City of Bones
question
Are there any Guy's that read YA books?

Looking through all the other discussions, I have seen that there are not a lot of Male readers if any. I would like to know what you GUYS think of some books! Such as; City of Bones,The Summoning, Clockwork Angel, Matched, Hush, Hush, Vampire Academy, The Iron King, I Am Number Four, and Fallen.
Or, are these just Chick-books that yield no appeal to guys?
Also, I know that I can’t be the only one that wonders if the main Male protagonist in these books could be real??? Or is it too good to be true?

I have read City of Bones, all the Mortal Instruments, and all the Infernal Devices (including Clockwork Prince). I love I am Number Four and the Mortal Instruments is my favorite series :) I couldn't agree more with Patrick.. Dude I salute you
I've read the Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices (just finished clockwork prince last night) twilight:P, The Iron King, Eon and Eona, The Hunger Games Trilogy, The Maze Runner Trilogy, Maximum Ride etc. etc. I need to read Fallen, Hush Hush, Across the Universe Unearthly, Shiver, and Uglies.
To me a book is a book, whether it is about a girl with girl things or a boy with boy things. Girls read books about boys written by boys, and i think it's hypocritical for guys (because i don't see much girls do this) to not read a book about a girl written by a girl. Almost all book's have some type of romance that I think is a reason guys don't read as much, but romance and love is in our daily lives.

Need a bit of motivation to read City of bones.. I heard it was amazing! But reading the first few pages somehow caused me to put the book down. Not because it was bad but because I guess I got bored. Well anyway I'm a guy so my opinion might differ from how girls may find the book but hey I'm willing to give it another shot if I get a bit of feedback :)

i know a couple guys who hve read the mortal instruments and one tht is reading clockwork angel and i know some tht have read i am number four
I think it depends on where you are (location), too. At my school I'm basically known as "the bookworm". I rarely ever see/hear of someone else reading (no matter the gender). It's actually really sad...
I think most of the guys read more fantasy than YA. I never see a guy in the YA section of a book store while I run into a plethora of them in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section, haha.
I think that it's also due to the fact that most YA books are similar in that it is a female narrator or female author. I've read less than a handful of books/series written by a man or told from a males perspective. The only ones I can think of right now (that are YA) are Beautiful Creatures and Finnikin of the Rock.
Along with Finnikin, a few other reads I think guys might like are:
The Poison Study series.
Touch of Power
Wintercraft ("Shadowcry" in the US)
Anna Dressed in Blood (in male POV!)
The Girl of Fire and Thorns
Graceling / Fire (companion novels I've read at least 5 times each)
The "Iron Fey" series (starting with The Iron King) would also be a great read! It is one of my favorite series of all time. Lots of adventure, war, and fae magic :)

I wish I knew some guys who read more...seems like everyone thinks it's lame nowadays... I feel like I'm the only person at my school who reads! My dad read twilight though haha :)
I think plenty of guys read YA books, they just don't advertise it to much do to the stigma attached to it.
Ha! Many people in the book business claim the boy readers of TMI are leprachauns, but they are not. I have a good friend who is a boy and I got him to read TMI and ID. I even gave him CP for Christmas and he read it in 5 days!!
I know a guy who happens to love the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices.
I've read half of those. There were some things that bugged me and some things I loved about each. A touch of romance doesn't bother me, but when they sigh every other paragraph or go on about "but he's my brother" when he obviously isn't, it may annoy me. Doesn't seem to stop me from reading though.
I've avoided the paranormal romances and stuck to the more adventurous ones.
I've also read The Host, Mazerunner, Hunger Games, and am starting Daughter of Smoke and Bone.
I may be an odd guy though.

Most of the guys I know, love to hear about what I'm reading, and then ask when it will be made into a movie!
nowadays guys at my school r just idiots who think reading is dumb...lucky me
I've got a guy friend who happens to love to read and also loves the mortal instruments series
yes but not this "kind" of books
with "kind" I mean for example twilight

I love those book. most of them are on my to-read list or I already read them. My favorite so far are Mortal Instruments and Hunger games. I can't wait to read the infernal devices and the iron king series.

Well... I sorta know a guy who reads. He's a family friend of a friend and she was texting me about HOW HE HAS READ CITY OF BONES. And I was like, Whaaaaaaaat? And she said he's read them but he thinks they're too much like Twilight. Well my rant against Twilight and how it is nothing like CoB began and went on for ages but the gist of it was basically CoB is much more awesome. Well that would be easily accomplished since Twilight sucks (no offense intended). Anyway there was also something about vampires burning in the sun not sparkling, and werewolves wearing shirts in CoB, and it went on, but the one guy I know in sort of real life has read it, thinks it's like Twilight, which it isn't
I was introduced to the Mortal Instruments by a boy back in 6th grade. At first I thought it looked dumb, and then I saw it in the book store and took a look at it. Now, four years later, I've read the entire TMI series twice, and I've read the Infernal Devices books (Clockwork Prince broke my heart!), and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of City of Lost Souls in May, Clockwork Princess in 2013 and the Dark Artifices (think I spelled that right...) after the end of TMI. I've fallen in love with characters created by the amazing Cassandra Clare, who is pretty much my idol and my inspiration when it comes to writing. And who do I have to thank for all this? A twelve year old boy, who to this day loves TMI and ID just as much as I do (only he doesn't get all fangirly... hehe).
I've tried getting my brother to read my YA books.. He gets interested when I'm talking about them and likes the sound of them, and he's looking forward to The Hunger Games movie a bit, but he won't read them. Well, he's picked up a couple but not gotten further than 3 chapters.
"We are here."
City of Bones is the worst book I've ever read after Lord of the Rings... I've read part of "I am Number Four" online and looking forward to reading the rest of it... I haven't heard of the others you mentioned, my book vocab is kind of short so far....

i know two guys i lent out TMI and they both loved the series and they were more excited when COFA was coming out, and i know someone else who read TMI and spoiled the ending for me, -_____- and i know this one guy read Hush Hush, Shiver, Linger and TMI and i think he read The Twilight Series and i know a lot of guys who read The Twilight Series too
Sure ive read most of those books, i love YA books. Hell i love most books :)
i know a guy who has read the entire twilight series....he told me this AFTER we broke up and now everyone's suspicious he just used me... why are these heroines so lucky to have awesome boyfriends!!! and why can't i have one too!!! lol
I have read a lot of YA Books... like Mortal Instruments (boys read it to ya know!) , I am Number 4, Maximum Ride, and alot more. i have joined the magical world of books when i was 9 or 11.
I read Mortal Instruments because of the action and the awesome characters like Jace or Simon. haha, not the romance. (okay maybe a little cause without the romance, the story would be nothing.) now im trying to read her new trilogy "Infernal Devices" looks interesting.
So yes, guys also read The Mortal Instruments.
Here's a smile: :D
(btw im kinda've random, so you should just ignore that.)

yes i know too many guys that read YA novels it's pretty hysterical... especially when they get into a conversation with you about the book.

yeah, i've been wondering too if guys really "think" the way the YA books' male protagonists do ...
sometimes i think the books' can give an accurate description of what/how a guy can think/feel but other times i feel like the author "romanticizes" the hero too much and it feels unrealistic ...

I have a few guy friends that have read City of Bones and the rest of the Mortal Instrument series and have loved it!
A (male) friend introduced me to Hunger Games, at least 3 of my guy friends love that series. My (male) cousin loves Hunger Games too, he's on Mockingjay now, but before that he used to read Twilight (and he quite enjoyed them). I'm going to let my cousin borrow City of Bones or Uglies next.
I've read city of bones and plan to read the others. the plot caught my eye with the demon killing stuff, i knew there was going to be a little more romance than i typically like in a book just by look at the cover, but the description caught my attention, and i try not to judge a book by its cover. glad i didn't because this is now one of my favorite series (next to unwind and the maze runner). now i don't know about any of these other series but as long as they aren't to the degree that twilight is i may end up reading them. plus YA book just have a faster pace.
You might be the only guy that I've ever heard of who actually read City of Bones! That's awesome. I'm glad it appeals to more than just girls (despite the romance). the others are really good too (if you haven't read them yet), and so is her new Infernal Devices series
