I hate how Steve thinks I'm a teenaged boy.

He lends me books that are filled with violence at a grand scale. I'd NEVER read a superhero comic in my life until I met him and now it's getting out of control.

Steve, my favorite books are Middlesex and Angela's Ashes. My favorite movie is Amelie! I like comedies. And America's Next Top Model. I do NOT like superhero comics where people's heads get slashed off and land on the floor.

Thanks. "Kick Ass!" the comic IS kick ass. But I can't handle it!!!!

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

P.S. I also don't want to read things THIS ugly. Even if it IS about a Mexican wrestler who is also a detective.

message 3: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments How about a comic detailing the story of when the Hulk traveled to a distant planet and became a gladiator?

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

No, thank you.

message 5: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) I hate that Steve does not lend me his violent comic books about girls who kick ass. *jealousy*

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Kick Ass is pretty good...if you don't get anxiety attacks when little kids start slicing people's heads off.

message 7: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) r u kidding? Kill Bill 1 & 2 are one of my favorite films... and the comic sequence where the tiny asian girl kicks ass is one of the best parts!!!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I like Kill Bill, too. I guess I can see where I send mixed messages that make Steve think that I would want to read really violent comics. I have to be in the right mood is all.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Like I almost had a panic attack when I watched Reservoir Dogs.

message 10: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) omg Reservoir Dogs is really violent. uber harsh. I will probably never watch that again. Too Much. But then, I loved Death Proof. So.. yeah... I'm moody about it as well.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, when they were torturing the cop, I almost lost it.

message 12: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) yeah, I'm not a fan of torture scenes either. not in any film. I still can't watch that scene in Syriana.

message 13: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) Have you seen Machine Girl?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1050160/

My daughter rented it and it was pretty good, but quite bloody.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

The only fight I ever got in with one of my exes was during that scene because I wanted to stop watching the movie.

message 15: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) he was dedicated to subjecting you to torture? that's very gallant.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

He hates police officers.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Plus, the guys I date are kinda mental.

message 18: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) you and me both, babycakes.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't seen Machine Girl. I think I'm in a "violence and me don't mix" mode right now.

message 20: by Tom (new)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) Try Usagi Yojimbo comics. No super heroes, not gory. Plus it's got fluffy bunnies. Sorta.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Usagi is absolutely brilliant and I think you'll find the art style a bit more gentle on the eyes Montambo.

Of course, it does lack that sweet scene where kick ass gets nailed by the car and the lovely cryogenic imagery of 'The Brothers of The Bone' but it's not completely without it's merits.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Charissa: I've heard good things about Machine Girl, I'll throw it on the Queue for next week and let ya know...

message 23: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) oh see, now you've gone and made me want to read comics with asian girls who kick ass, with lots of violence and stuff. and I CAN'T FIND ANY ON LINE!!!! I've officially come to the end of the internetz. I did however collect a shitload of really cool images of asian women in comics... from ninja to samurai to anime to just plain hot.

Now one of you has to give me some recommendations for more comics I can read that look like that kick ass image up above. Dammit.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

You should be checking out Kick Ass, Battle Royale (the manga specifically although both the Film & book are quite good), Gunslinger Girl (which is not only pretty cute but has The Delgados playing the theme song), Uzumaki (The Manga, not the film), Audition, and of course almost any film with Lily Thai :D

Lemme know when you're done with those and I'll see what else I got.

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments Ok charissa I did find it… and I love it!! it kick ass!!! Read 1 and 2…. But I can’t find 3….

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

The third one is where these guys are introduced:

message 27: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) AWESOME COOL!!! thanks ya'll!!

I did run across Audition yesterday. That is an absolutely beautiful hysterical rag. I'm totally heading down to my local comic shop when I get home. W00t!

message 28: by Tom (new)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) Asian girls who kick ass in comics? How about Kabuki? Asian girl assasins, with holy-shit-is-this-really-a-comic-book art in some of the books.

message 29: by Amanda (last edited Nov 28, 2008 08:26PM) (new)

Amanda (randymandy) :-/

Edit* That's re: messages 1-29.

message 30: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 29, 2008 07:53AM) (new)

Tom: I'd been on the bubble about Kabuki (having been burned by the Great Art=Crap Writing equation before), but I've heard such good things about this one...and I'm still trying to fill the void left by Y the Last Man :_( I'll check it out, Thx Tom!

message 31: by Tom (new)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) A word about Kabuki: The artwork is amazing in the books with painted art. As for the story, well...the artwork is incredible. Not that the story is bad like the Spider Man clone story was bad. I nearly swore off all things Marvel forever after that one, drawing the reasonable conclusion that any company that could publish anything so god-awful, wretchedly, pathetically horrid didn't deserve my money. The Kabuki story lines are ok, just nothing special

Oh...and Montambo might enjoy Strangers In Paradise. It's got lesbians, so you might, too.

message 32: by Tracy (new)

Tracy ha, for a second there i thought you were refering to audition the movie... which is not a movie for people who don't like to watch uncomfortable torture sequences. i had no idea it was a comic. is it at all related?

i love love LOVE kabuki. mostly becuase of the art, but i dig the story too (although her insane ranting gets a little trying in the later books, the watercolors are so pretty you can easily ignore the 30th reference to her dead gold fish). it was actually fairly instrumental in my choice of career, even though now i design packaging for women's skin care products rather than comic books. although i still want to do a comic one of these days.

message 33: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Dear Steve,

Montambo just doesn't appreciate you the way I can. *wink*. Call me.

Er...I mean...uh...just kidding!
