He also played Crippen in 10 Rillington Place which was quite good.

Gretchen (eab2012) I know it wasn't exactly historically accurate but I loved Attenborough in Elizabeth as William Cecil. I never knew he directed Gandhi. That wasn't exactly on the movie quiz in high school.

Ben Kingsley was perfect for that part. He is Indian background; "Ben Kingsley" is a pseudonym. With a pseudonym he figured he wouldn't be typecast as some one from India.

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Tomorrow in my area:
Bad news - heat warnings (first this summer, and means 40° before humidity
Good news - rain to play in and temper dehydration and general hot weather
Bad news - severe thunderstorm warnings (making jumping into puddles hazardous)
And to make life fun, there is a cold front chasing all this and should it catch up, potential tornado weather.

Now, all this isn't so unusual in these parts, it's just that it typically happens in June or July, not end of August when we're usually considering if our jumpers and cardies are still in fashion.

Ick!

At least our weather is typical for the season. We are getting waves of off Hurricane (now, was tropical storm this morning) Cristobal. Thankfully it doesn't look like it'll hit land, seems to be hanging around Bermuda for now.

Makes me want to read something with pirates in it for some reason. :P

message 9662: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) Here it was over 90 degrees with high humidity yesterday. Today we all had to wear long sleeve shirts. That's pretty Minnesota normal for this time of year.

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Happy little bunny today.

Sherlock won 7 out of the 12 Emmys it was nominated for. Including outstanding actor awards for both Benedict and Martin, and best writer for Steve Moffat.

I feel a Sherlock marathon coming up over the next weekend. :)

Lisa | 728 comments I've only watched a couple from that series a little while ago, Margaret. We stopped watching because we wanted to start at the beginning. Finally bought it last weekend, loved it!!!

message 9666: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments It's my favourite watching pick-me-up. The level of talent with all the cast is amazing. The writers are mostly brilliant too. I say mostly, because I am not fond of Steve Thompson's offerings.

For the last couple of weeks it has been abnormally cool - instead of the Mid 90's F(35ish C) it's been in the low 70's F(21ish C). It has also been very rainy for us - we've had about 2.5 inches (65mm) of rain this month (about 4 times normal for Aug). I finally got the lawn mowed today - between storms, it was turning to a jungle :)

There has also been some beautiful lighting storms at night over the mountains

Ummm... sure you're not confusing him with his little brother, David?

Richard, Lord Attenborough was an actor and director.

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments My sister's two daughters and their husbands, all Mississippi residents, went to Nappa Valley this past weekend to celebrate somebody's birthday.... They were not injured in the earthquake, just scared out of their minds. The window and mirror glass was flying through their motel rooms, beds were rolling over, etc. They caught a puddle jumper flight as soon as they could and came limping home late Sunday night.

I heard about that Earthquake. Which is not surprising, it was world news.
Sounds like it really caught everyone of guard. No warning rumbles, just bang.
We had a small quake here in Australia yesterday. Quakes are rare in my country. Other than the odd bigger ones throughout our history, whenever there are quakes in Australia they are only small tremors, not often felt and not often occuring. The one yesterday was about 2 I think. it was the timing that was spooky. The quake in the US, then a week later a small quake in eastern Australia. When we hadn't had a quake here for ages.

message 9690: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Gets even more interesting, Terri. New Zealand has had something like 5-6 small quakes in the last 24 hours.

message 9691: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Oh, I don't know. They don't call it the Shakey Isles for nothing. :)
Hearing there are tremors or quakes in New Zealand is like hearing that the mailman just delivered the mail. A fairly regular occurence. :D
I never get spooked by poor old NZ shaking again.

Bit of both. Very little of what they build comes close to being earthquake proof.

We are having man made earthquakes here in Oklahoma thanks to the greedy oil barons. Most of them have been minor, but they are happening at an alarming rate. Freaking frackers....destroying our environment with their greedy oil obsession. There will be blood! http://www.theguardian.com/environmen...

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments ON THE ROAD AGAIN, JUST CAN'T WAIT TO GET ON THE ROAD AGAIN...Willie Nelson's song. I think he is the only singer I know who can get away with changing words and tunes to songs at his pleasure. Those who appear with him keep their eyes on him for some hint as to what the next note or tune may be. I love Willie. My twins got dubbed 'Willie' and 'Waylon' at birth.

The low last night here was 75°F. The Ole Miss/U of Memphis game will be this week-end, and the crowd will burn up! After that game, the nights will get chilly. I do not like fall of the year even if it is absolutely beautiful. I want Bobby to wear some identifying article of clothing so I will recognize him! Good travels, my friend.

Exactly Lisa...exactly. Couldn't have said it any better than that myself. I could, and am tempted to, go on a long, angry political diatribe involving this matter, but I will refrain. I'll just say that the Big Oil companies run this state, and our politicians' pockets are stuffed with their dirty money.
