Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4039 comments I got Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry today morning.

message 202: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Pragya, the audio format of A Fine Balance has the same narrator as Birds Without Wings, which I just completed and gave five stars. Tempting....but repeatedly I have been told that A Fine Balance is so terribly depressing, so I hesitate.

I absolutely adored Birds Without Wings. I believe this will be my favorite book this year! Here follows my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I will now start A Night to Remember. I am listening to the audiobook.

Uh oh, though I will be reading the physical book, I didn't want to get a depressing one. Ahh!! :(

I will try to read it and see if I can get through. Thanks for warning me, Chrissie.

message 204: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Pragya, I will be curious to hear what you have to say about A Fine Balance. And Ishiguro too. I have read his books. I cannot remember which.

Susan (chlokara) Pragya wrote: "I got Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry today morning."

A Fine Balance is wonderful and horrible! What a powerful book. I read it in book form.

I am waiting for 1Q84 in audio format at the library. I wish my library had audiobooks on AFB & BWW.

message 206: by Susan (new)

Susan (chlokara) Today at the library I picked up three books I had been waiting for a long time. Naturally, they all came in at once, at a time that I have 5 books to read for a class. The Sisters by Nancy Jensen, The Twin by Gergrand Bakker, A Voyage Long and Strange: Rediscovering the New World by Tony Horwitz and The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Selznick. Don't think I'll get through them all before I have to return them. I still have <<The>> Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam to finish and Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks to read for my Feb. offline book club . . . and those five books by Paule Constant to read for class.

message 222: by Susan (new)

Susan (chlokara) I read it. It was about four people living in India at the time of Indira Ghandi's administration and how they eventually get to know each other. It is beautifully written and is extremely descriptive of the life there.
