Littlemann | 12 comments This book was published before 1997 or 98
it was in a middle school library
set back in prehistoric times, I think the end of an iceage- I believe it was the first in a series.
Title was something like Shanna - Showna
cover had a girl in animal skins kneeling on a large rock
Story line
The main girl (Shanna) was orphaned, she was almost an apprentice of the Old Shaman Lady
Shanna was kidnapped from her village, I cant remember why. When she was in the new village they became scared of her for some reason and they tried to stone her.
A boy from her village who cares for her tries to track her.
After she gets away from the stoning, I think because there was a stampede of some sorts. She ends up with another kind of people, I think they would equate to Neanderthals. What ever they were they were feared by the others of her kind but she was friends with them and had spent time with them in the past.
In the end she is back in her village, the boy too and she is planning to continue to learn to be a shaman.
If anyone has any ideas, I did like this as a child and I wanted to get it for my little cousins.
Thank you for your time.

Just so you know, this is the right series but I am not sure which book of the 3 I read. I will have to look in to it more.

Cheryl (cherylllr) I shelved it - it's interesting, because it's already been somebody's mystery book before. So now there are two threads in its 'about' section.
