There's only 6 that I haven't read.

Slayermel | 664 comments I'm at 18 now and like you Natasha there are a few on there that I have no desire to read what so ever. :0)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) I'm at 35 read. Some I'd like to read and some I have no interest in reading.

message 104: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenofthebookworm) So far 20,but have a few of the others in my tbr mountain

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
I have read 38 of them and have another 7 on my TBR list, one of which I am currently reading. Of the other 5, I haven't yet decided whether I want to read them or not.

message 106: by Pollyanna (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) | 94 comments So far I have only read 11, but a lot of these are on my TBR list and I also own some of them already.

message 107: by Em (new)

Em (emily27) | 45 comments I've read 20 so far. I agree with previous posts about Twilight. I understand they are popular but I can't understand why. The first one was alright but they just went downhill from there. No, actually the second book was the all-time low and then the last two got a little better. Enough ranting from me though :)

message 108: by Meg (new)

Meg (moonorchid) | 1 comments I've read 16 of the 50 books on this list. I'm not really interested in reading the Harry Potter books because I have seen the movies and reading the book after seeing the movie is usually hard for me. I keep waiting for the book to get to the parts I know are coming up, thus making the book too slow for me. Maybe in the future I'll try and read the books.

Nor do I have any interest in the Twilight series. But I think thats my own snobbery about how popular and insane the craze has become. I've thought about it cause a lot of my friends have read it...so we'll see.

"The Curious Incident of the Dog at Nighttime", "The Time Traveler's Wife", and "The Poisonwood Bible" I have bought and am going to be reading them in the near future. The rest I am interested in and will probably get to it eventually.

I am not finished with it yet, but I am currently reading "Olive Kitteridge" and so far I love it and am surprised it's not on the list.

Mercy | 42 comments I am at 28 :) I loved Haddon and Hosseni and Twilight a lot. But i agree, Twilight movies are a torture to watch.

message 110: by Em (last edited May 17, 2010 12:22PM) (new)

Em (emily27) | 45 comments Read:21 TBR:16

Some I'm not really that interested in.. (although maybe I should reconsider since they're so popular)

message 111: by Katey (new)

How many of the above list have you read?
Which ones have you been wanting to read but just haven't? How many are there? None of the others is on my TBR list yet, though there are several that feel like "should"s to me.
Which book do you think don't deserve this popularity? Clearly, the list is slanted to relatively recent books. Don Quixote isn't here but The Lovely Bones is??? And, in spite of their overwhelming popularity, I found the HP books not to be worth the time to read. I read the first, and settled for the movies after that. I'm glad they're there, because they encourage so many kids who would otherwise be reluctant readers. But just not worth the time for me.
What book have you read, really liked, and you would expect it to be on the list but isn't?
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guinshould be, but I can't say I expected it.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
I'm up to 36on the current list, and I have 4 already slated to read.

message 114: by Sunflower (new)

Sunflower | 174 comments 41 and there is probably only one more that I have any intention of reading!

message 115: by Crystal (last edited Oct 26, 2010 06:22PM) (new)

Crystal Naked, Me talk Pretty, Slaughterhouse, Glass Castle, Time travelers, Lord of the Flies, One Hundred Years are the ones I haven't read.
How many of the above list have you read? 44
Which ones have you been wanting to read but just haven't? The Glass Castle. Of the 6 I haven't read, I started 2 of them and didn't like them. The other 3 just don't interest me.

Which book do you think don't deserve this popularity? One Hundred Years - ugh. I abandoned it.

What book have you read, really liked, and you would expect it to be on the list but isn't? The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

I am at 21 now. I have not looked at the thread in a while so it was nice to come back and see that I (however unintentionally) read a few more.
I have now read one of the Harry Potter books!

message 117: by Christy (new)

Christy (christy_t) | 44 comments I've read 18 on this list and there are 6 more on my TBR list.

I find the fact that there are 2 David Sedaris books on this list startling as I tried to read one of his and just didn't connect with it.

I expected to see way more classics on this list rather than mostly recent releases. I wonder if this is because most people just review what they have just finished and aren't going back to review all of the books they've read.

message 118: by Brad Theado (new)

Brad Theado (readerxx) 35 out of 50.
There really isnt anything on here that I would want to read that I havent already.
The Twilight series doesnt belong. Not that I didnt enjoy it but I wouldn't put it in my top 500 let alone 50.
The Stand is one of my all time favorite books along with Great Expectations.

message 119: by Kayla (last edited Sep 03, 2010 11:17PM) (new)

Kayla I've read 31 out of the 50, and about 9 or 10 I would like to read.

It's good to see a lot of classics on there, though it's hard to find anyone around who actually enjoys reading them. The goodreads classics group that I'm in is practically dead. I tried to find other classics groups that had more active discussions, but it turns out my group is the most active of all the others. Shame. ):

message 120: by LynnB (new)

LynnB | 1769 comments I've read 40 of the 50. Of those I haven't read, I think there are only two that would interest me ... The Glass Castle and The Giver ... though I don't think they are high on my list to read. I have read one book each by David Sedaris, Dan Brown and Stephanie Meyer and none of those are authors with stories that made me want to read more.

message 121: by Shelli (new)

Shelli I have read 34 of these and not all that I've have I liked...in fact one I absolutely hated...I felt better when I realized this is a "popular" list, because while several would be in my all-time favs(Harry Potter series, Middlesex, ATSSuns, TKAMockingbird among others)many I don't consider that good...some like Twilight were fun...not great writing though.

Susan | 3756 comments Mod
Updating a few of my answers. I'd read 28 when I first posted in May. Just discovered (October) that I've added 3 more since then.

And in May, I said that none of the others was on my TBR list. But now that I've read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, I'll definitely read his A Thousand Splendid Suns

message 124: by Shelli (new)

Shelli Susan...both are great reads...don't read them back to back though...give yourself a little time in between....I read TKR first and never thought ATSS would be as good...but it might have been even better!

Surprised at some of these.
I haven't read any of the Harry Potter or Twilight books, so those are out.

Read To Kill a Mockingbird but it was so long ago I forgot everything about it. I seriously need to read up on some more classics!
I've read of Mice and Men and that's it. Many of those listed are on my to-be-read list.

There was, Danna. I got that list in 2008 so it's been a few years and GR has gone through a number of changes. I'm not sure if I can find where I got that list from and if I can, I'm sure it would've changed significantly. :)

message 129: by Danna (new)

Danna Oh, alright :) Thank you!
