Just finished The Husband's Secret and am now reading The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic. Both are great escapes.
I just finished Dodson's "Original Sin," which is about a former FBI agent who was fired. His wife has recently died and he is now a PI. What makes it a bit different is that he has a daughter who is also dealing with her mom's death, and he's handling this badly. Plot is good (finding the killer so a man falsely accused is off the hook), with a twist. Set in the Indianapolis area, some Christian themes.
I am in the process of reading, A White Wind Blew.It is about the Waverly Hill Sanatorium that was an TB hospital close to Louisville. This place actually exists and has been featured on many of the ghost type shows. This book is about a doctor who uses Music to help his patients. This part is fiction. Not fiction: The building was first a TB hospital, then a Nursing Home that the state shut down by the state due to poor care. The book is well worth reading.
Just got Peter May's The Lewis Man and Jill Mansell's The One You Really Want in the mail. I've been waiting for Peter May's book for a while. It is book 2 in a trilogy and it was really strange, book 1 & 3 are readily available in the US but Book 2 was hard to find.

I have this to listen to, but have been putting it off since it's so long. What do you think of it so far?

I just finished the Yonahlosse Riding Camp for Girls by Anton DiSciafani, Still working on A White Wind Blew and just finished Charlaine Harris', After Dead, a coda for the Sookie Stackhouse series and for fun, I started Love Italian Style by Melissa Gorga. Yes, I have to admit that I am a Real Housewives fan and keep up with all the groups. I like some of the pop culture books...they are definitely not rocket science but can be entertaining.
I'm reading Crossfire by Dick Francis. I've had it for quite a while but have been putting off reading it. I guess it could be compared to saving a bottle of fine wine for a special occasion. Now I've got two Felix Francis books in my collection so I'm going ahead with this one.
Finished Love Italian Style by Melissa Gorga of New Jersey Housewife fame. It actually had some good advice in it. A quick read and I was curious.

I just read a new-to-me mystery author, G . M. Ford --Thicker Than Water
which I raced through in about a day and a half. Definitely read more of this series.
Just finished The Edge of the Earth by Christina Schwarz, a tale of a young married couple who take on the job of assistant lighthouse keeper in a remote California area in the year 1898. This book was a haunting story of isolation, secrets, unusual marine life and a question of a mermaid. Suspensful with beautifully developed characters. An interesting beginning and a cliffhanger ending.
Finished an oldie but a goodie today: And Be a Villain
. Also read a meh short story by an author I usually like --
Recalculating. The male character in that story needed to be snapped in half like a glow stick. Just sayin.
Just finished Detour, an autobiography by Cheryl Crane, Lana Turner's daughter and Lana, The Memories, the Myths, the Movies by Cheryl Crane with Cindy De La Hoz. Both fascinating, making reading the Niki Harper mysteries written by Cheryl Crane even more interesting as there are plenty of semi-autobiography references in these stories.
I'm reason a YA book titled Wonder. It is an amazing book about a boy born with a severe facial deformity. The book is told from the point of view of several people starting with the boy, August.
I read more middle grade books than cozies in November, but here's my complete reading list, including the latest Odelia Grey mystery (we read the first a few months ago).http://carstairsconsiders.blogspot.co...

I'm almost done with the new Odelia book and it's a good one.

jaxnsmom wrote: "I'm listening to
. I only recently started the series, and I love it."Don't you just love the series? I listened to it a couple if years ago - it ranks way up there in my list of favorites that sticks with you. Once you have finished the series, I would suggest watching the movies, too. The extended Swedish versions are fantastic, even with subtitles. The US version isn't bad either.
What I'm reading (or rather listening to) other than a cozy is Cat Daddy: What the World's Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love, and Coming Clean. Am hoping I will gain the benefit of his knowledge to help deal with my own incorrigible feline, who wants to rule the roost here (NOT!) with a heavy paw.
When I'm not reading a cozy, I'm reading another type of mystery. I recently read The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro that I thought was excellent. I'm also into Impressionist Art and this book combined art with mystery. A perfect combination for me.Susan Bernhardt
I'm almost done with
Sky Burial: An Epic Love Story of Tibet, which I picked up because I need an X author for a challenge in another group :) I've enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, and can't wait to finish it.

I just finished The Manor, Three Centuries at a Slave Plantation on Long Island by Mac Griswold. This is a historical biography of Sylvester Manor on Shelter Island, New York. It is more than 3 centuries of living. Fascinating in how people lived and managed and how the manor came to be and how it has survived in its many forms. A capsule of history.
I just finished
,young adult book, which I believe every child or parent of a middle school child, actually everyone should read. It is the story of a boy with a severely deformed face, and his first year at a new school. He had been homeschooled up until this time. It is powerful reading.
I listened to that one last year, Donna, and was disappointed it didn't win the Newbery Award :( I agree that everyone should read this book!
I was going to respond to the question from a while back (Dec. 4th) about what I thought about the book Crossfire by Dick Francis. I just saw the message today. For some reason it won't let me type when I try to "reply" to a comment. Anyway, I am a big fan of Felix Francis, and Dick Francis is probably my favorite author. So to answer the question, I liked Crossfire very much. I just can't reply on the website and I can't add the link on the mobile app. Just isn't my day.
I finished listening to Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, and am wondering why I didn't read it sooner. The narration was great, and added an extra layer of emotional appeal.
Just finished, "There's More To Life Than This, Healing Messages, Remarkable Stories, and Insight About the Other Side from the Long Island Medium, Theresa Caputo. That is one heck of a title! I found it very interesting and thought provoking.Am currently reading, Seduction, a creepy tale that goes between present time and the time of Victor Hugo, the famous literary icon. It keeps my attention so far.
Currently reading Call Me Mrs. Miracle by Debbie Macomber. I'm halfway through & it's very good. I want to finish it today since I'm off work.
Katherine wrote: "Just finished Burial Rites by Hannah Kent..."
What did you think of Burial Rites? I think I'll be reading it in another group in January and am hoping it's really good.

I'm reading Off the Grid, the latest Monkeewrench book. I'm listening to The Sixth Man, a King and Maxwell novel. Both are action packed and getting more intense.
Ohhh, I really liked both of those books, Jaxnsmom! The Monkeewrench series is one of my favorites, and I always hate waiting for the next book!
I know, I can't believe I didn't catch this one sooner. The Sixth Man is driving me a little nuts - too much going on, and I'm not sure it's all necessary.
My first book of 2014 is Fallen Masters by John Edward. Part of it is weird because it's set on "the Other Side." But it's an entertaining read.
I'm listening to Baldacci's newest book, King and Maxwell. The story is good, but like several of his other recent books, it has sound effects -- tires squealing, rain falling, gunshots -- that I find VERY distracting. I hope this doesn't become a trend :\
Just finished Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones which while a mystery isn't really a "cozy" due to the violence and hot sex that occurs to Charley Davidson, PI.,and grim reaper. The book was fast paced and makes me want to read the proceeding ones in the series so I can see how the relationships in this book came to be. It was a very entertaining paranormal mystery.

I'm reading the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison. I saw the author at a book signing a few years back and the book sounded good so I bought the first in the series. But it hung around on my to-be-read book shelf for a couple of years because... well it's a pretty big shelf and because it has demons in it. I don't really find them intriguing. I've never understood people who tell me that vampires are sexy. That dangerous vibe just didn't work for me. But Kim Harrison started a read along and a books sale so I read the two I owned. And found them really well written. I am enjoying the read along which continues through February. So now I am trying to fit cozies in between the urban fantasy series.

I'd say your book makes it a trend :) At first not too often, only a few scenes, but I agree they were distracting. The first one I heard was a gunshot, and I was looking around trying to figure out what it was - finally realized it was the book.

Yes! That was my reaction too -- and I live in a small 'burg where things like that just don't happen LOL
Fortunately, I've only noticed it with Baldacci's books so far. I hope the other authors that I listen to don't decide to go this route as well!
