Kimber (kimberlibri) | 785 comments I've read it and it's actually still sitting on my bookshelf but I don't remember whether I liked it or not. I must have because I kept it but that also could be due to the fact that I liked the look of the book rather than the actual content. If I ever get thru the 154 books waiting on my eReader and the 43 on my bedroom floor I might check it out again. :D

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 133 comments Thank you to Goodreads where we can rate a book and make some comments that may help others but definitely helps us to remember why we liked or disliked a book.

message 7003: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I am thankful for the same thing as Laureen is. The amount of times that I can't remember if I have read a book and I check it out on GR and find that I have, that I rated it, and sometimes I even review them. The reviews or comments I have written help me to remember the book. :)

very handy to have this book site.

Gretchen (eab2012) I finished The Forever Queen The Forever Queen (The Saxon Series, #1) by Helen Hollick over the weekend. I thought it was miles above I Am the Chosen King (The Saxon Series #2) by Helen Hollick I Am the Chosen King.

I also finished Wrath of the Furies Wrath of the Furies (Ancient World, #3) by Steven Saylor . It was the weakest Gordianus novel of the entire series. I am going to be disappointed about this one for a while.

I'm moving on to The Golem and the Jinni (The Golem and the Jinni, #1) by Helene Wecker The Golem and the Jinni

Wow, that's such a great book, hope you'll enjoy it.

I just finished Genghis: Lords of the Bow, and loved it. Almost as good as #1 in this series, Genghis: Birth of an Empire. I'll definitely continue reading the series, this Genghis was an amazing character.

Allison | 1704 comments Well I haven't read much of anything in the last couple of months but I started The Call of the Wild by Jack London and I'm really quite sad :(

message 7028: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I have finished A Time For The Death Of A King and The Golem and the Jinni (which I wasn't as impressed with as many people appear to have been) this week. I need some lighter reading as the holidays approach since I will find myself with little spare time. So I started The Three Crowns. I have a big soft spot for Jean Plaidy.

Shannon Elizabeth Heffner (thepinkroseoftexas) | 571 comments Reading Désirée by Annemarie Selinko Désirée by Annemarie Selinko. At nearly 700 pages, it's full of information about the lives of the people closest to Napoleon Bonaparte. While it isn't quite as detailed as Sandra Gulland's Josephine B. trilogy it's definitely worth a read (the Josephine B. trilogy is like Penman's The Sunne in Splendour for the Napoleonic Era). It's interesting to see the relationship between Napoleon and Josephine through the eyes of Bonaparte's former fiancée, especially once you've read Gulland's books!

I enjoyed Henry VIII by Margaret George. Her book on Cleopatra is also good. I haven't read the Mary Queen of Scots book yet. Her books are large and full of detail. In the Henry VIII book, Catherine Howard's part comes with some detail that is quite intimate. :)

Gretchen (eab2012) I had a rather productive day considering the double trouble in my house had their nap interrupted twice today. I finished All Roads Lead to Murder: A Case from the Notebooks of Pliny the Younger (and then ordered two more books about Pliny) and A Shrine of Murders (and ordered the next two book in the series). Once the holidays are over, I'm going to have a back log of library books.
I'm starting The Empty Mirror.

message 7047: by Kimber (last edited Dec 17, 2015 08:57PM) (new)

Kimber (kimberlibri) | 785 comments I just finished up a mini-run of non-history books. One dystopian novel that gave me chills, The Circle. Imagine Google, Amazon, Facebook and all the other social media combining into one massive company: The Circle. It's 1984 for the 2000's.
Had to lighten up after that so I ventured into Christopher Moore's Pine Cove Series: Practical Demonkeeping, The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove and The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror.
Greatness.
Now I'm reading Queen Hereafter: A Novel of Margaret of Scotland.

Gretchen (eab2012) I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on Queen Hereafter: A Novel of Margaret of Scotland. It's one of those books I'm not really sure about adding to my TBR.

Edit: I guess I have it on my TBR but I am still not sure about reading it. The whole Macbeth thing doesn't really spark my interest. Shakespeare has got to be one of the main reasons I couldn't bring myself to be an English major.

If I've got the timeline right...and it's a bit confusing..it looks like this takes place after Malcolm Canmore has killed MacBeth and taken back the throne. I don't know a lot about this period of history and am only a few chapters in but i'll let you know :D

Funny, I've developed a love for Shakespeare, as long as I don't have t read it :)

We've been going to the local Shakespeare Festival every summer for about 10 yrs now. Every yr they do a history a comedy and a tragedy. This yr is Henry V for the History
