Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I liked ODS, but wasn't wowed by it the way so many other people seemed to be. It was a hot romance, but it didn't stand out for me as being anything spectacular in the story department. I think people were taken with Braden's accent or something.

You might really like it though, since other than Leea and I, almost everyone else loooooved the book.

I told my husband that if he'd ever proposed to me in public, I would have said no.

It's supposed to be a romantic moment not something for the world to dissect! And what a way to put the woman on the spot! And anyways, just because a woman is in love with you doesn't mean that she would accept a marriage proposal, specially when you don't know her thoughts on religion, money and kids.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished reading Harriet by Jilly Cooper and it's a very outdated book.

I just started The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski .

Also, Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee paperback is only $1.75 on Amazon! I just bought a copy since I only have the ebook. I would buy more to give to people for Christmas presents but I don't have any friends who read and appreciate such a badass book.

message 5904: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh wow! What a steal!

message 5905: by Leea (new)

Leea Hey Kay!! Did you wash away today? Haha! Crazy rain out there.

D.G. Yeah, public proposals are not cool plus things can go so wrong if you're not careful. haha! My brother proposed to his current wife while all of us were in Tahoe sledding - it was uncomfortable. At least I was there to take pictures but it seemed like I was invading their privacy.

message 5906: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea...it's is raining crazy here but finally clearing up this afternoon. We still have a couple more days of this and another storm coming in on Sunday. My poor kids...they will be playing indoors.

DG...it is a steal! I feel like I should buy more copies just because the book is so good.

message 5907: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I love reading chats by you ladies. :)

Guess what so tonight, yes again, I am doing a sleep study (for real) with Natalia. So I will be up all night. Ugh. Look for my posts. Then Monday Sebastian has his tonsils out and depending on the results of this study, Natalia has her's out on Tuesday.

I think I may be multiple paper copies. There is sex in this book right -- or perhaps some sort of allusion to it at the club toward the end? I am trying to think if it is appropriate for a 13 year old.

message 5908: by D.G. (new)

D.G. No, there's no sex. I think it's appropriate for a 13 year old. I think all it mentions is her being hot and bothered but nothing else.

message 5909: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Wow...you have a busy few days ahead of you, Regina! keep us up to date on everything.

You're right, the sex is alluded but no full details about it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Aw, Regina, that really sucks.

The club scene was sort of talking about how the women were there to be whored out for the angels. Not sure if you think that's okay or not.

I think we talked about this before, but I'm very hyped about the upcoming Angelfall movie.

message 5911: by Leea (new)

Leea Good luck Regina!

I've been so forgetful today... I had to go back home a few times and now I've forgotten my jacket. Lol! Thank good was the rain stopped.

My husband comes and with me to get our youngest from preschool only to have his teacher say, "Mr. Jim, Garrett said you would sing the song for his Lovey (it was being your bear to class day). I get bright red but my husband steps right in front on the class, picks up Garrett, who has this ear to ear grin and sings this silly song. Lol! It was amazing!! God I love that man!

D.G. Aww Leea! That's so cute. You have to give it to men. They are not self conscious!

message 5913: by D.G. (new)

D.G. So the cable of my Bose headphones got messed up and the left ear fell off and my husband couldn't put them back on. Then he was like...just get a new pair! I wasn't too keen on that as they cost $350 but my husband pushed and pushed until I gave in! I just hate spending money if I think I can get by with the old stuff but I've been hearing a funny noise on the headphones for a few months already so maybe it was time.

Adorable on the singing husband! Lol

Regina (reginar) That is super sweet Leea. :) I am so sorry your headphones broke DG! That is frustrating. I like my LG ones, they are not noise cancelling though.

It wasn't too bad last night, not ideal -- but not bad. I slept about 4 hours, which is more than i expected and I came home and slept about 3 more. now we are off to lunch at an old style Italian store. The time up last night helped me put a dent in my Dresden book which I am loving.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Interesting thing about headphones...I've been looking for a new pair, and there are hardly any stores which have a decent selection of headphones that you can try on and actually listen to something. We've tried Best Buy and a few other stores, but they only have a few pairs out on display. You think that this would be something that you could play around with to see if you like it.

I'm trying to find a pair of headphones that won't disturb others when you have the sound cranked up, yet it still needs to be comfortable (I have a small head and most headphones don't fit right on me). I understand that I might have to pay more than a hundred bucks for a pair if I want them to last (I go through a cheap 20 dollar pair of headphones every year), but I also don't want to fork out that much money for something without trying it out first because I'm not used to making expensive purchases like this and want to get my money's worth.

Anyway, back to reading. Working on Checkmate (A Neighbor from Hell, #3) by R.L. Mathewson and Kiss of Frost (Mythos Academy, #2) by Jennifer Estep . Had to put that historical on hold for a minute because it wasn't grabbing me.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Is anyone else who was going to start the second Julie James ready yet, or should I move on to something else?

message 5921: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments @Regina,
i think the Blacktop series has better story lines cause the couples have real life issues. i related more to the characters. the stories are with couples so far and i think really good.
the Rough Riders are good too. it took the 2nd book for me to get in the series. there was more story line after book 1. this series is more menage, so the relationships aren't traditional. they are also more on the rode in this series doing the rodeo thing. in Blacktop ur reading about people in this small community, which is nice.
they are both great series' to read, it just depends on what u want to read more. a good quick sexy ride (Rough Riders) or a good sexy ride with more relationship development with a HEA (Blacktop).

message 5922: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thanks Domino. It took until book 3 or 4 for me to get into RR, which I like now (I have read through 6). I think I have #1 in Blacktop, I need to see if I do. :)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments ur very welcome Regina. u may be like me and enjoy the Blacktop better. most people like RR better, i've found. it really depends on the characters and the story line i think.
i hope u have the 1st Blacktop. it's a good read =)

Regina (reginar) I can't request the paperbacks of these books. I live in a town that is open minded but very small and community orientated like Mayberry - all the holds are displayed up front with our names on it -- right next to all my neighbors, lol.

That works for me. I have plenty to read until then. I just read a sample of a Julianne MacLean Highlander novel, and it was so good I think I'm going to have to buy it!

My husband had been insisting on getting me Bose headphones for a year before I got them but I didn't think I needed them. It wasn't until I tried one in the airport in London that I realized how good they sounded and what a difference they made. Then he got me one for my birthday and I loved being able to listen to audiobooks in the subway again (the NYC subway is old and so freaking loud!) I'm back listening to audiobooks because of those headphones.

I'm sort of bummed out that they only lasted two years given how expensive they are, but I'm a very heavy user so I guess I shouldn't complain - on average, I wear them at least 3 hours a day and I wear them almost like ear warmers so they are exposed to the elements. My husband (who's very analytic) just said: they cost around 50 cents a day for the time you had them. :)

So yes, trying expensive headphones is important!

message 5931: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am constantly having to pause my audiobooks as I walk through downtown Chicago because of the El going by overhead (I don't listen on the train), so I sympathize!

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Leea wrote: "Oh you'll have to let me know how that highlander book is?"

Yes, I'll let you know. It won't be for a bit, though, because they had the entire trilogy available through interlibrary loan. I decided to go that route as they were $7.99 each for the Kindle versions. It will be a bit before they get here.

That's why the Bose headphones are so worth the price for me even if they are so expensive. Well, at least I was able to save $75 on the price because I used the points on my credit card. :)

Leea My husband has those beats by dr. Dre headphones and loves them. Es like you, DG uses them a few hrs a day at the gym. Does suck how things don't last as much as try used to.

Regina (reginar) Okay, I think I just swooned. I am listening to Dream Lake (Friday Harbor, #3) by Lisa Kleypas , here is the quote (DG I am sure you remember it:

“Zoe gave him a look that was difficult to interpret. Eventually she asked, "What makes you sure I couldn't handle you?"
She didn't know what she was asking for, from a man who couldn't remember what it was like to be innocent. Lightly gripping her hair, Alex forced her face close to his. The blond curls danced around his fingers and tickled the backs of his hands. " I 'm a bastard in bed, Zoe," he said quietly. " I 'm selfish and mean as the devil. I have to have all the control. And I 'm...not nice”

I finished The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski which I thought was okay. I think I will pick up Wallbanger by Alice Clayton next. It's another Twilight Fanfic but I really liked her Redhead series which surprisingly was fanfic too.

Kay, i'm excited to see what you think of Wallbanger, that book is going around GR.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'll be interested to see what you think of Wallbanger. I keep seeing it everywhere but for some reason, am afraid to read it. The Redhead series was so much fun, that I'm almost afraid of Wallbanger being too similar and not being as enjoyable.

Finished Kiss of Frost (Mythos Academy, #2) by Jennifer Estep and really liked it. The books are fluffy and repetitive, but a lot of fun. I haven't had a silly little swoony crush on anyone in a story like this since Dimitri.
