Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm going to move right in to January, now that we know our read for December!

January's reading month is for YA Romance. YA books are classified generally about teens, on average between the ages of 14-21. So we'll be introduced to young innocent love, which is so fun to read.

Here is a listopia of YA Romance books that will help you get a sense of what types of book this might be.

Mixing other YA genre's is fine, provided it has a strong romance in the book.

As in the past, here are the group guidelines:

1. Please make sure your nomination meets our monthly Gemre: January is YA Romance!
2. One nomination per person
3. Book must be available in both print and ebook form, and available worldwide.
4. If nominating a book in a series, the book must be the first book and not one in the middle.

Nominations start now!

NayNay Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver it recieved outstanding reviews.

message 4: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Good picks! I've never heard of Major Crush, but it sounds cute.

message 5: by Fran (new)

Fran I was trying to find something that focused on romance and this one seemed to fit, and I really like Jennifer Echols :)

message 6: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm a big YA reader, but I've never read Jennifer Echols, so it would be a new area for me.

message 7: by Fran (new)

Fran I loved Going Too Far by her- so good!

message 8: by Leea (new)

Leea I nominate Looking for Alaska by John Green

Thanks for putting the group reads together Wendy, I can't wait!

message 9: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor - its supposed to have a bit of a fantasy element to it, but has gotten good reviews

message 10: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Wherever You Go by Heather Davis looks like a good, if sad, one.

message 11: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Nov 23, 2011 01:04AM) (new)

message 12: by Fran (new)

Fran Stacia ~ Symphonic wrote: "Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1) by Simone Elkeles"

This one is only .99 on Amazon right now :)

message 13: by Leea (new)

Leea I really really want to read that one Stacia. Yay!

(I will say a lot of the books i've been reading have people holding hands on the cover... haha!)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I almost wanted to nominate a favorite YA romance instead, just so I knew that it wouldn't be a dud, but whatever. Might as well go with one I haven't read, and I liked her Perfect Chemistry series, so here's hoping this one is as good.

message 15: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I am currently reading Waterfall (River of Time, #1) by Lisa Tawn Bergren right now and it's surprisingly good. It's YA romance with time travel. I would recommend it.

message 16: by Gwennie (last edited Nov 23, 2011 01:27PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It's hard to not nominate one I've already read, lol.

message 17: by Mishelle, 'The Book Bag' (new)

Mishelle LaBrash (mishalabrash) | 1520 comments Mod
I second Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1) by Simone Elkeles ... it sounds fantastic.

message 18: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I totally forgot to send out the mass email for this, so I'm sending it out now... oop, my bad!

message 19: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I recommend Timeless (Timeless, #1) by Alexandra Monir , which is the 1st YA time travel book I have read. There are a couple of songs written by the author in the book which were recorded & now available on iTunes. I think that is pretty cool b/c I listened to it after I finished the book and it took me back to those particular scenes.

To nominate a book that I haven't read would be Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver . This has been on my TBR list for awhile now and it sounds interesting.

message 20: by willaful (new)

willaful I've been wanting to read Anna and the French Kiss.

message 21: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) GOod picks, which one are you going for Kay?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Wendy F wrote: "It's hard to not nominate one I've already read, lol."

I was the same way. There are three favorite YA romances of mine that I would have liked to have nominated, but it seems like several of us have read them recently, so it would be sort of redundant. I get nervous nominating something I haven't read in case it's not as good as one I loved and might kick myself for not nominating after the fact.

message 23: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's what always worries me too.

message 24: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Wendy F wrote: "GOod picks, which one are you going for Kay?"

Oops. Sorry to throw in 2. So, I pick Delirium.

message 25: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Okay! I'm going to nominate So Over You by Gwen Hayes , because I think it looks adorable and seems to be mainly a romance novel.

(Plus I already have this on my Kindle, haha.)

Aroma with Love | 123 comments I nominate Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

message 27: by Fran (new)

Fran Wendy, it does look really cute. I just picked it up for my kindle- At 1.99 it seems like a great deal.

message 28: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Thank you Aroma! But as much as I want to read that book (another that I already own, haha), it's not YA. It's contemporary 'chick lit' about a professional business woman I think. Stacia, or anyone who's read it, please correct me if I'm wrong...

message 29: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) After today I'm going to close nomiations and put up the poll for tomorrow.

message 30: by Leea (new)

Leea Yay! Can't wait to vote and then read our group read.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Sorry Wendy that I didn't answer you sooner. It's been a busy couple of days. Yes, the Kinsella book is adult, not YA.

Aroma with Love | 123 comments Wendy F wrote: "Thank you Aroma! But as much as I want to read that book (another that I already own, haha), it's not YA. It's contemporary 'chick lit' about a professional business woman I think. Stacia, or an..."

Oh okay, as I have no idea what YA stands for....

message 33: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It stands for Young Adult, I'm sorry. I should have been clearer.

message 34: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm going to be working on the poll in just a moment.

message 35: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Okay all! Thank you for your nominations, it looks like we got some fun books on the list.

Here's the link to the group poll, which will run until 12/4. I can't wait to see what's chosen.

message 36: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) And our winner is, dum dum dum duuuuuummmmmmmmmm....

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor

Thanks for voting everyone!

message 37: by Leea (new)

message 38: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Yay! I've wanted to read this one. :)

I need to get it from the library.

message 39: by Dee (new)

message 40: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I've already read it so I'll be able to jump in the conversation immediately.

It was really good.
