What Else Are You Reading - December 2011 Edition

I know a lot of people really like this series.
Jonathan wrote: "Finsished The Long Walk. Up next, 11/22/63 by Stephen King."I just finished the book about three hours ago, and thought about 300-400 page of the book could have been cut, making the story a lot better, not screwing up the story's overall plot or message.
Just finished reading: Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. 'Twas ok. Just starting reading: Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book One) by Kevin Hearne. High hopes!
Just finished listening to: Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) by Suzanne Collins. Most definitely the middle story.
Just starting listening to: Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, Book 3) by Suzanne Collins. Have to prepare myself for this - I can't imagine a complete happy ending.
On the toilet read: Looking for Calvin and Hobbes by Nevin Martell. Average about 1 & a-half pages per sitting.
Comic of the moment: Locke & Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. Stephen Kings' son is winding a very interesting tale here. Recommended. Next, The Boys by Garth Ennis...

Been horribly behind on reading recently, due to finals, but I've just finished the masterpiece that is Cloud Atlas, and I'm tucking in to the Isaacson biography of Steve Jobs. I like to think that the secrets of infinite wealth and influence are contained therein.

About Steve Jobs- I'm not sure he is a person to emulate. ;)
Jenny wrote: "Cloud Atlas... Sigh. Wish I could read it again for the first time!"You were absolutely right when you praised it in last month's thread; it is obscenely perfect. It's one of those 'stealth' titles that secretly get my family to read 'genre fiction'.
"How i became a famous novelist" by Seve Hely. I needed to laugh, and this one is providing that. It takes an amusing look at the publishing industry by roasting it in good humour. Light reading, certainly not Tolstoy or anything, but fun satire.
Under the Poppy was so good it hurt a little.I'm now overcoming my fear and suspicion of classic sf with the 1966 Nebula award winning Babel-17, which is pretty good so far.
I'm still working through 1Q84. I'm finally into the last chapter of Book 2. So far, it's gone the way I expected...I'm looking forward to see what Book 3 brings, since I'm not sure what's left per se...
There are lots of books on my get round to it shelf.Once in a while I will stumble upon a book that isn't well known
but that I very much enjoy.
(For instance A Book Dragon by Donn Kushner or
Gary A. Ballard's The Bridge Chronicles)
They tend to be quirky books.
If folks have come across similar books
I'd be interested to hear about them.

Please, this is not the forum for this. Let's move the hate elsewhere.
Geesh. Kevin invited me to a Sword and Laser forum. I didn't realize this is what you meant by swords. So what if two swords love each other? Whose business is it? Why are we even clashing swords over this?
That was so two pages ago Will.
Also, sup Aloha. Where you been hiding?
Heya, Ala. You're here, too! Time for me to leave. I've gone rogue, Ala. With the exception of 1Q84, I've been reading books without a forum. You know it'd come down to this.
Been here for a while ;)
You go with you bad self and your rebel, cannibalistic ways :P
Got tired of copy/pasting your reading list everywhere?

Yes, I'm devoting my energy into reading really long books. Now, I'm going to do a really long list once a month in all the forums that we share.

I'd love to continue fencing with you, but we'll get yelled at for Foiling the purpose of the thread.

Ala wrote: "I'd love to continue fencing with you, but we'll get yelled at for Foiling the purpose of the thread."Agreed, this is hardly the place for a sword fight, which is good because I'm running dangerously low on double entendres.

Yessum.
Currently reading an Urban Fantasy anthology, Dark and Stormy Knights, while I try and figure out which four books to read next in order to finish off my yearly goal.
Need me some quick ones.

I have finally found what has lately been rare to me. A book that I cannot put down. I'm really enjoying The Gone-Away Worldby Nick Harkaway. I got it from the library and was going to purchase it for my kindle since I like it so much. However, I'm in shock. The ebook is more expensive than the paperback and the hardcover. That high price just sticks in my craw. Sigh
I really love the characters. I want to study with a Master Wu too. And the writing is wonderful. I find myself smiling to myself the whole time I am reading.
I'm reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes because I just saw the second movie and am rewatching the BBC/Steven Moffat Sherlock. It's really hard to put down.
I started both of the S&L picks this month, but I'm having a hard time getting into either of them. I got side-tracked with "Life of Pi."
Currently reading Charles Dickens - A Life and am listening to Enders Game as an audiobook, enjoying both so far.
Walter wrote: "I'm reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes because I just saw the second movie and am rewatching the BBC/Steven Moffat Sherlock. Darren wrote: You'll be pleased to hear that there is a new run of Steven Moffats Sherlock in January
I've been eagerly awaiting it. And yes, hopefully BBC America gets it to us soon.
I'm currently reading Jag är Zlatan: Zlatans egen berättelse that i got as a christmas gift. I really enjoy it so far since I'm a big fan of soccer and Zlatan is one of my favorite players.I'm also (thanks to the offer to get 1 book free) listening to 11/22/63 through Audible. I'm usually not big on audio books, but i decided to give it another try.
Just finished The Dark Tower series on Audible. Trying to decide between 1Q84 and 11/22/63 with my credit. Reading Infinity Blade: Awakening and Perfect Shadow: A Night Angel Novella novellas.
I've been on a reading frenzy, gotta love the holidays. Finished up Appassionata, The Borrower, Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse, some short stories, and am plodding my way through The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood.

Pretty much agree on 11/22/63. This is a case of no editor willing to challenge King. The middle sections really drug on too long. Still a good book though.
Up next - Contagious by Scott Sigler. This ought to be a whimsical little bloodbath of a read.
Due to getting a stomach bug over the holidays I've spent the last couple of days in bed trying to distract myself from not eating food. On the plus side, I had plenty ploughed through Elantris. Being somewhat ravenous made me feel more a fair bit more sympathetic for the hunger of the Elantrias, but also made me a bit more aware of my own hunger at the same time. Not sure I can say how much that affected my overall enjoyment though...

Good to know, since I just bought 1Q84 from Amazon. Also I have finished the Night Angel Trilogy, which I thought was a intresting trilogy, but not anything that I not read before.
