I am trying to read things that I maybe should have but never read. So far I have:

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (I know, I know. Sorry haven't read it)
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

message 3: by Rhyetta (new)

Rhyetta | 3 comments I would highly recommend The Count of Monte Cristo. What an excellent classic!

Literary Princess (literaryprincess) | 16 comments I'm shooting for reading six actual adult books rather than just the teen and juvenile I always read. The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson is on the list. And 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I think that man is brilliantly weird and it sounds like he's going to get the Pulitzer.

Angela | 29 comments Book meeting always has a few more books at it that sound good, but I generally only get around to reading a few of the Y titles. My goal is to read at least four adult titles. Plus I want to read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Annie Barrows.

Claire (addlibrarian) I'm going to try to read all the books that have been sitting on my to-read shelf for too long. I'm afraid I have no plans to tackle any classics this year...

Emily (crusader1776) | 4 comments I'm finally going to read The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King and The Hobbit - all by J.R.R. Tolkien.

I know, shame on me for not reading them yet. After those four, I'll look my 'to-read' list and do some cleaning.

I listened to all of these except for The Hobbit. Lot easier because I didn't have to pronounce or try pronounce the different languages used.

They can be nonfiction, right? I hope so or my list is blown. :)

I LOVED Typo Hunt! I'm a total grammar nerd though. :)

message 12: by Beth (new)

Beth (milbe) | 11 comments I am reading all of Octavia E. Butler's sci-fi and fantasy fiction. I started the Patternist series in December. I am enjoying those books so much I am going to read all her works. Not a long list but wonderful stuff.

message 13: by Brian (new)

Brian For as much as I love Shakespeare, I have read rather little of his work. No longer! This year I will be reading: The Merchant of Venice, King Lear, Julius Caesar, Othello, Macbeth, and one of the Henrys.

YES!! The Count of Monte Cristo is awesome! Nice choice.

Beth (batwater115) | 25 comments My official 6 will be the last 6 Harry Potter books. However, I really need to read Gone With the Wind. I've never gotten all of the way through The Mists of Avalon and Imperial Woman has been on my "to be read" list for years.

I really like Macbeth! Have you ever seen "The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged" movie by The Reduced Shakespeare Company?

message 17: by Brian (new)

Brian @Claire, I have not seen that, but I do have Patrick Stewart as MacBeth at home. His Claudius in Hamlet was amazing.

You have to check it out! MCPL owns it, and it's absolutely the funniest thing I've ever seen. It's three guys and they do all the plays in 90 minutes. Aaron is not a shakespeare guy at all, but he still loved it.

Excellent call! If I get through my 6 regular adult fiction books, I think I will pick up a few plays, too. I do own his complete works, after all.

message 20: by liko_2000 (new)

liko_2000 Technically, I have already read six books. But, I'm still trying to read more this year. I have plenty of books to check out. Granted, most of them are young adult or juvenile fiction, but I haven't been impressed with most adult fiction. I'm also looking into reading more plays.

So far, I have finished Seeing Redd,With This Ring (For Better or For Worse, #21),Quilt of Joy: Stories of Hope from the Patchwork Life,Quilt of Faith,The Looking Glass Wars,Violet Eyes: A Retelling of the "Princess and the Pea",Legend,The Phantom Tollbooth,Yotsuba&!, Vol. 10,Redwall, and The Graveyard Book
