What are You Reading Besides a Cozy?
Finished "Crossing Over" by Ruth Irene Garrett with Rick Farrant about a woman who decides to leave an Old-Order Amish community in Kalona Iowa. Very interesting. Did you know there are more than 235 Old Order Amish communities in 23 states and parts of Canada (about 150,000 people in 1,100 church districts) The Old Order Amish are the most strict. One Amish community can vary greatly from another depending on how the Bishop of each group determines the rules. That is why there are men and women Amish serving jail sentences in Ohio for attacking more liberal Amish and cutting off the men's beards, a great sacrilege to them. With the popularity of the TV shows like Breaking Amish and Amish Mafia, people are finding these people's way of life fascinating even though these shows are questionable in their representations.
Finished "An uninvited ghost" by Copperman. This was the 2nd in the series. Reinforces my disappointment in the series. Won't read anymore of this one. Am listening to "Medicus" while I walk each morning.
For at home, started "For the Cause of Liberty" today. For The Cause Of Liberty: A Thousand Years Of Ireland's Heroes
Just finished "Plain Secrets, An Outsider among the Amish" by Joe Mackall, a professor of English and journalism at Ashland University in Ashland County, Ohio. He spent 16 years living next door to a Swartzentruber Amish family, the most conservative of all Amish. He and his neighbors became friends. He tells this story with respect. He gives factual information about the Amish especially this particular group. I feel this book reveals how they live and why. This is no sensational story by a disgruntled former Amish person. He does tell the story of one young man of this group who decided to leave and his struggles to fit into the English world. We may not agree with how they live but this book gives insight into why they live as they do. I give it a 5 star rating.
I'm reading
for my MA - it's better than I thought it would be. Most of the books for the MA are quite chewy, but this is a fun read.
I'm reading Loving Mr. Darcy.
Besides reading cozies, I'm a historical romance fan among other genres.
I am currently reading bomb shell. I am currently on page 230 and so far, feel like I am reading two separate mysteries. I have never been disappointed with a book by Catherine Coulter, so I am sure there will be a connection very soon.
Currently reading Titanic Love Stories: The True Stories of 13 Honeymoon Couples Who Sailed on the Titanic
Elizabeth wrote: "Currently reading Titanic Love Stories: The True Stories of 13 Honeymoon Couples Who Sailed on the Titanic[bookcover:Titanic Love Stories: The True Stories of 13 Honeymoon Couples Who Sailed on the..."Now that sounds interesting!
It was very interesting & good, Melodie. I finished it today; a 4 star read.
I'm reading 'True Food' by Andrew Weil. As a vegetarian and something of a health nut, I'm always looking for healthy food that is tasty.

Glad to hear. I've added Titanic Love Stories to my tbr.

Earlier today, I finished
You Only Die Twice, by Edna Buchanan. It was one of the best page-turners I've read in a long time, and I was glad I had today off work so I could finish it :) It's not a cozy, but it's not really gritty and 'hard' either.
I broke my own personal rule, though, and read this book (#7 in the series) without having read books #1-6 *gasp!* (I needed a mystery title starting with Y for a challenge, and this was a discard from my library, soo... I took a chance LOL) I don't think I missed much of anything by not reading the earlier books, but since I liked this one so much, I'm planning to go back and read the others in the hopes that they're just as good.

Flannery O'Conner's Complete works. I just checked it out of the library. I do like the Southern authors. Southern Gothic is fun to read. It's dark but interesting.
I just finished reading Inferno and Death Angel. Inferno , i like because of the whole subject of Dante and the connections to medicine and chemical engineering. Every time i read Dan Brown it always make me max out my credit card and fly to Italyright away..some day, some day. I really love "Death Angel". We went to a wedding in Central Park earlier this year and it was my first time to see the park and some of its landmarks. I was pretty impressed and now reading on the book about the history of the Park was really really good. I love her book, they not only keep the suspense really nice but also they give snippets of New York history.
Just finished Elizabeth Berg's Tapestry of Fortunes. A beautiful book about 4 women who share a home, their hopes and dreams and their futures. The words flowed like melted buttered.
I've just started
Between Heaven and Texas, a prequel to Marie Bostwick's Cobbled Court series. I've really liked the books in the series, and I'm hoping this one is just as good.

I am now reading "The Prince of Paradise", a true crime novel about the Fountainbleu hotel heir, his wife and a ruthless murder. Very interesting and I love nonfiction books with photographs to help bring you into the story.
I just finished Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake
Non fiction essay
I loved listening to her take on life issues.
Just started
The Devil's Punchbowl
Dick Hill really immerses himself in the south while he reads this. 1:40 in and loving the story.
Finished two today: An Absolute Scandal
and Never Go Back
. Almost done with Hit Me
and am also reading Testimony of Two Men
, All About All About Eve: The Complete Behind-the-Scenes Story of the Bitchiest Film Ever Made!
and Laced with Magic
. I'm enjoying all of them but seem to be taking longer to get through them than usual.
I am currently reading The Patron Saint of Lost Dogs written by author and vet, Nick Trout. I am halfway through and like it and not like it. I know it doesn't make sense but I really like a lot of what I've read but am also irritated by some of the things I've read. I'll see what the end result will be when I finish.
Sallee, I've had two books like that recently. By the time I'm done, I'm either glad I finished it, or irritated that the irritating parts outweighed the good.
I just finished The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry which I really enjoyed 4*, and just started Between Shades of Gray.
