The Spenser books were what got me back to reading mysteries, years ago. The first one I read was CEREMONY and then I went back and read all the previous ones, back-to-back-to-back. Great books. Did you read the one that Ace Atkins wrote last year, ? I was pleasantly surprised with it. Had read some of Atkins' stuff prior to this one and liked it, but had some reservations about anyone doing justice to Spenser. He did a good job! Parker's family chose him to continue the Spenser books.

ALWAYS love a visit with Elvis & Joe! Looking forward to the new Crais book next week. It's a standalone and has a military dog as one of the main characters. Definitely a "can't miss"!

I'm almost done with Dancing Dogs: Stories, really great short stories by Jon Katz. I'm also reading Surviving Your Dog's Adolescence: A Positive Training Program to try and pick up some tips on surviving Jingo.

I'm enjoying it. It's non-fiction written in an almost fictional way. Like storytelling which makes it an easy read.

I finished Kinsey and Me: Stories this morning, with mixed feelings. The first half of the book is a series of short stories featuring Kinsey, and I enjoyed all of them. The second half is short stories written by Grafton after her mother's death, featuring a character named Kit Blue -- whose stories reflect Grafton's own personal life. While the Kit stories are well written, I just didn't like them as much as I liked the Kinsey stories.

I have this on hold at the library. I wondered if Grafton's stories would be as interesting to me as Kinsey's.

I need Christmas in a book for a couple of different challenges, so I'm reading Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor. I keep forgetting that it's not a mystery, so it's unlikely that a body will turn up somewhere along the way LOL

Barb, we appear to be on the same wavelength! I just finished this book (for the same reason) and loved it. No bodies, but lots of romance. I was sorry it was so short and have already ordered the 2nd in the series from the library so I can get to know the family better.

Yes, he is! I hated STORM FRONT, the first one, until it became available on audio some years after the books initial release. Marsters made even that book good!

Did you listen to ? I tried my best to like John Glover narrating, but I couldn't stop noticing the wrong intonations, pauses, etc. It was obvious he wasn't familiar with the book enough to get the flow right.

No, I didn't. I've read all the Dresden books, but I've only listened to about 4 or 5 of them. Knew I wouldn't care for Glover reading the books, so definitely didn't bother listening to that one. I intend to listen to the rest of them eventually even though I've already read them because Marsters is so entertaining.

Well I just finished which was pretty good but I'm currently reading and for an urban fantasy book club I'm in. I've been enjoying cozy mysteries a little more than my urban fantasy just because they're shorter reads, easier to get into and not as much plot/action/detail which makes them easy to pick up between classes and just read a few pages :) but I love my urban fantasy too and these look pretty good :) excited to read them :)

I am a real minority when it comes to SOULLESS. I know so many people who loved it, and I had a terrible time with it. Took me forever to read and I couldn't understand all the hype. I love UF, but just didn't "get" that one.

The more I think about it, the more I think that the reason I fell in love with SOULLESS right off the bat is because I listened to it on audio, instead of picking it up and reading it. I suspect I would have struggled with getting into it had I picked up the book first.

After reading several cozies in a row, I started Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas, which is the 2nd in her Friday Harbor series. So far it's great and I've already ordered the next in the series from my library since I know this one's going to be finished quickly.
