That's a great idea, Judy! I love perusing others' TBR shelf and selecting a book for them to read. :)

I peruse other peoples shelves way to often... But I like that this thread is up :) I might be reading another book for the challenge.
Ooooh I love being nosy and tripping through other people's shelves. I've found some great books, and friends that way!

Kat wrote: "Ooooh I love being nosy and tripping through other people's shelves. I've found some great books, and friends that way!"So have I :)
Already there! Kimberly, I just did a book comparison with you, there's some excellent PA books in your list - ideal for the ''Roughin' It'' theme!
How about Ashfall, Ashes, Life as We Knew It, The Forest of Hands and Teeth or The Passage?
Judy wrote: "Kat, you are so on the ball! :-)Well, I took a little different angle and discovered that you have a lot of books about dogs....so, how about ruff ruff ruffin it...No rules, remember?
Also, any..."
It was like a red rag to a bull....what could be more Rough than a Post-Apocalyptic book?
But the dog idea is a great one - I have two on my TBR that would fit too!
I'm here!Kimberly, from your "must read asap" shelf, I found one that would fit the Roughing It category - A Thousand Sisters: My Journey into the Worst Place on Earth to Be a Woman.
If anyone wants to go through my TBR list and find me something for the Roughin' It theme I'd love it! I am reading Snowdrops right now for the December theme.
I'll get onto that Kate! I saw We Need to Talk About Kevin on your TBR - I read that book a few months ago and thought I wouldn't enjoy it, but it was so engrossing, emotional and had a very surprising twist!
I think I might go with
but that depends on availabilty. I was thinking of reading
or
but I want to read them this month lol :)

I have a couple of dystopian books on my to be read shelf. Would Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari fit the bill of roughing it?
Sally906 wrote: "I have a couple of dystopian books on my to be read shelf. Would Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari fit the bill of roughing it?"Oh definitely - the outdoor survival aspect is roughing it enough! It's a good book too, I really enjoyed it.
I haven't got all my TBR books on my goodreads shelves yet - a task for the upcoming holiday break I think. I also have a blog with a couple of hundred book reviews on it - I am slowly working my way through logging them here too - maybe not all of the reviews but certainly the fact that I have read them.As for Goodbye Sarajevo: A True Story of Courage, Love and Survival I am leading a discussion on it in May or June so will be reading it a bit closer to the time :)
Does anyone want to choose me a book. I was going for Gypsy Princess but would welcome other suggestions. Ta v muchly.
Susan, I only had time to look at the first page of your to-read shelf. I would pick Memoirs of a Geisha for you. I gave it 5 stars.
Um I have a question can we use this thread ot help each other find books to be used in other challenges in the group?

Ah, thank you, Judy! :)
Karendenice wrote: "I've just recently joined this group. Is there a place where the monthly themes are posted?"We've had some changes to our monthly reads. Instead of chosing a book that everyone will read, we vote on a theme and everyone will read a book from their TBR that will fit the theme and discuss it.
You will find the themse for upcoming months on the group calendar.
January theme is "Roughing It', and February's is "Globe Trotting".
I'm just wishing for Thursday so I can start my Christmas break.Mr Kat is already on holiday and it's not fair *sobs*
Thank you for posting a link to the group calendar. I have to admit that I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed and confused by the group of late. I can't seem to keep track of all the different themes/challenges, etc. I don't think I like having the book for February announced so early because then I lose track of the conversation feed for January (and December). I also seem to remember reading something about "buddy reads" - can you remind me how that works again? Thanks!! I love the group, btw.
I really don't know that I have anything that would be considered "roughing it". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

((hugs)))"
Thanks - two more days to go now!
Karendenice wrote: "I really don't know that I have anything that would be considered "roughing it". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated."What about:
All Quiet on the Western Front (they certainly weren't comfortable!)
Katie Up and Down the Hall: The True Story of How One Dog Turned Five Neighbors into a Family (to steal a joke, ruff-in it!)
And that's two from just the first 3 pages of your TBR :)
Oh I completely forgot, I also have One Dog at a Time: Saving the Strays of Helmand - An Inspiring True Story
Here's another to consider Karendenice: The Heretic's Daughter. The women accused of witchcraft and their children that were thrown in jail, survived somehow in horrid circumstances and in hunger. Their story is definitely one of "roughing it".
Thanks everyone. I'm making a list now of everyone's suggestions and going to see if I already have the books or I have to get them from the library. I'd forgotten about One Dog... I've heard that it's a great book. I've also been wanting to read The Heretic's Daughter. I think these have been on my to-read shelf for quite a while. :}
Ok, I had to give up on Strawberry Fields: A Novel. So, would someone like to take a look at my 'to read for mt tbr challenge' shelf for a Food, Glorious Food book? If you can't find one there, my next priority shelf is 'library-wishlist.' Thanks!
Cheryl in CC NV wrote: "Ok, I had to give up on Strawberry Fields: A Novel. So, would someone like to take a look at my 'to read for mt tbr challenge' shelf for a Food, Glorious Food book? If you can't fin..."I found Picnic on Paradise (any recipe suitable for a picnic would work). Another choice from your list could be Angry Candy.
I am trying to get my books picked out for all my February Challenges but I am having serious problems with the theme Globetrotting? Anyone have any suggestions of what I might read or clue me in a little more about what the theme means? Thanks : )
Ooh, thanks for the nudge - I should see if I can find a 'classic' that trots the globe.... Anyone who wants to peek at my shelves - especially 'to read for Mt TBR challenge' - is more than welcome!
Cheryl in CC NV wrote: "Ooh, thanks for the nudge - I should see if I can find a 'classic' that trots the globe.... Anyone who wants to peek at my shelves - especially 'to read for Mt TBR challenge' - is more than welcome!"Your Mt TBR shows 0 books, so I looked at your To-Read shelf instead and found one set in Tokyo: Norwegian Wood
Oh, yeah, I prolly should delete the just plain Mt TBR in favor of the non-exclusive 'to read for .. TBR...' - Agh I'm having so much trouble figuring out the best way to do shelves for my needs. Tx Janice.
I missed the theme of globe trotting for February, won't have a problem finding a book for that one, but where is the post for the theme announcement? Are any others out yet - like for March, April etc?
