Regina (reginar) I got burnt out on series that I had been reading for awhile around that time (early June) and that is when my husband was injured and the work issues arose -- so it was likely all related to that. I just never returned. I need to - -I think it was Chasing Magic (Downside Ghosts, #5) by Stacia Kane

message 5402: by Leea (new)

Leea How is your husband doing now?

message 5403: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenndiaz16) | 8 comments Building From Ashes Started reading this on Tuesday... Love this orginial series and so far this book is just a great!

message 5404: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea thanks for asking. He is fully mobile, can ride a bike now, can walk, is still in PT twice a week. He no longer needs any ibuprofin, but he still has pain every night and he can't run yet or jump with the "injured" leg. He should be there in a few months though. Where we are now compared with 3-4 months ago is amazing. I am so proud of how he has pushed himself, but I never expected any less. :)

message 5405: by Leea (new)

Leea That's great!! I'm so glad you have him almost back to normal and able to help with the kids.

Her drug use is one of the things that bothered me most in the book. I am not sure I can handle it getting worse. I do love Terrible though. I will keep reading. It just won't be a priority for me.

It is a huge relief.

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I am glad your husband is recovering from his injury Regina. I am sure it feels like a big weight has been lifted from your shoulders.

Regina (reginar) It does!! Thank you Marcella.

How are you liking this? This author has been a hit or miss for me.

It sounds like he is recovering nicely. I hope the stress of the situation has lessened for you.

Her drug problem only gets worse and she constantly makes bad decisions. So, if this bothers you, you may not like the rest of the series. What did you think of Downside and the slang?

message 5414: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Geez...that does not fill me with confidence Kay to continue the series. I will give it a shot.

I had a very hard time following the Downside slang. Wow those people are really uneducated.

message 5415: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished reading Forgotten by Catherine McKenzie . It was a fun chick lit.

message 5416: by Courtney (last edited Oct 25, 2012 01:50PM) (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Kay - So far, it's pretty funny. I'm getting a lot of laughs from it. I loved the first book I read by Victoria Dahl. I think it was Talk Me Down. This one is moving a little fast, though, on the romance.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Regina, I'm glad to hear that at least some progress is being made.

Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters is good so far. I'm so hoping that the book stays good throughout!

As for Downside, the drug use didn't bother me (I really get tired of perfect characters in books...people have a multitude of problems, we don't all have it together), but I still have yet to go back and finish book 1.

Talk Me Down is the one that I liked too. I'll look forward to your rating.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I love flawed characters too, Stacia.

message 5420: by Leea (new)

Leea We'll all have to read the second book together, I liked the humor in Talk me Down.

message 5421: by Leea (new)

Leea I loved how damaged and flawed Chess was. Her spiral into more drug use was hard to read mainly because of what she was doing to those she loves and love her.

I would keep reading Marcella there is so much more to this series than the drug use.

message 5422: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea wrote: "We'll all have to read the second book together, I liked the humor in Talk me Down."

I did read the 2nd book.... Start Me Up (Tumble Creek, #2) by Victoria Dahl and thought it was okay. I also tried Good Girls Don't (Donovan Brothers Brewery, #1) by Victoria Dahl which was okay too.

message 5423: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Stacy...I wasn't offended by her drug use and I actually prefer flawed characters, but I felt the author reflected too much on her drud addiction. I guess I was just expecting that even though she was flawed she would still be extraordinary. She seemed so weak as a character.

message 5424: by Marcella (last edited Oct 25, 2012 08:42PM) (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Currently reading Games of the Heart (The 'Burg, #4) by Kristen Ashley ...well after the Vampire Diaries is over anyways. I have been looking forward to this one.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished Desires of the Dead (The Body Finder, #2) by Kimberly Derting and really enjoyed it. I agree with the people who said that the first one was better because the first one was much more creepy, but this one felt less angsty in the romance department, so it was a tradeoff. Either way, I regret waiting a year to read book 2. I won't wait as long to read book 3 for sure. :)

message 5426: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I'm really liking Crazy For Love by Victoria Dahl right now. The sex scene is too good!

i'm loving Marcella. and i was a bit surprised about how dominant Gavin is. he didn't seem that way in bk1. nice surprise =D and i like Liz. can understand her hesitation for a relationship.

message 5429: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Has anyone else read Seven Sexy Sins by Serenity Woods ? Going in, I was very excited. I love books about friends who see each other in a new way, especially when its a "best friend of my brother" kind of deal. And yes, it was steamy, but I was missing the sense of growing tension and awareness. Tonally, I thought the book was all over the place. Either way too easy between them or major issues combined with on the nose and PC dialogue. Guess, I just wanted to like it more.

message 5430: by Leea (new)

Leea I put Special Forces - Mercenaries Part I (Special Forces, #2 part 1) by Marquesate on hold... so I started Games of the Heart (The 'Burg, #4) by Kristen Ashley

message 5431: by Regina (last edited Oct 28, 2012 12:26PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I haven't read it tellulah. Force of Nature (Troubleshooters, #11) by Suzanne Brockmann does the theme of sister of a best friend really well. I love that series but Force of nature is a favorite of mine.

Sorry, my iphone -- it should have said -- I love that series, but Force of Nature is an alltime favorite of mine from that series.

message 5434: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I finished the audio of Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter and I gave it 3.5 stars. I liked it enough to continue on to the next book, some time -- not enough to race to it.

Also for bingo, I just started the audio of Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, #1) by C.E. Murphy -- it is just okay so far.

message 5435: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Regina - Those two books I used to have on my to-read list so I'm looking forward to what you have to say about Urban Shaman.

I finished Crazy For Love by Victoria Dahl . It was a pretty quick read and had some good moments, though the plot was a little farfetched.

Don't know what to read next! But that's the best part about reading, I guess :P

message 5436: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I've been in a chick lit mood these past few days. I finished Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan and now I'm reading Dixieland Sushi by Cara Lockwood .

If anyone has any suggestions for some decent chick lit (not contemporary romance), please let me know.

message 5437: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Those are the cutest covers. I don't know much chic lit -- sorry.

I am not enjoying Urban Shaman. I might have maybe 3-4 years ago. But I am not now.

message 5438: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I think I'm going to try and finish The Stranger I Married by Sylvia Day . I'm realizing that I tend to not reach for my historical romance books that I haven't read yet. I guess I feel like they're all the same.

message 5439: by Megan (new)

Megan | 135 comments Finished The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor, #2) by Jill Shalvis . Currently reading Forever and a Day (Lucky Harbor, #6) by Jill Shalvis .

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished Rebel Heart (Dust Lands, #2) by Moira Young and it was decent. I didn't warm up to it until closer to the end, but I'm on the hook for book 3 now.

Almost finished with Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters and started The Prince (The Original Sinners, #3) by Tiffany Reisz

message 5441: by Leea (last edited Oct 30, 2012 10:16PM) (new)

Leea Finished Games of the Heart (The 'Burg, #4) by Kristen Ashley and I loved it!

Now life has taken over and i'm so busy, not sure what to read next.

I want to read Iced (Dani O'Malley, #1) by Karen Marie Moning but I wonder if I should reread the Fever series before reading it? Thoughts?

Happy Halloween everyone! Do you have any special plans or traditions for Halloween?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm not re-reading Fever because there are more Fever books to come, and I know I'll want to re-read the entire series to bring it all together before the last book (same as I'll do with BDB). Re-reading in the middle of a series makes less sense to me, but I know a lot of people who are doing it, so what do I know? :p

Finished Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters and The Prince (The Original Sinners, #3) by Tiffany Reisz and really enjoyed both of them, but especially The Prince because it was crazy.

Starting Iced (Dani O'Malley, #1) by Karen Marie Moning now and will probably get to The Secret of Ella and Micha (The Secret, #1) by Jessica Sorensen before diving back into some YA. 4 adult books in a row, haven't done that in a while!

Regina (reginar) Sorry to be MIA I am really sick. Bleh - strep.

message 5444: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm so sorry Regina, strep us the worst. Hope you feel better soon and take care of yourself.

message 5445: by Leea (new)

Leea Stacia, I guess if I've forgotten something I can just ask :) thanks for reminding me there will be more Fever books, how could I have forgotten that. Haha!

message 5446: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Feel better, Regina. Does this mean you're home & will have time to read? Are the kids in school?

I want to read Iced too. I won't be re-reading any Fever books though. I wonder if there's a wiki page that summarizes everything that has happened so far.

Hope everyone has a Happy Halloween!

message 5447: by Leea (new)

Leea If you find a wiki page, pass it along please. Haha!!

What are the boys dressing up as?

message 5448: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Ethan, the 5 yr old, is dressing up as a Ninja. And Tyler, the baby, will be a cozy giraffe. What about your boys?

message 5449: by Megan (new)

Megan | 135 comments Finished Forever and a Day (Lucky Harbor, #6) by Jill Shalvis . Currently reading Big Sky Mountain (Swoon-Worthy Cowboys #2) by Linda Lael Miller .

message 5450: by Leea (new)

Leea My Ethan (Who will be 7 tomorrow - crazy!) is going to be Iron Man and Garrett is the Hulk. I hope they don't want to trick or treat for too long. Last year we did like 20 min and then headed back to our court where the kids played and the parents drank and chatted.

I have so much to do today that I was up at 5:20 because my mind was working. Ugh!!
