I plan on finishing it. I will start back up once I am done with the other book. I am relieved to know that it gets better. Thanks

I hope it's good. I just bought one of the 'Pennyroyal Green' books on sale for $.99. Then I realized it was the fifth one. LOL I'm going to have to buy the rest of them, as I can't possibly read a series out of order. LOL

Alexandra J (grneyedwhttiger) Just finished reading The Lady Most Willing... A Novel in Three Parts by Julia Quinn .. it was wonderful! I couldn't put it down and ended up not sleeping last night. The characters are funny, witty and charming; I didn't want it to end!

I put that on my TBR list. I love all those authors so I am excited to read it!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Just finished Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1) by Christina Lauren and all I can say is no. Just no. It was pretty bad.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Loved your review Stacia. I will most likely stay away from that book.

I finished Bonds of Justice (Psy-Changeling, #8) by Nalini Singh which was okay. I really missed the changlings so I might pick up the next book soon.

SO glad to get the warning ahead of time... so many bad, bad, bad books will be trying to take advantage of the 50 Shades hype. UGH! Just hope the fad passes quickly; there's a difference between a STORY that includes some hot, steamy scenes and just plain TRASH! Will the publishers and authors ever get the message?

Speaking of hot, going back into the Jennifer Ashley Mackenzie series for the latest, "The Seduction of Elliot MacBride". Elliot is Ashley's brother (Cameron's wife)... not quite sure why we're delving into the MacBride stuff before we've finished with Daniel MacKenzie, but... love this series!

BTW, one of my regular Oscar party attenders had the NERVE to suggest a 50 Shades theme for this year's gala. HUH? She didn't read the books, and I truly think she was just kidding, but still... YIKES! I almost struck her permanently off my invite list just for the suggestion! (My Oscar parties are very exclusive, so that would be almost too cruel a punishment for her laughing joke. Still, I considered it!)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Hope everyone has a happy New Year!

message 6416: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Happy New Year everyone! We rang in the new year with friends and their kids.

I'm currently reading You Had Me At Hello by Mhairi McFarlane . I'm in my british chick lit mood.

message 6417: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I haven't been able to read in so long. Hopefully tomorrow on my way to work. I don't know how you ladies who stay home find time to read! The holidays and my kids won't give me anytime. And I have been watching some movies with the hubs.

message 6418: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina, I tend to find crazy hours to read. I have problems sleeping sometimes so you'll find me waking up at 2am and reading until 5! Or I'll wake up at 4am and read until I have to get ready for work. Any way to sneak in reading, I'll do it since my kids are so needy! LOL

message 6419: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Mine are too, lol! :D That is a great plan to sneak in time.

message 6420: by Leea (new)

Leea I haven't read in a few days, it's been non stop action. We have my MIl and niece here, went to a 49er game, bowling and now were going up to the snow.

I'm excited for everything to go back to normal next Monday!

message 6421: by Candy (new)

Candy (candylou41088) | 2 comments I am reading Amber Moon (Moon Trilogy, Part 2) by C. L. Bevill. Its good so, First one was better. Always have time to read. My favorite hobby. Been trying to go see Breaking Dawn 2, but its only playing at 8:45 pm & don't want to see a movie that late. Guess I'll wait for the DVD or until its On Demand. Maybe it will be on during the day, early afternoon this year. Its better at the movies though. Bigger screen. Happy 2013 to everyone.

message 6423: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished Monday Mornings by Sanjay Gupta by Sanjay Gupta yesterday morning. I really enjoyed this novel. It is actually very similar to ER. At times during reading this book, I did feel like I was reading an ER script just with different characters! The plot was interesting, gripping, well-developed and well-written. The medical lingo was easy to understand. The characters were interesting, vivid and well-developed. My only gripe about this novel was that I would have liked to learn more about what happened to the characters at the end of the novel.
My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Now I'm a few chapters into What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty by Liane Moriarty. Great book so far!

D.G. Happy New Year, everybody! Hope all your wishes will come true in 2013. For my part, I need to start looking for a new job.

Already finished my first book of the year:
Lord Edgware Dies (Hercule Poirot, #8) by Agatha Christie as part of my Agatha Christie re-read. I also started Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher (I like the world but not the 'need the woman to live' business...I don't like plots where men don't have a choice) and All the Queen's Men (John Medina, #2) by Linda Howard (going great so far.)

D.G. Leea wrote: "Anyone have any fun plans for tonight? DG do you go out in the madness in NYC?"

I haven't gone out to the City for New Years Eve in at least 8 years but I've never been to Times Square that day (when I started dating my husband, he informed me that was for tourists...that 'real' New Yorkers don't do that, LOL!)

As usual, I went to my family's party (they always have one) and stayed until 2am. We had a good time alhtough people seemed to be in a weird mood. Not as as festive as past years.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I'm reading Rock Me (Ross Siblings, #2) by Cherrie Lynn and loving every page of it!

I finished A Rogue by Any Other Name (The Rules of Scoundrels, #1) by Sarah MacLean this morning, and it wasn't as good as I had been expecting.

message 6427: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jan 01, 2013 05:35PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It's been a while since I've read a Christie book, but I'd like to check her out again sometime. Speaking of, I keep forgetting to go back to Guild Wars. The first was decent, so I really should.

Angie, I ended up liking the HR, but remember that it took forever to get into and that it seemed overyped. I liked the second book SO much better though and loved the female lead because she was so quirky.

But yay for Rock Me! I love Brian.

That's what I figured. Hahaha!

We stayed in and relaxed with the kids, I went to bed at 11pm. Party Animal!!

I want to read Beautiful Creatures before the movie comes out in March (I believe). I haven't read a work in the last 4 days, so my hope is to read something tomorrow. Not sure what to start with? Maybe, Rebirth (Aftertime, #2) by Sophie Littlefield

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Just finished Kitchen Confidential Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly by Anthony Bourdain and it was amusing, but I had been hoping for more dirt on the scary food side of the culinary world, as well getting to see more of AB's constant jabs at celebrity chefs.

Finally hitting a good stride in Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi and about to start Stolen Nights (Vampire Queen, #2) by Rebecca Maizel

message 6430: by Regina (last edited Jan 02, 2013 02:27PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Read Rebirth!

I am loving White Noise by Don DeLillo it is a satire on modern life, but it is making me laugh out loud at parts.

I am doing a re-read of another Harry Dresden book by listening and I am loving it Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5) by Jim Butcher

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You'll have to let me know what you think of that one Angie. I got a copy back when it was pre-release but shied away from it because it seemed like the 50 billionth FSOG imitator. If it's any good, I might give it a look.

Finished Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi and I'm having a serious fangirl moment. I haven't enjoyed a dystopia this much since Unraveling. And Perry...I'm in love. He can talk to me about menstruation any time.

message 6434: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn (caitlynj) I have been re-reading Unholy Ghosts with a friend over the past week or two, I realised the second time round as I was reading some of it aloud just how convulted some of the characters speak. I still like it though it just makes it hard to flow when you need to repeat yourself/translate the street slang.
Must find something good to read tonight, it's going to be too hot to sleep, it's still 25C at 10:30PM. I get so picky and end up starting several books in an evening.

message 6435: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I love that aspect of Unholy Ghosts. Especially because it's how they speak in downside, so in that world it's their version of slang.

I'm sure it's as convoluted to us as our street slang is right now to others in the world.

It lent the story some realism to me. The likelihood is there would be a modified new way that the speek in less educated parts of that world. It was cool. I want a shirt that says, "Right up, Chessiebomb. True Thing." Lmao!

It was pretty good. Not as good as 3 or 4, but good.

message 6439: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am so irritated at myself. We got a new computer because our old one died, wouldn't sync with itunes and is unreliable. So I synced my iphone with itunes -- I read all the how tos and was promised that nothing would be taken off my iphone even though itunes asks if it can erase and sync -- apple promises that it doesn't really mean erase. Well guess what - -it does mean erase. Yes my contacts, apps, calendar and emails stayed on my iphone but my music and audio books were gone. I had already migrated my itunes library over to my new computer, so putting on the music was easy, but I had deleted my audiobook already. I was only 1 hour from finishing my re-read of Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5) by Jim Butcher and I know what happens but damn that is frustrating.

So now I am listening to Fly on the Wall How One Girl Saw Everything by E. Lockhart which is good but short (only about 5 hours), I think it involves a Kafka-esqu transformation of the high school girl/main character into a fly so she can be on the wall in the boys' locker room ... I am guessing but not there yet.

I am still reading White Noise by Don DeLillo which is a modern American literary classic. And it sounds boring but it is not, it is a satire so the characters do and say crazy stuff but there is incredible insight in the book. Much of it makes me laugh and then other parts make me think. The main character fears death in a very intense way and the novel is about him trying to avoid death at all costs.

Maybe that is my problem. I read the first 2 back to back and waited for the 3rd. Loved them all. Then waited and waited for the 4th. I did like it. But the 5th wasn't holding me. One day I shall return. :)

I skimmed it all the way to the end. It was OK. I'm torn between two and three stars. I'll know better when I read it word for word all the way through, but once again there are too many similarities to FSoG. The writing, in my opinion, was much better. And the h was much more interesting in this one.

message 6444: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm reading All the Queen's Men (John Medina, #2) by Linda Howard and this is romantic suspense exactly how it was meant to be. Lots of action and with a great plot that doesn't seem silly or contrived. And so far the hero has had like a million grueling workouts. Finally a book where a man keeps in shape by actually exercising and not by drinking or sitting at a desk!!!

message 6445: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Ah Regina! Something similar happened to me when I had to reformat my iPod. In a sense though I'm glad because I've had audiobooks for far too long in there so now I only have a few that I'm planning to listen soon. :)

Leea Reading funk... I can't seem to pick up a book. I just have decorating on the brain and since my husband doesn't go back to work till monday, i've got a hell of a list for him to do. He's not complaining just asking what's next so I keep piling it on him. hehe!

Yesterday, he painted our half bath (includes patching all the holes from all the fixtures) had to take out a mirror. He woke up with the kids this morning and hung the new valance and put some of the new fixtures in the blinds. Tomorrow all the rest of the fixtures will be here and then I can hang all the new pictures and nick nacks I have picked out.

I love the new paint color, Bonsai... it's a light gray.
