I'm listening to
I got it while audible was having a sale. I've over looked it for a few weeks but I like it a lot more than I thought I would (so far)!ok I finished it and I liked it a lot more than I thought would! 4 stars. it's definitely worth a listen if you like haunted houses and old family secrets!
Listening to Lisey's Story. I like it but it wasnt over afer my 14 hour car trip and I only have a 10 minute ride to work. Its hard to get into listening to fiction when there is so little time. I think I might go for a ride this weekend :-)
Tom- if your tech savvy check out what audio book options your local library have that are downloadable to your smart phone or tablet. I have two from local library and state library for free and I can listen to audio books anywhere home, car, walking or even at work. I can get through many more titles that way.
I'm listening to a rerun.
This is a classic. One of my favorite horror novels by one of my favorite authors.
I'm currently listening to the Harry Dresden books on audio and am absolutely loving the series so far. I'm up to Summer Knight and can't believe I never knew this series even existed until the beginning of this year!
I've listened to that too, Mike. that's cool, Michelle. I've heard of the Dresden books but I haven't read any of them.
I'm listening to Deadman's Road. It's about a gun toting Reverend. And zombies. And humor. I like it a lot so far.
Charlene wrote: "I'm listening to Deadman's Road. It's about a gun toting Reverend. And zombies. And humor. I like it a lot so far."I heard one of those stories--I believe that was the name of it--in a horror anthology. I really like it.
I get to listen to a lot of books as I work ten-eleven hour shifts and get to have my headphones in the whole time. I'm currently halfway through the fellowship of the ring and about to read The Knife of Never Letting Go, which, though its a YA read, I've been told is similar to the horror genre. Does anyone have any suggestions for horror books to listen to, ones that have a really good reader who sets the mood?
Absinthe, I really liked 14, the narrator for Hell House was absolutely superb!Bedbugs was good but I wasn't too crazy about the ending. We Have Always Lived in the Castle was very good, A Dirty Job & Bloodsucking Fiends were both good & funny. I really like the white trash zombie series but I can understand why some may not. Angel, a zombie, eats brains to stay "fresh" so she's only rotting & decaying when she hasn't got any. but I love them and they are so funny! My Life as a White Trash Zombie is the 1st one. there is currently 4 in this series. I got all the books I mentioned from audible so if you need to know who the narrators are, just let me know and I hope this helps!
Just finished listening to Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game. Now listening to another of the Modern Scholar lecture series, Decline and Fall of Rome
I'm listening to The Stars My Destination. Old-school "Men are adventurers and a woman's place is at her man's side" scifi, but there's some good stuff in there. Doesn't translate very well to the modern age.
I've finished the Wolf and I'm onto A Dirty Job. It's my first Moore book. Michael, have you listened to The Wolf's Hour yet?
I'm thinking about downloading The Shining to listen to on my commute to work. I've never read it (but I've seen the movie). What do you guys think: is it good as an audiobook or would it be better to physically read it? I normally prefer to read horror in print but I wanted to get your opinions first

Good to know, thanks!
Finished listening to my commute book, the Modern Scholar lecture series Decline and Fall of Rome. Now listening to Empire of Gold : A History of the Byzantine Empire by the same author/lecturer.

I'm starting The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury.
I've always had a hard time listening to audiobooks, but I've also gotten frustrated with not having enough reading time these days, so I went ahead and got an Audible subscription earlier this week. Now I can "read" while I do menial stuff.
I've been listening to The Girl with All the Gifts, and the narrator is fantastic—I'm actually paying attention instead of drifting off into my own thoughts. I think that's going to be key for me going forward, finding engaging narrators to hold my attention.

My normal commute is twenty minutes each way, so a total of forty, which I've been filling with those lecture series or something similar. Been on a major history kick for a while now, from the early Roman empire on.
I think I have The Halloween Tree in the original hardback. Might read it as a Halloween special. :)
I started reading The Historian
To be honest, I've now switched to the audio in an effort to get through it. The pace is quite slow, which can be fine, but I'm not exactly gripped.:(
Just finished Empire of Gold : A History of the Byzantine Empire. Now listening to The Modern Scholar - Odyssey Of The West I (1) Hebrews and Greeks (Volume 1).

I tried to read it but the same thing happened to me. I'm going to try the audiobook as well.
http://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/The...I just used a credit of this mammoth book of vampire stories. it's 61hr. and 40 minutes long!
I'm almost halfway through The Angel's Game. So far, I think I liked the first one better, and this one seems to be much darker than the first. We'll see how it goes. :)
Charlene wrote: "I'm almost halfway through The Angel's Game. So far, I think I liked the first one better, and this one seems to be much darker than the first. I'd be interested in hearing what you think when you're finished.
Finished listening to The Modern Scholar - Odyssey Of The West I (1) Hebrews and Greeks (Volume 1), now listening to The Modern Scholar - Odyssey of the West II: From Athens to Rome and the Gospels. After this only five more to go...
Been listening to the audiobooks of Clive Barker's "Books of Blood" which has been a blast. Very awesome listens. I just got done listening to "Wool" Hugh Howey. I guess it is more sci-fi than horror, but it is post-apocalyptic so there is some crossover. It was awesome, but def. left a lot to be desired, in my opinion. And the narrator's voice on some of the characters was a little annoying, especially the main protagonist.
I've noticed that the last message was dated Jan 10, 2012! Doesn't anyone listen to books anymore? I've always loved being read to, since I was a young boy. My mother used to read me Hans Christian Anderson and the brothers Grimm, while my father read Edgar Rice Burroughs to me. When I was at boarding school (from the age of five until I was ten), we always had a story read to us before bedtime. I've never looked back really. I'm always buying audio books. I have an account with Amazon's Audible and pay a flat rate for two credits a month and then purchase whatever book you want - no matter what the cost. Just finished Shatter by Michael Robotham. One of the best thrillers I have ever read and listened to. Check it out!
I am listening to
about 40% in and waiting for something to happen. as usual King tells a good story but this one seems to drag a little.some other recent ones

Thank you, Michael. Yeah, my son bought me the book, but I still haven't got around to reading it yet, so therefore I may get the audiobook. I understand about it dragging. I'm going to stick my neck out here and may even upset a few apple carts, but I don't think King has written a decent book in the last twenty-five years. They're so overblown now and need cutting by a good third. His writing - not the plots - needs trimming badly as it generally contains a lot of superfluous rubbish. Don't get me wrong, his early meaty stuff was tremendous (The Stand, It) but these days a good two-thirds of them are in need of good editing. The most recent good one is 11-22-63 which is a lovely homage to Jack Finney, but again, it needs shortening to make it a better book. Anyway, I'll check Revival out and report back.
