I saw photos of it... it was several fire extinguishers wired together. I'm suspecting hoax rather than mislaid package.

Ace, in case you haven't heard yet, Debbie sent me a DM two days ago to say she and hers are safe, although at one point she was worried about her in-laws who live in Mexico City. The place where she and Marco spent their holiday is also near the quake but fortunately it didn't affect them. No damage to their home either.

Yup. All accurate. Interestingly, according to my dad, my great-grandmother used to call her apron a napron. So the usage must have survived in her part of Scotland. :)
I believe the word napkin derives from napron. Nap being cloth, and kin being small.

And on it goes here...hardly have tim to grieve one tragedy when we are steamrolled with another!
You all must be so shocked. I think one of the things makes these tragedies such a shocking thing (other than all the obvious things) is that nobody is prepared. You're at a concert, enjoying yourself, not harming anybody and then in the blink of an eye.....that happens.
Terri I'm just moving your question over to here.. regarding chores on a boat.Yes. It seems infinite at times. We have to do our own maintenance, electrical, plumbing, de-moulding (tools, furnishings, clothing, belts handbags, appliances). You would also think that out in the middle of the ocean there would be no dust. Wrong. Dust, salt and water are our enemies.
We also have to buy food and provisions in bulk, so our menus are dictated by what's going to go off next lol and need to rotate items into the fridge, turn the eggs over and inspect pasta, rice and flour for all sorts of things. I didn't realise, living in Australia that our rice and flour were so clean until I started shopping overseas. There are actually small pebbles in some packets of dried goods.
There is always salt on everything, decks, cushions steel bars, safety rails. Salt turns everything into rust. So then we need to de-rust. We have to keep an eye on the batteries, the water, make water, heat water, save water !!! The washing machine has stopped working so now I also have to hand wash everything. The linen is all awaiting a marina stop where there is a laundry... these items sometimes mould also if they were damp beforehand. Must hang out dirty towels prior to the hamper. Lesson learned 😐
I could go on about this all day, but you get the idea. But, I'm not complaining. Just explaining. We love it. Some days we do sweet FA.

Haha. Yeah, you gotta get yourself a good red lippie. You never know who you might bump into on the open water. A good hostess must be prepared to entertain on the poop deck at a moments notice.
I can get you a good red lippy.A friend of mine lives about a half mile down from where the tragedy in Vegas happened. She was on her way back from dropping a family member off at the airport. Her husband had won tickets to go to the event but they decided not to go at the minute. Sometimes fate is funny like that.

I noticed today the scrub oak on the mountain sides are really red this year almost scarlet. Normally when they turn, they are a sort of burnt orange. Also the Aspens up high are also starting to turn yellow - makes for pretty sunrises :)
What does it mean, happy? Do you know?
I don't know for sure, but I heard that when we have a wet spring (for us) and a not to dry summer - the reds in the leaves really develop. They fade rather quickly to their normal rust orange.Scrub oak is the species of oak we have around here - they don't grow tall - 15 ft (4.5m) or so, they don't grow thick - trunks are maybe 2 inches (5cm) in diameter, but they grow in thickets that are almost impossible to walk through all over the mountain sides from about 4500 ft to 7000 ft. The red/oranges, yellows of the Aspens and the greens of the pines make a pretty picture - Not New England pretty ( there is nothing like New England in the fall!), but pretty never-the-less :)
There are a couple canyon drives that should be spectacular this year. If the rain doesn't knock the leaves down early

Yes we did - about 2 weeks ago the temps dropped 20-25 degrees F almost overnight and it wasn't overly warm before hand. It has stayed cool for the most part since then (50/60 during the day 40s at night). It also dropped below freezing in the mountains.
Apparently the more stressed the trees are the more dramatic the chlorophyll change and thus the colour. So drought or big temperature drops.
I didn't quite understand the science she was trying to explain to me but that's the gist.
That's what I was wondering. Drought. Much lower than average rainfall. Thought that may be a contributor.

Still beautiful!Terri, Mid-Autumn Festival is a Chinese traditional festival celebrated on the 15th day of the eight lunar month each year, which is always a full moon day. In ancient times, the festival was to celebrate harvests. Later a major historical event at the end of the Yuan Dynasty (Mongolian-ruled) got connected with this Festival. A peasant named Zhu Yuanzhang had an idea of communicating with other peasants in an uprising he led: that was to embed a note inside mooncakes indicating the day and time of a major attack (mooncakes were a festival dessert customarily passed around in villages as gifts on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival). The rebellion was a success - the Yuan Dynasty was replaced by the Ming Dynasty and Zhu became the first Ming Emperor.
