Simona | 1453 comments Here in the north of Italy we have a round 0°C.(At 8.00 am). Don't know what it is in Fahrenheit, but it's a low figure. Brrrrr.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments Cold :)

Afer our cold snap last week - it feels down right warm. The lows are just below freezing ( 28-30 F, -1 -2 C) at night and the highs are 43-45 F (7-8 C) in the afternoon. Almost shorts and shirt sleeves weather :)

I thought Italians were more fur coats & less of the michelin look! ;D

Simona | 1453 comments please. furs are soooooo 80. (and they weigh a ton...)

message 11311: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Thank you all for the weather reports told with such humor! We are still at 42 ℉ which is not that cold for an overnight low. The sun is even shining. The wintry blast of arctic air must have stalled in northern states. Keep cool and keep warm!

message 11312: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) We're finally warming up here. It's 2°C this morning at 8am.

We're hoping it warms up more to thaw all the ice. We had the worst ice storm in over 25 years over the last 3 days. The poor trees look like they've been bombed, I'm hoping that once the ice melts off it won't look so bad!

I hate Ice Storms, much worse than a blizzard IMO.

Hope the trees come out of it and are not to broken up!

message 11316: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I agree

Snow has nothing on ice. All the roads were closed and I had to take the back way into work. The power was off for 2 days and now the ice is falling...it's been interesting to say the least.

message 11317: by Lariela (new)

Lariela | 187 comments It was icy on my road this week. I slipped a couple times when I went to collect the post.

message 11318: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) Our "snow" day was a success! Elizabeth and I made cookies, mini muffins, and soup. It looks like I am going to have to venture out tomorrow for supplies. Apparently there's a nasty blizzard coming our way on Thursday night. Lucky for us we made enough soup to feed a village.

message 11319: by Allison (new)

Allison | 1704 comments Its freezing up here in Michigan too. Low teens to single digits with that real biting wind/chill factor. Only a light dusting of snow though... we had a crazy day the other day. It rained, then snowed, then rained, then sleet, then rain again. Everything is VERY icy :/

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments I love the weather stories! 9℉ here. Those ice storms are bad, especially black ice because everything appears normal on the road.

message 11322: by happy (last edited Jan 08, 2015 08:23AM) (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments One thing about warm weather here in the mountians is that we get tempature inversions - the temps up at the ski resorts are actually warmer than in the valleys. The result is all the gunk that goes into the air is trapped in the valleys. After a couple of weeks of an inversion you practically have to cut the air with a knife to breath - not good!

Were supposed to have a storm come in the weekend a scour everythink out.

message 11325: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments It's a dreadful thing to happen. After what happened in Sydney before Christmas, Australians are also feeling very close to, and supportive of, the French.

I'm saddened, and enraged, and positively mad for all the people that died and for all the perfectly decent people of islamic faith that get slimed by this madness

Terri | 19576 comments That's odd. The page numbers (the number of pages wedged between the words previous and next) are on the left side. It's now very cluttered on the left side of the thread. It should have stayed on the right near 'date' and 'comment'.

Terri | 19576 comments The Paris attack is just awful. Like the attack over here in Sydney recently, I am left wondering..how do these people slip through the system?? Those Paris guys had so many red flags in their history.

Andy | 1511 comments Well its all ended in 2 shoot-outs in the last 90mins, sadley hostages have died at the market & potentially police casualties at the Ind Est I believe as a fleet of ambulances went flying across after the shooting of the two terrorists - no word as yet. All very sad.

message 11331: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I had heard on CNN this morning that both suspects were killed during the stand off.

message 11332: by Andy (new)

Andy | 1511 comments They were, however a fleet of ambulances went flying across after the shooting of the two terrorists which may indicate police casulaties. Now apprently 1 got away from the market, 1 killed & the g/f who they thought was inside is whereabouts unknown..... :( More to play out in the next few hours I fear, lets hope they get them soonest.

message 11333: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I can't pay too much attention to what's going on via television. I won't watch that kind of news coverage when my twins are running around. The whole situation is just unbelievably sad.

The whole thing is a bloody mess.

Terri | 19576 comments I watched the whackiest, craziest most hilarious (because it was so awful) movie the other night.
Flash Gordon. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080745/

Were we really so dumb and simple in 1980? I can hardly believe it. How can they make such crap when at the same time Star Wars was around?

I remember seeing it when I was little kid. Not when it came out in 1980. Too young then. But some time in the mid 80's. I remember thinking it was not very good back then too.

It was good for a laugh though. Hubby and I were kind of glued to it the other night. So bad it was good for a laugh.

EDIT: What the heck? When getting the link from IMDB I see it was nominated for a bunch of BAFTA awards and won one! How can this be?? Obviously we were that dumb and simple in 1980. LOL! ...or maybe it was just the British who were. ;)

message 11336: by Andy (new)

Andy | 1511 comments Have been out & jus got back in but originally they said the 2 suspects, who were shot dead by police, were at the industrial estate North of Paris. Then at the market they kept saying it was the suspect who killed the policewoamn yesterdays AND his g/f but then after they stormed that & shot him dead they said a second accomplice (male) had got away from there & that his g/f who was originally suspected of been at the market & with him yesterday at the shooting was place unknown...... so there's five..... such an envolving story, that was at 17:00 approx UK time (4.5hrs ago)

Concur, mind Timmy Dalton was in it as well..... kinda Robin Hood plus the Princess showing all the flesh... talking of which Flesh Gordon was bttr

message 11340: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I feel like there was maybe a Flash Gordon television show in the States but I could be wrong. I was kind of a tiny person for a large majority of the 80's but ask me almost anything about boy bands from the 90's!

message 11341: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Jan 09, 2015 01:43PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Was a surprise to see Timothy Dalton in it. Dressed up like Robin Hood. hehe. :D So weird.
Hubby and I keep using lame lines from the movie now. Can't help ourselves. Like Mungo Meantime when you ask what time it is. Its 9..Mungo Meantime.

Kimber (kimberlibri) | 785 comments Flash is one of those movies that is so bad you have to love it. It was like Spaceballs or Scary Movie but even cheesier because I think a few people on set were actually trying to be serious. Classic Bad Movie stuff. Love it.

So sorry, her prior book: Among Others is one of the best I have read in the last three years but this one, My Real Children, is simply a brick.

So sorry. Has It happened to You with another author/book?

Oh yes, definitely. I've had this happen a few times. The most memorable one for me would be the first two books in the Michael Arnold Stryker series.

I LOVED Traitor's Blood. A top adventure, in my opinion.
Bought the next book expecting more of it and found book two was a disaster. Devil's Charge

I will still go on and try the third book. I don't know when, but I want to give it a chance.
