was so sweet. I loved how he was really very tender and romantic. AND, I've been begging for a slow going romance where they were happy to just fall in love with each other, and the drama is from outside influence and not from their own stubbornness. She finally gave me what I'd been asking for, and it was perfect. I really do think it was up there as one of my favorites, if not my total favorite so far.

The end was (view spoiler).

(Sorry Leea!!!!)

Leea

I dying on the inside...

message 6842: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LMAOOOOO!

Wendy I agree .... maybe for Leea's sanity I should wait to comment, lol.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Leea....hahaha.

message 6844: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) hahahahaha, okay, that works. I don't want to break Leea's heart like that. ;)

message 6845: by Leea (last edited Jan 26, 2013 04:59PM) (new)

Leea off to the store... Dang Garrett's birthday party tomorrow is cutting into my lazy reading time.

Go ahead... i'm now determined to finish this tonight.

message 6846: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahahaha! Text me when you do.

message 6847: by Leea (new)

Leea You know I will. The whole time. Lol!!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahaha! I can't wait to see what you think.

message 6849: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I'm also going to start reading Three Days to Dead (Dreg City, #1) by Kelly Meding since the other book is so long. I figured that I would need breaks.

Hahaha Leea, I LOVE other parents who get resentful of losing reading time for things like bday parties. :)
