Am I the only one who wants to read a great novel that isn't a series??

I was fascinated by the whole City of Bones series and when they got to the third book that was supposed to be the last book I was satisfied with the outcome though with all good books you never want them to stop...I was annoyed to find out that all of a sudden they are adding 3 more books to the series and I wasn't that impressed with City of Fallen Angels.....It didn't add anything to the already amazing series. Then clockwork angel comes out and now I'm in limbo waiting for books from each series to come out and trying to find other books to read in between. Unfortunately almost every book that sounds amazing is a part of a series.Seems like a real pyramid scheme to me.Tsk-tsk...Don't authors realize how hard it is to keep up with multiple series and how a bookworm can't just stop reading until the next book in your series comes out a year from now.I'm in the middle of 7 series rite now....Off the topic of City of Fallen Angels-anyone know a good novel I can read that isn't a series???

no i do too but it seems that all the addictive novels out there are part of series or you think they are not then 6 months later you find out the author has published a 2nd one and has 3 more planned and guess what it is a series and you didn't know it but now you are addicted and can't quit!!

This discussion is so true guys!
Right now I am on a break from series books too. So I have been reading some quite fantastic stand alone novels like:

Beastly by Alex Flinn Jinx by Meg Cabot Jekel Loves Hyde by Beth Fantaskey Reincarnation by Suzanne Weyn Teen Idol by Meg Cabot
Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) by Sarah Mlynowski is a must read.
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins As You Wish by Jackson Pearce Babe in Boyland by Jody Gehrman Megan Meade's Guide to the McGowan Boys by Kate Brian Shut Out by Kody Keplinger The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols Forget You by Jennifer Echols Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire Love Story by Jennifer Echols A Girl Like You by Gemma Burgess North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley

Anything by Melina Marchetta is brilliant for a stand alone! Looking for Alibrandi is beautiful, then there's Jellicoe Road, I can't imagine anyone not liking Saving Francesca, or the Piper's Son which is a companion novel for Francesca, but both can be read by themselves. Finnikin of the Rock is one of the best books I've ever read and it can be read as a stand alone even though it is now a Trilogy. Seriously, though, Melina Marchetta is brilliant.

I've read interview why Cassandra Clare has decided to expand TMI for another 3 books. And I don't blame her! I like it! Yes, it is frustrating to wait a whole year for the next book, but if I love story and characters I like the idea to meet them again. And meanwhile to think over plot twists))
Sometimes when a series ends I can't let go of it and start looking for some fan fiction. So for me it's good that there are more books scheduled, because I won't try to sidestep. Fanfiction is sooo time-consuming!

The best stand-alone books I have ever read are Graceling and Fire by Kristin Cashore. They are companion novels (with Bitterblue coming out soon!) and they are absolutely amazing! I have read both novels about 5 times each :)

The Adventures of Fan Boy and Gothgirl by Barry Lyga is a good one I can think of too.

Why don't you just read series that are already complete?
Like the Immortals series by Alyson Noel. Harry Potter is also good. The Maze Runner series by James Dashner would be good. The Modern Faere tale series by Holly Black.
But if you are really set on reading single books Going Bovine by Libba Bray is a good choice. The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I don't read single books much because they leave me with an empty feeling with all that finality.

almost every book on my bookshelf is a part of the series. i just finished Clockwork prince and now I'm wating for city of lost souls and then of course, clockwork princess. in between I'm waiting for ,Pandemonium, insurgent, hallowed, fever, the golden lily- I think I'm going to go insane trying to keep up with all of them. Not to mention the excruciatingly long waiting period between each book. if you're looking for stand alones then you can try, the space between by brenna yovanoff, the scorpio races by maggie stiefvater, anna and the french kiss and lola and the boy next door by stephenie perkins.

Funny, I was actually thinking the same thing, and kept this is mind while writing my books. I am making a trilogy, but am keeping it such. There will be NO MORE. And same goes for my other book, but there will only be one.
But, I do believe Entwined by Heather Dixon is a one book wonder, and I found it truly heartwarming.

I think we all hate to wait a year for the next book to come out, especially when they end like OMG! and you feel like screaming. On the other hand there are some series that are like separate stories each book, all stories are in the same world and usually the characters are all somehow connected, but the spotlight changes from book to book, so you get closure and aren't desperate for the next book to come out to know how it ends. Like Ilona Andrews' The Edge, or her novellas Kinsmen.

Devilish by Maureen Johnson not a series book, but dont know if youll like it

I'm getting tired of series, thats why I'm reading only the first book even if there are more (this is only for YA series), like Vampire Academy, Hush, Hush, Wicked Lovely... and it seems I'm gonna stop MI after the last one, CoFA.

Forgotten by Cat Patrick is a stand alone book and it's pretty amazing. But yeah, I know what you mean, sometimes I'd prefer closure and sense of mind when reading a book.

Legacy of Lies & Don't Tell.
No Time to Die & The Deep End. all by Elizabeth Chandler
They try to act like a series but they work as stand alone books. I don't know what you like to read but even though the titles aren't extremely catching they have mystery suspense and paranormal elements.

Books series are good, usually the first book is the best. But it's getting kind of too much when so many authors that write books like The mortal instruments makes it into a series of books. Can't they just write one simple book? and If they have so much to write, why not make one thick book with many pages? sometimes making too many books just spoil the excitment on reading the story.

Ayeiska You have to remember that books that are really big put people off from reading them. People don't jump up to read the dictionary or War and Peace. Bl ...more
