Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments I should've started this thread a while ago! Time for April Nominations. Rules are as usual - Check bookshelf for books we've already read, book must be first in series unless we've already read the first, authors cannot nominate their own books, all nominations need a second. Hope I didn't forget anything!

EDIT: Of course I did forget to say please provide a link for the book!

message 2: by Max (new)

Max Any special Theme this time, or just about anything?
Oh well. Let's try Graceling again, shall we?

message 3: by Mare (new)

Mare (mare_1503) I second Graceling =)Graceling

message 4: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I just finished After the Golden Age by Carrie Vaughn by Carrie Vaughn last night. It was an incredible read! Fast paced, highly readable, but with a very thoughtful and touching undertone. I'd love to discuss it with you all.

Seconder?

message 5: by Ben (new)

Ben (bstanley52) I'll nominate The Dragon's Path by Daniel Abraham again as I am really excited about this book. I've heard a lot of great things about this series and want to make sure that others get to read it too.

message 6: by Kari (new)

Kari Graceling sounds good.

I nominate The Traitor's Daughter though. (1st in the series and the 2nd comes out soon)

message 7: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) I'll second The Traitor's Daughter i haven't read it but it sounds good

message 8: by Ysmalan (new)

Ysmalan I nominate Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin. Had it on my shelf for ages!

message 9: by Anna-louise (last edited Feb 16, 2012 06:03AM) (new)

Anna-louise | 81 comments Dragons of Autumn Twilight
I was recommended this by my good friend Martin and i really would like to read it, so i'd like to nominate it :)

message 10: by Cindy (last edited Feb 16, 2012 06:12AM) (new)

Cindy I want to nominate "The Steel Queen (The Silk & Steel Saga)" by Karen Azinger. Such a great story! The Steel Queen

message 11: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I'll nominate The Desert of Souls by Howard Andrew Jones -- finely crafted sword and sorcery in a historical Arabian setting.

message 12: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'll nominate Donnerjack by Roger Zelazny & Jane Lindskold. It's an interesting blend of fantasy & SF, but mostly the former, set in a virtual world that leaks into our real one sometime in the semi-near future. There are some historical fantasy elements in it, too. Very cool.

I'll second this one, G.R.R. Martin recommended it

message 14: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (kevn57) I'll second Donnerjack it sounds interesting.

message 15: by Barbm1020 (new)

Barbm1020 Donnerjack sounds good - I like Zelazny.

Pauline | 15 comments Anna-louise wrote: "Dragons of Autumn Twilight

I'll second this one since the Dragonlance series holds a special place in my heart :)

message 17: by Zyialehg (new)

Zyialehg The Demon King this one's pretty good

message 18: by Sam (new)

Sam | 33 comments The Dragon's Path sounds good.

Please take a look at the rules. You cannot nominate your own book. Also, it doesn't seem to be available from anywhere but your own website.

message 20: by Sonja (new)

Sonja Booker (sonjabookergmailcom) I would like to nominate Mythica: Genesis by: Scott S. Colley. It's a fantastic book with tons of action, a bit of romance, and a tale of brotherhood & friendship.

It is available on Amazon. I removed my earlier post. Didn't mean to upset anyone in the group.

It pays to follow directions.

message 23: by Brandy *Ahviel* (new)

Brandy *Ahviel* (ahviel) Graceling for me please

message 24: by Margot (new)

Margot (freezebaby) I'd like to nominate Interview with the Vampire, if we all think this counts as fantasy. I'm sure many of you have already read it. I'm afraid to say I have not, and a friend of mine just recently loaned it to me. Would love to read and discuss!

message 25: by Kate (new)

Kate | 42 comments I'll nominate Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher. Love this series!

message 26: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 282 comments I will nominate The Darkness That Comes Before...this is such a fantasy must-read that it bears a good read!

message 27: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) Anna-louise wrote: "Dragons of Autumn Twilight

I'll second
Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Dragons dragons dragons.

message 29: by Martin (new)

Martin Belcher (martinbelcher) I would like to also nominate Dragons of Autumn Twilight. It's the book that was responsible for my love of fantasy and is very special to me. It's time I revisited the world of Krynn and my favourite character, Raistlin!

message 30: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (Jefforama) Wow. It's been a long, loooong time, but I would probably be inspired to revisit the Dragonlance series if DoAT was selected. I loved it as a 14 year old and would like to see how it holds up. Now, did my mom keep all those old books in my room?

message 31: by Neslihan (new)

Neslihan Ergul I would like to nominate Mythica Genesis - Scott S. Colley
Pure love story in dark fantasy world:)

message 32: by Tish (new)

Tish | 46 comments I second The Demon King

Part of the reason I want to read DoAT is because I never read it as a teenager, but I wish I had. I think it will remind me of my teenage Dungeons & Dragon years. I still RPG but I have to say it's not the same as when I was 16/18 years old.

message 34: by Candiss (new)

Candiss (tantara) I adore Zelazny, too, and I have a strange fondness for Donnerjack due to what was going on in my life when I first read it. I'd be happy to pull out my copy and read it again after all this time.

Since that one's been seconded, I'll use my second in support of The Desert of Souls, as it's on my TBR.

message 35: by Shirunei (new)

Shirunei Shadow and Claw by Gene Wolfe

Shadow and Claw

message 36: by Eric (new)

Eric (e_gerds) | 8 comments I'll second the nomination Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher. Love this series!

So many good choices I'm not going to nominate.

message 38: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (Jefforama) I second Shadow and Claw. Another great one that I'd love a reason to dust off. It's a book that sticks with you. Years after I read it, I find myself mentally going back to some of them many compelling scenes.

message 39: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I would like to nominate Homeland by R.A. Salvatore.

message 40: by Cheryl (last edited Feb 16, 2012 11:13AM) (new)

Cheryl Hager (cheryl_is_reading) I nominate The Greyfriar, which I have already read, but would read again for the discussion and to refresh my memory before I start on the second book in the series, The Rift Walker.

message 42: by Hélène (new)

Hélène (hlneb) Too many good choices : I'll second The Steel Queen - but I might as well second The Dragon's Path or The Traitor's Daughter!

message 43: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne (jeannekc) I'd like to suggest something a little off the wall. Since it is the 50th anniversary of the publication of A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and I've seen many people mention this book as their earliest entry into the fantasy realm, I was wondering if any of you would like to do a re-read of this classic now that you're an adult and discuss?

message 44: by Amber (new)

Amber Ivers (mohawkguy28) I'll second The Demon King

message 45: by Leland (new)

Leland (llsmith) I'll second Desert of Souls!

I re-read Dragons of Autumn Twilight a couple years ago and sadly it didn't hold up to my fond 13 year old memories. The trilogy does improve as you get through it though.

message 46: by Brendan (last edited Feb 16, 2012 12:14PM) (new)

Brendan Read somewhere on here - Glen Cook likened to David Gemmell so would like to give his books a try at some point - starting with... The Black Company I guess.

message 47: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I'll second A Wrinkle in Time.

Tish | 46 comments Jeanne wrote: "I'd like to suggest something a little off the wall. Since it is the 50th anniversary of the publication of A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and I've seen many peopl..."

I'd be up for that, except I already seconded something, so someone else will need to second it to get it in the poll.

Helen | 3616 comments Mod
Keep seeing the name everywhere so I'll second A Wrinkle in Time.

message 50: by Stefini (new)

Stefini Hanley I nominate Mythica Genesis by Scott S. Colley! Excellent fantasy book. Unlike any other fantasy, can't wait until his next book comes out!
