What are You Reading Besides a Cozy?

Did you finish on time? I always feel I'm behind on at least one group book read.

I am reading "The Inconvenient Duchess". It's a Regency Romance and is pretty good. I'm more than half way through it and it reads both well and quickly. I like the story and so far no sex scenes and no foul language. The brother of the groom is a CAD, but someone in the story has to be. It's a free book off of B&N site for my Nook.
This weekend, I'm seriously wanting to be at the beach......but can't. :( So, I'm reading
by Cathy Holton. I haven't tried this author before but the whole "meet up with the old college friends at the beach and act goofy" kinda book sounded good.
I just finished "The Spia Family Presses On"
by:Mary Leo. I don't read many outside the cozy genre but I am glad that I tried this one. Mafia with humor. Good read. Who would of thought.I'm looking forward to the next in this series.

That's on my tbr. You'll have to let me know what you think of it."
I finished the book last night. I enjoyed it very much. It was a fascinating behind the scenes look at Tiffany's back in the summer of 1945. Wow, the luxury & glamour! It was interesting to read about the life of women during wartime. Some of the things that Marjorie & her friend Marty got themselves into were very amusing. The cheesecake scene is especially funny, IMO. Reading the book makes me want to schedule a trip to New York to visit that Tiffany & Co. store and see how much things have changed in the past 60+ years. A very enjoyable & quick read that I would recommend!

This sounds really fun. Why are all these ebooks coming out to taunt me? :(

Im reading The Inn at Rose Harbor byDebbie Macomber, this is a new series - and Im really enjoying it! =)
I'm halfway through Gone Girl
and there isn't one of these characters I would want in my life. I'm enjoying the book, and they're holding my interest, but these people are basketcases from the starting bell on, and more than once I've asked "what in god's name do you SEE in him/her?" about just about every one.
I am currently reading The Cabinet of Curiosities The Cabinet of Curiosities. It is an intriguing mystery.
I'm reading Elizabeth Peters The Richard III Murders. Just started it last night and I'm enjoying it so far.
Finished
a couple of days ago. I really did not like it. Too many literary references and a story that took too long to get nowhere. I am now reading
and it is TERRIFIC.
I'm reading
, which is based on real life events. It's really good, but sometimes hard to read knowing that three of the sisters end up dead.

I hardly ever read biographies but I'm working my way through a shelf at my local library. Basically memoirs or autobiographies of TV personalities. I jump from genre to genre depending on my mood.Currently

I just finished Brava, Valentine
, which is the second of her books about an Italian-American family that owns a custom shoemaking company. I hope she writes a third and finishes the story. And the thanksgiving-dinner-gone-Hindenburg family scene was PRICELESS. I couldn't have stopped reading during that scene long enough to take my hand off a hot burner.

I loved this book. But, I'm concerned - how often do you put your hand on a hot burner? LOL

I read it before either Lucia, Lucia or the "valentine" books. I liked Big Cherry Holler a lot, and in fact turned a friend of mine on to this author because of them. But the BCH books come second with me to either Valentine or Lucia. Lucia was my favorite read of 2011. I liked BCH better than The Queen of the Big Time though, and I haven't read either the Viola series, or Rococo or The Shoemaker's Wife yet.
I'm about halfway through The Shoemaker's Wife and I don't like it as much as the others. It's too long - 475 pages - and I've had to stop several times because I get so frustrated with Enza's relationship with Ciro. I hate seeing women who are strong enough to survive and make something of themselves, but who are so weak/wimpy/phhhtttt with the 'love of their life'.

. Meh."My sister told me about it. I like cozies so it isn't my style. But just for kicks I stood beside the bestsellers rack at the library and read the last 2 chapters. Glad I skipped it. ;)
Aaaaccckkkk*cough*choke*splutter*
I'm glad it worked out for you, but if you'd liked the end? I can't imagine reading the ending of a book, I let the first few chapters decide for me. When my sister was reading a lot of cozies, she would always read the ending to see if she wanted to keep reading, even if it was a book she liked so far. It drove me insane.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, I finished Gone Girl tonight, just now, and the last two chapters are basically four pages. I loved the book. Loved. It. But, those last four pages were the worst part of it. And if you didn't know what came before, you'd have no frame of reference for the ending.
LOL, I basically just did it to drive her crazy. She told me the story up to that point...didn't want to tell me the ending. I don't want to ruin it for anyone on here but I'll just say the one person was crazy and the other was stupid. I NEVER read the ending first. It always drove me crazy when people do that. Last time she recommended a book I was so disgusted I didn't make it past the first few chapters. It was The Snowman
How funny! Ok, you're off the hook for peeking at the end, then. I'll have to take issue with her telling you the story up to the end. I know this book isn't for everyone. I liked it, but I can tell it's pretty divisive. Thing is, if you had the benefit of being part of the story while it's being crafted, you might have enjoyed it as much as I did. I don't think you could enjoy it now if you did read it. But, there are plenty of good books. I don't read books if I'm not enjoying the tone or writing, no matter who recommends them.
OK, now I don't blame you for reading the end, but I do blame your sister for telling too much. A big pet peeve, people who tell you what happens in a book and still expect you to read it.
Well, I hope you find books you like here, and that no one gives away too much :)

I recognize that several of the books people are reading lately are ones I've seen for free on Amazon. Do you generally find that the freebies are good? I've only just gotten an iPad, so I'm new to ebooks and am addicted to downloading the free ones every day. But now I'm wondering if I should be more selective. And what do you do with the ebooks you've read? Do you save them on your ereader or delete them or what?
I'm reading
, #2 of a detective series set in Denmark .... it's definitely not a cozy! I liked book #1, so thought I'd continue the series.
back to the Western days - yahoo, round 'em up pardner with Riders of the Purple Sage - he is a good writer to bring the reader to the feel of the terrain and simple folks.

This was my favorite in the series. The series was SO George Orwellian.
