So glad to have gotten you something Barbara :)

I wish I could do this again! I LOVE giving out prizes!!
I fear my "student life" won't let me :(

What did you get?

Lu, I really enjoyed the challenge even if I didn't win so you gave more than a physical prize!

Oh sorry, totally forgot to tell you guys. I only decided what I would like last Sunday and Lu ordered it immediately. So somewhere in the next couple of weeks I should get: Confessions of a Prairie Bitch How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated by Alison Arngrim
This is a book I really wanted but never bought, because I had to buy other books first so I could use them in challenges. So I used this opportunity to finally get this book. I can't wait for it to get to me and read it.

I too enjoyed this challenge and "winning" the lotery at the end was only making a wonderfull challenge even better. I would love to do this challenge again and no prize is needed. I just loved the way this challenge worked.

Guys, I got my book on Friday and I already read it and it was a great book! If there are more fans of Little House on the Prairy in our group: this is a definite must read!

I don't think we ever got that TV show in South Africa. We only got TV in 1976 and from what I can gather from my parent it was very limited!

Weird that you got TV that late. And by that time this series was already running. I grew up on it and it is still being broadcast in the Netherlands today. There is always one channel or another that shows the reruns. I used to love it and I have read the original books by Laura Ingalls Wilder on which it was based.
It also has made a big impact on me, because my dad is this big tough guy and I have only seen him cry a couple of times. Once was when his mum/my grandmother died. The other times were when he watched/watches this series.

My parents moved to SA because of TV. Dad worked for BBC and came to SA to help start TV. He actually pushed the button that turned TV on in Port Elizabeth before moving to Joburg where most of the production work happened. He worked for SABC for many years in various different areas, including being involved with filming sports and live shows at times.

Oh shame that's so sweet bout your dad! I think the whole late arrival of TV had a lot to do with Apartheid and the government wanting to control the media!

I'm old enough to vaguely remember it being on TV here in the late 1970's, but it's never been that big. I read all the books as well and loved them.

Wow Varla that is so interesting! Your dad is a little piece a history, I find that sort of thing so facinating :) I'm going to call my mom today and ask her what TV shows were on in 1976. I can only remember The A Team, Air Wolfe and Knight Rider era :)

Nikki Meyer | 15 comments Little House on the Prairie was on TV in SA back in the day, and even had a few reruns. I didn't watch much though, because my dad resisted having a TV in the house - too scared it would break up family time. My mom eventually went out and hired one while he was away on a fishing trip, so that we could all watch Princess Diana & Prince Charles getting married in 1981. My dad was VERY unhappy when he got home, but the contract was signed. Now he's the one glued to the box: sport, sport and more sport!

I just remember being SO excited when my dad finally relented and said we could get M-net! How pitiful that seems now with all our DSTV channels. But at the time it was the best day ever!! Our neighbors even came round to watch lol!

We always signed up for new developments in TV pretty quickly. Dad claimed it was work related so he had to have MNet and then DSTV a soon as possible.

The interesting side note is that while I have a TV it is not connected to any aerial or dish at all. I watch from DVD or hard drive only!

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
I'm such a TV addict we don't even need a TV guide in our house everyone can just ask me! But I do find that I am watching more and more on my computer and less on the actual TV. It's hard to believe watching TV is becoming even more anti social!!
