Pragya, the audio format of A Fine Balance has the same narrator as Birds Without Wings, which I just completed and gave five stars. Tempting....but repeatedly I have been told that A Fine Balance is so terribly depressing, so I hesitate. I absolutely adored Birds Without Wings. I believe this will be my favorite book this year! Here follows my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I will now start A Night to Remember. I am listening to the audiobook.

I will try to read it and see if I can get through. Thanks for warning me, Chrissie.
Pragya, I will be curious to hear what you have to say about A Fine Balance. And Ishiguro too. I have read his books. I cannot remember which.

I am waiting for 1Q84 in audio format at the library. I wish my library had audiobooks on AFB & BWW.
Today at the library I picked up three books I had been waiting for a long time. Naturally, they all came in at once, at a time that I have 5 books to read for a class. The Sisters by Nancy Jensen, The Twin by Gergrand Bakker, A Voyage Long and Strange: Rediscovering the New World by Tony Horwitz and The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Selznick. Don't think I'll get through them all before I have to return them. I still have <<The>> Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam to finish and Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks to read for my Feb. offline book club . . . and those five books by Paule Constant to read for class.

more than I did. It seems that it's one of those love it or hate it books.

Ah Susan, I also have it in book form. I am intrigued- wonderful and horrible. Hmm, looks like I have to find it out for myself. :)

I just keep thinking about A Fine Balance. Tell me why it is wonderful, please. Did you read it or listen to it?
Autumn wrote: "I read sure did I read it in 5 hours.. I sat down to read it after cleaning when I closed the book I looked up it was dark outside and the house a disaster.."Ha ha!
I read it. It was about four people living in India at the time of Indira Ghandi's administration and how they eventually get to know each other. It is beautifully written and is extremely descriptive of the life there.

(sorry for downer, but I was so disappointed I need someone to commiserate w/!) Maybe you'll have a different perspective on it and be able to show me the error of my ways
I got Breakfast with Buddha for my book club, Uncommon Criminals to read with my middle school girls and Paper Towns as an audio book (also to keep up with my middle school girls.)
I like how you're reading what the kids are reading, Pam. I wince when I see parents express surprise at the content of the popular teen fiction.

It's my new obsession. Nothing wrong with book obsessions right? At the moment I'm very interested in the Rwandan genocide and of course South Africa.
I also grabbed these two today along with my holds:
Memories of My Melancholy Whores The title makes me giggle (I can be immature sometimes :D) It'll be my first book I've read by that author and I also got
Half of a Yellow Sun for the group read in the Around the world group since I forgot to grab it last time.

Autumn wrote: "I enjoyed The Language of Flowers i read it last year.. It wasnt completely what i expected but it was definitely different than other books i read.."That seems to be the general concensus :)
Snuck away to the library after getting my brakes done.. picked up The Underside of Joy and Nightshade from hold.. I read nightshade a few months ago.. I'm trying to read the sequel Wolfsbane but I was so lost I needed to refer back.. I also picked up Turn of MindBefore I FallandLean on Pete

I have A Secret Gift which I'm reading for my book club (I'm so glad when we pick books I can get from the library!) I picked up The Boy In The Suitcase because a friend recommended it. Now I just need time to finish them both.
