Gretchen (eab2012) I'm guessing a lot of you guys would have been less than impressed by my work out playlist this morning. ;)

I hope you aren't driving up from SoCal - Yesterday I-15 was washed out north of Las Vegas for about 50 miles. Southern Utah hasn't had a rain storm like that in a 100 yrs! Almost 4 inches (10 cm)in about 12 hrs

All the National Parks in Southern Utah were closed due to flash flood dangers

The weather is supposed to nice Thursday, but cool

I'm right there with you Derek. Absolutely loved The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum. Went to the U2 concert in Edmonton in July 2011. I was disappointed they didn't play more from those two albums but it was still a blast.

And yes Bobby - be careful. Between dust storms and flooding the southwest is not a pleasant place to be at the moment. Guns Up TT!!

Gretchen (eab2012) I got asked if I wanted to take part in a virtual book tour for a book I recently read. I thought it was kind of funny the publisher contacted me considering I didn't exactly give the book a glowing review.

Are they hard up for participants? Or, are they thinking you'll reread and improve your rating/review?

message 9807: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I'm not really sure. I sent an e-mail to the publishing company discussing my review. I don't think I'll agree to do a virtual book tour. Contrary to popular belief, being a stay at home mom means I have things to do during the day.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments During the rains earlier in the week - for the first time my walking partner (a mini schnauzer named Otis) decided he had enough. We were about 2 miles from home when the skies opened up, just like someone turned on a tap. Otis stopped dead, looked at me like he was saying, "Just what are we doing - I'm going home!". He then looked back and started home.

He does not like water, except to drink, He even goes into the street whenever we pass a sprinkler so he doesn't get wet :)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments So Apple is on a roll this week. Apparently, overnight Ottawa placed its flag on the town of Port Stanley. Vancouver decided to move into the Interior.
Montreal, seeing Ottawa went south decided to grab new land and Quebec figured it was tired of the Plains of Abraham and decided to shift west to Montreal's vacated spot and everyone must remember they're called 'Quebec Bagels' now.
Not even getting between the Prairie cities, since they're busy sorting out their crops and stock from the midnight melee

I reckon we should create a secret handshake with Scotland and create our own economic union. Maybe invite Iceland, Ireland, and the Faroe Islands. We could call it the West Viking Lands Accord.

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Otis is a good name for a dog. Better than Fancy Pants, Shirley or Cutie Pie. I heard about Scotland. The economic repercussions do not sound promising. I heard nothing about Canada. We had a hoax, pronounced 'hoe axe,' pulled on Facebook yesterday. The word was that one of the county public schools was targeted for a terrorist attack, so discerning parents kept their children home.

Oh, the Star Trek thing sounds so cool!! My mom and I are huge fans and we always go to every Star Trek thing they have in the area (okay, I think it helps that she basically indoctrinated me into Star Trek when I was young but that's the kind of indoctrination I don't mind).

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments Otis is the name he came with - we adopted him as a 2 or 3 yr old. It fits him though. He is alway eager to take me for a walk. When I get home from work he is at the top of the stairs, ready to go and looking at me like "How come you aren't changed yet!" We normally go about 6 miles or so

Mrs Happy and I went to the symphony tonight and had two firsts - On the fist half of the program the symphony performed a Beethoven piece that I had never heard of let alone heard

Wellington's Victory. Written to honor Wellington's victory over Napoleon's brother at Vitoria The percussionists looked like they were having a ball - simulating the battle with all sorts of whirly gigs and poppers

The second half was Mahler's first symphony which they were recording for a commerical release next year. I'm happy to say noone's cell phone went off or watch beeped :)

Oh jeezalou! Lubbock - where you don't walk 'round a corner without strapping yourself to a friend or holding on to something cemented into the ground. I always felt sorry for my amigas who went to Tech in the late 80's/early 90's - the era of the Big Aquanet Hairstyle.

message 9833: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Something weird just happened. When I walked into the kitchen I saw double grout lines on the tiled floor. I was seeing double without medicinal help. Called MyTom from the dungeon that used to be the den, (He has a big screen TV on top of the old console TV, which must be in vogue, and one accessible chair--his recliner. Otherwise the floorspace is covered with boxes.) he did not want to leave his lair, but as my panic grew, he did come up, said I was having a focusing problem, and told me to calm down. He said we would go to the eye doctor tomorrow. His duty done, he went back to the dungeon. Meanwhile, I crawled around the kitchen floor feeling to determine which grout line was real and which was not. Convinced there was one grout line around each tile, I returned to my reading room bed. I opened ASUS, went to Amazon, and I promise you the following happened for the first time ever: Amazon would not let me enter my password until I took an eye examination because I might be having trouble seeing!!! Immediately after my first experience of seeing double, Amazon wants to give me, for the first time, an eye examination! What are the odds of those two things occurring almost simultaneously? Is my house or my body that is bugged? A good while ago, one of my gentlemen friends suggested that I not use my Nook and my ASUS side by side on my reading bed or I might end up with little Kobos. Maybe double vision is a sign that I am about to give birth to Kobos. When I tell all of this to the eye doctor tomorrow, will she call the sheriff to come get me and have me committed to a padded cell, or will she die laughing? Then I will be indicted for murder. Oh no! That would be double homicide because of my double vision.

It sounds like severe eyestrain. I know when I read for too long a period, not using computer or e-reader, just a regular printed book, the letters get fuzzy so I know I should stop for awhile. If I do, then my eyes are ok. Have you had cataract surgery sometime? I feel my cataract surgery has had effect on me.

Happy, my dogs are the same. neither of them like water except to drink it and even then they stay back when you refresh their water bowl for fear you are going to wet them..or give them a spontaneous bath in the water bowl. lol. The little dog is worse than our big dog with water.

Terri | 19576 comments Seeing double, Linda? That sounds really serious. Please keep us posted on what the eye Doc tells you at the appointment.

message 9838: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Seeing double scared me enough to see the eye doctor later this week. I have not had cataract surgery, but it is coming. I tested high for glaucoma in one right eye. When I went for retesting, right eye was normal and left eye was high??? We are all readers. Our eyes are important. My episode of double vision is a wake-up call to all of us to get our eyes examined as often as the O.D. recommends. Glaucoma, as I understand it, is an aging condition that can be halted, but the eye sight already lost cannot be regained. Thank you, all my friends, for your input.

message 9839: by Darcy (last edited Sep 15, 2014 07:44AM) (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I've got a condition called Map-Dot Fingeprint Dystrophy, so I'm always having trouble with my eyes. The optometrist says it can lead to glaucoma, so I'm always tested for that. I can relate Linda. Some days even just opening them is a problem, and double vision happens now and then, but like Jane, that particular issue (for me) is due to eye strain.
My mum is having cataract surgery in November. She feels like there's always something floating in front of her eyes - like a minute piece of fluff. My grandpa saw full on spots.

I hope it's nothing too serious. Thanks for reminding us to make appointments. I just realised that I'm eligible for one now :)

message 9840: by Linda (last edited Sep 15, 2014 07:31AM) (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments The eye test Amazon recommended was their jumbled signs and/or letters in a box and asking me to type what I saw. SIC message 9917

Good grief, Darcy. That condition sounds positively sci fi. :)

(sorry to hear it could give you future troubles)

message 9843: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Sometimes it feels a little sci-fi to explain it. heh
Mostly, it's blurred vision and watery eyes - more of an annoyance than painful. The doc and I keep a close eye on it, so it's all good. Plus if I ever have to get the surgery, I may end up not needing glasses to drive anymore. Early days yet though.
