Darkm "I think, for me at least, it's important that people see BP is both manageable and dangerous/serious. And that love sees past all of that."

Amen to this :)

"I know humor is so subjective, so I'm glad that SG and Austin worked for you. I think humor balances out the sad and tragic lessons life hands us, so I try to equalize the terrible with levity. "

It really worked in your book. And in life, if we have to choose between laugh or cry, I'd rather laugh :)

PS / wave.
I was missing reading you around :)

Christina I'm so glad I found this thread. First, let me thank all your family/friends who changed your mind about that ending from hell! Ok, I see your reasons but OMG - can't go there.

Now onto happy thoughts. I loved the teasers. That was such a perfect letter to Riley. *sniffs* I need more. So I'll be waiting anxiously for Cai and Riley's first kiss, Cai in Europe, something sexy between Austin and Peter, well anything you want to give us :)

I think if there were only a choice of two, I'd be all about the laughter too. Or maybe the romance?

Isn't laughter so much better when it comes after angst, though? *grin*

PS: *wave* I still am around and everyone is always welcome in any discussion!

LOL I'll relay the message to them. They do a good job of support and bitchslapping me at the same time =D.

Hopefully we'll have Cai & Riley's first kiss (so chaste that moment) in a relatively quick time period =). Glad you're on board for the next one.

I second that Amen. It has been one of the most difficult things for my friend to understand, actually. That we love him, no matter what.

I'm with you on the laughter and angst combo, Dani. I love that balance and wish I came across it in books more often. It did work so well in SG and I'm sure it will in NSI also, because your characters are so real. I had a hard time coming to the end of SG, because now the guys are off hanging out without me :(

Darkm "Isn't laughter so much better when it comes after angst, though? *grin*"

Lol, it is, but what I meant is that if something bad happens, I'd rather try something positive to look at, rather than just cry.

Jilly I think the good thing is that your friend understands that you are there for him no matter what. Sometimes it takes some time to accept this :)

100% agree, Meg. THat saying that laughter is the best medicine is so profound, even while trite.

Dani Alexander Kate wrote: "Gee, Dani. This thread is getting pretty long for a book that no one was going to read. *laughing*"

I know! It's the most fascinating, wonderful, awesome thing. And scary, Kate. It's very scary. The good kind of scary. Like a first date or the first kiss. I still get nervous when responding to everyone. It's probably weird to others, but my hands shake constantly when I type because I'm so crazy nervous. I wonder if any other authors feel like that?

message 309: by [deleted user] (new)

They have Chinese food in far northern Sweden? Wow. I thought it was all fish and cheese. :p

The Quit his job in order to write full-time. part sounds like the ultimate win. I'm crossing all my fingers you get to make that happen!

Dani Alexander Kate wrote: "Dani wrote: "Kate wrote: "It sounds fun scary and fabulous. And then when you get your first royalty check for LOTS more than you were expecting you can go splurge on something wild with the hubs..."

Yes, thankfully, they have Chinese and Indian food. I couldn't live without those considering that I already have to do without Mexican. (Oddly they have a great interest in Mexican food, but no restaurants up north. Just Stockholm).

Me too (crossing fingers). It'd be awesome to make this work. IT's all I've ever wanted to do.

Christina Crossing my fingers for you too Dani! How about Thai food? Even better than Chinese.

message 314: by Jill (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jill That's the great thing about books, Jilly, they're always there to hang out with you when you want =D.

Most definitely, and a re-read of SG is coming up soon!

Me too (crossing fingers). It'd be awesome to make this work. IT's all I've ever wanted to do.

Fingers crossed here too!

How about Thai food? Even better than Chinese.

Mmm, Thai food. I'm hungry for take out now. =D

message 315: by Dani (new)

Dani Alexander Thai food =D Oh man. I devour Green Thai Curry on a daily basis because they have it here as a frozen food. It's Weight Watchers, which is weird lol because it's really good. Since it's the only good Green Thai Curry around, I buy tons of it.

THanks for the finger crossing guys =D All those good vibes are making me walk around on Cloud 9(10?11?).

♥Laddie♥ (Lee Lee) I don't really have any questions but I kind of want to ask for spoilers. That's a good sign because that means the writing is so good that I'm invested in the characters and want to make sure that everything works out. All of my fingers and toes are crossed.

Mmmmmmmm Thai food. Coconut sticky rice is soooooooo good.

You can find the WW recipe on the internet, it looks pretty easy to make.

Christina Thanks Kate! I'll have to try it out.

message 320: by [deleted user] (new)

The one I was looking at was http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rc...

Of course, nam pla and green curry paste might be hard to find in northern Sweden so Dani better stick with her frozen goodies. :)

You're always welcome to spoilers =) Ask away.

Kate, anything Asian is getable here, but restaurants are few and far between in terms of variety. It really is a "small" town. Although less small town in size than in mentality and availability. In the states it's always easy to get whatever, but here, up north, it's very remote. No big cities to drive to.

So yay for that recipe site, which was what I meant with all my longwindedness =D heh.

But, while in a writing frenzy, I still probably will stick with frozen. I usually don't take time out for anything. =)

That's how I feel too. I'm so invested in them and I want to know how things are for Austin and Peter now that things have (hopefully) calmed down - although I'm sure that Darryl is causing trouble! But I can be patient while waiting for NSI, really I can : )

Madonna196 This novel was brilliant. Brilliant writing, brilliant banter, brilliant plot, brilliant, hilarious, clever humour that had me laughing out loud with beautiful, poignant moments. Loved loved these flawed characters; Austin is the most unique, most frustrating, most endearing character I've ever fallen for in fiction. I would give much for more of Peter, Austin, Cai and Darryl. When I got, much too soon, to The End, I went back to revisit some of my favourite scenes - turns out almost every page had a "favourite scene". Seriously, one of the best novels I've ever read.

message 325: by Darkm (new) - rated it 5 stars

Darkm With all those talks of food I've never tried you're making me drool :P

Dani, I think it's pretty normal to feel nervous, and in a way, it's good as well, because you care about your readers and what they may think/feel :)

I think Aiko derailed the thread this time. Yup. She deserves a furlined bedazzled cape to rewards her talents. She can't have the crown back though.

@Dani There's a ferret waiting for you in your email. :D

Aiko I'm ok with my glittercrown Laddie :D bedazzled fur cape would be freaking awesome though. Imagine me with my goblet of awesomeness, glittercrown, bedazzled cape AND bunny slippers. Eccentric and relentlessly awesome all rolled into one.

Dani Alexander @Aiko - Writing is going okay =-) I ran into a roadblock, but working through it!

There's way too much bedazzling going on in this thread. I keep looking for my mother and her bedazzle gun to pop out at any second and tell me I need to be more feminine LOL.

@Laddie - Ferret was most awesome, cutest thing EVER!!! <3

Exactly!

Fleece is great, I think the only things I can easily wear are fleece and cotton. The rest I can, but it drives me insane.

PS Dani your country is beautiful, but sooooo cold. I'll pass until is summer :)

Order some, Dani. I LOVE mine. So comfy and cozy. They definitely help me get through the Chicago winters. Although it looks like I may not need them now. We've had lots of fluctuating temperatures lately, but it looks like spring is going to stick around this time!

LenaLena I'll share some of my fleece comfy pants. They are all presents from my mother in law. Do you want the lavender ones with the scarf wearing polar bears or the pink ones with the little hearts?

I don't think I have kittens..... I must let her know of this deficiency immediately!

*eyes roll* Your MIL is something beyond belief. Good grief. But I'd take her up on it, Dani. Warm fleecy things are like comfort food or something. You can always die them black and no one would ever have to know about the hearts and the polar bears. :D

LenaLena The polar bears have a matching shirt. I am mentioning this in case it makes a difference.

Not sure fleece dyes well. I think only cotton does. I'll ask my friend Tie Dye Deb. She 'fixes' everything I stain permanently.

Oh I love how when you wear colors, they can affect the mood. Yellow is one of my favorite colors, too.

Jillybean wrote: "Order some, Dani. I LOVE mine. So comfy and cozy."

Already did =D. I'll probably see them in about a month. Stupid AMazon delivery >8(

Marleen wrote: " lavender ones with the scarf wearing polar bears or the pink ones with the little hearts? "

Wow. I can't even...that's...I'm not very masculine, but I can't picture myself in lavender (or frufru colors) I love looking at them, but not wearing them. There is the odd exception to the rule, but I draw a line at bears and kittens.

Can someone tell my mother that?

Kate wrote: "You can always die them black and no one would ever have to know about the hearts and the polar bears. :D "

@@ That's like hiding the cheese in casseroles. Everyone keeps saying "seriously, it doesn't taste like cheese. You won't even know there's cheese in there".

I always know, Kate. I always know.

Marleen wrote: "The polar bears have a matching shirt. I am mentioning this in case it makes a difference."

Oh gawd. Let me just put this out there:
No bunnies
No bears
No kittens
No hearts, flowers, paisley...

Black, brown, navy and sometimes white (with stripes). That's about it.

Wow. I just read all I wrote and ...man, I'm boring LOL.

message 347: by [deleted user] (new)

Dani wrote: "Black, brown, navy and sometimes white (with stripes). That's about it."

*Shakes head* Okay, we can work on this. Maybe start with a little dark burgundy and plan on working up to red or deep purple. Think of it as an adventure. :)

message 348: by Aiko (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aiko I didn't see anything about puppies and unicorns being banned....*cough*

And for some reason I find it hysterical that your MIL are buying you pink cuddlepants with hearts on Marleen. You should show her the bathat you wore to the tea-party.

message 349: by LenaLena (last edited Mar 17, 2012 11:16AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

LenaLena Oh gawd.

That pretty much sums up my reaction every time my mother in law buys me clothes.

ETA: But you said you like yellow, Dani. I have a large YELLOW fleece shirt with black piping she got me. Nothing wrong with it, just very..... YELLOW.

Aiko: She is 87 and is from the South (think Scarlet O'Hara). I guess I am a little mannish in comparison.
