Pitterpat | 1 comments A Mid-west/Tri-state book group sounds great. What type of books do you like to read?

Jill (knitandread) | 1 comments Hi! I'm moving back to IL after being away from 10 years. I'll be living in Kewanee. I'm a librarian and will be working at Blackhawk College's East Campus.

I tend to read a wide variety. My favorite contemporary authors include Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Neil Gaiman, Maeve Binchy...just to name a few.

Sharon | 1 comments Hi! I just discovered goodreads and this group. My bookshelf is heavily science fiction and fantasy now, but my interests are wide ranging.

Just this summer I received a Kindle Fire, and have discovered the joys of free ebooks and my genres have expanded. With nothing invested, I tend to try new authors and books I might not otherwise have read. I love to read, and free books feed my addiction painlessly!

Does anyone else feel this way?

Sharon

Chris Bunn | 2 comments Hi Sharon. I'm also a kindle fire owner and until I owned one of these wonderful nook readers I did not read very much hit when I did I enjoyed it. Now I find myself downloading as many books that I feel are appealing to me. Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith is one of the books I'm currently reading bit I tend to read more than one at once. Catching Fire is another I'm reading also

Chris Bunn | 2 comments Hi Jill. I'm also a dean koontz fan and have read Odd Thomas and am continuing the series. As far as Stephen king the only book I started reading is The Gunslinger but dont think I will finish it unfortunately but who knows. I may dive back in

Kathy Nickerson Hi,

Bonnie Rice (getolife) | 15 comments Hi Jennifer, I'm Bonnie Rice and I live in Quincy, just up the river from you. I write nonfiction, started as a freelance article writer and have self-published one nonfiction book--about being married to someone with bipolar--a niche I assumed was too small to interest a publisher. I'm working on another book on financial issues for families where one of the adults has bipolar. Still not looking for a publisher, but less sure that it wouldn't interest one.

Bonnie Rice (getolife) | 15 comments Yes, as you noticed on the other post, I'm in the Quincy Writers' Guild which is a rather small group that meets at the library the second Monday of each month. We are trying to grow the group since most of the members were there when it started 25 years or more ago and they are having trouble attracting younger people. They don't do much publicity, but then, most of the groups that happen in Quincy are that way.

Bonnie Rice (getolife) | 15 comments I know there are a lot of people locally who would be interested if we get the word out, but it's amazing how many writers don't have a web presence. I have a website and an Amazon author page and a Goodreads author account and a LinkedIn account and a Facebook author page and a Twitter account and a Shelfari account and probably a dozen others that aren't entirely current but I try. I've found books by local authors and can't even find a phone number in the white pages. How do they promote? How do they network? I don't have a clue.

Bonnie Rice (getolife) | 15 comments I sent you a friend request--just don't say that you don't know me--I've been grounded before by Facebook. I also liked your Facebook page and followed you on Twitter. I AM NOT A STALKER.

Bonnie Rice (getolife) | 15 comments I think some people are paranoid about putting too much information online. I'm obviously not. I don't think anyone is in a lot of danger by advertising an email address to be contacted through. And there are some people who, sigh, have yet to discover the internet. I can't live without it.

Bonnie Rice (getolife) | 15 comments Hey, when your book goes live on Amazon, make sure you set up a Shelfari account. Amazon takes information from your author profile and book page on Shelfari to add to your book page in the store.

M.M. Gavillet | 2 comments Hello to everyone! My name is M.M. Gavillet and I live in Nauvoo, Illinois. I read mostly YA urban fantasy or paranormal romance. I enjoy novels by Cassandra Clare, Aprilynne Pike, Chanda Hahn...well anything urban fantasy except for anything with too many vampires. I'm also an independent author for YA urban fantasy novels and currently have six novels out. You can check out my author page here at Goodreads and from there, you can click the link to my blog.
