I've read the Merry Gentry at least twice thru now. I love Merry and her men quite a bit. I would like to see more of their story unfold though.

If you are after a good sidhe fey see lie and unseelie series, my suggestion would be Karen Marie mornings fever series. These are hands down the best I have read in a good while. I have read the merry gentry series too and I loved them, this series might not have as much romance as that but what there is worth the wait, mmmmmm Jericho
barrens is my favourite male hero. He is as good as Doyle and frost combined. So anyway, get the fever series you will love it.

Ladyacct Terry Spear
Jennifer Estep
Jaye Wells
Amber Benson

You know though there is no one like Anita ;-))))))

Dhfan4life I'll be honest with you and say that all these suggestions are good. But basically look for anything in urban fantasy or paranormal romance. Those are the two genres I read from and find a good majority of the paranormal books I read.

Carolyn Crane Nothing has scratched my Anita Blake itch like the Secret McQueen Series by Sierra Dean. If you have an ereader, I would suggest this one for sure. It totally brought me back to the excitement I felt while reading LKH.

Paris (kerbytejas) you could also look at
Sherrilyn Kenyon
Rebecca York - moon series
Lori Handeland - early - Night Creature books were better then the later ones
Heather Killough-Walden - Big bad wolf series
Lorraine Kennedy
Christine Feehan
Lora Leigh - Breeds series
Larissa Ione - Demonica series
Sydney Croft

I just looked this up, it looks really good, and really cheap through my kindle. Are they long books or novella length? You never can tell when buying on the kindle.

Carolyn Crane The main books are full length. There's a Christmas one I haven't read that might be a shorter one. Have fun!

You've read the series? Blue Moon, The Killing Dance, etc? Also might like Kim Harrison series...Dead Witch Walking :)

Hayat I love LKH's Anita Blake, especially the earlier books and I've been looking for a similar book/series until a friend suggested Jill Kismet series by Lilith Saintcrow. Although there are no vamps in the series, there are plenty of other supernatural being and Jill Kismet is a hunter, trained by the best to go after things that go bump in the night. Like Anita Blake, she helps her local cops to solve grisly murders. The Jill Kismet series is complete. I've only read the first book in the series so far but if you like dark Urban Fantasy you might want to give this series a try. :)

Night Shift (Jill Kismet, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow Hunter's Prayer (Jill Kismet, #2) by Lilith Saintcrow Redemption Alley (Jill Kismet, #3) by Lilith Saintcrow Flesh Circus (Jill Kismet, #4) by Lilith Saintcrow Heaven's Spite (Jill Kismet, #5) by Lilith Saintcrow Angel Town (Jill Kismet, #6) by Lilith Saintcrow

I just finished a series by Lara Adrianne (Midnight Breed Series) VERY GOOD as well

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I am starting to read the LK Hamilton's / Anita Blake series, there are a TON of her books in this series. Is it worth reading? I just finished reading Lara Adrianne (Midnight Breed Series) and liked this one as well.

message 26: by Jill (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jill I love the Anita Blake series soo far, I am only up to cerulean sins however.I have been informed the books tend to disintegrate after a while into nothing but sex. It depends I guess if that would kill the series for you. I am willing to find out :)

Dhfan4life I say try it out and find out Lynda if it is something you will like or not. Heads up as it is urban fantasy and there isn't really a HEA affect to AB's world. More like a female version of the game Doom I think.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Everyone!, I will try it when I am done with my Midnight Breed Series. I am on the last book in that series. Has anyone else read it, pretty good books :) Jill: You mentioned the books tend to disintegrate into nothing but sex...hahahah, that sounds great! although, to much of a good thing can be bad :)
Dhfan4life: you mentioned the books are urban fantasy, I am not sure what that means?
Thanks all
Lynda

message 29: by Jill (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jill Lynda, hahah yeah I don't have a problem with ith either. Maybe its because up until a certain part, Anita is one kick ass heroine and there is some awesome plot, then people miss it when they replace it with the sex. If you read it hope you love Richard as and Jean Claude as much as I do. Also if now you are thinking its all sex, i don't believe there even is sex in the first book, theres tension though.
And with the remark above about urban fantasy, urban fantasy is supposed to be paranormal/ fantasy modern world without the focus being on romance but the world building and stuff. Not girl meets werewolve in a crazy world they deal with some crazy stuff fall in lust then love then live happily ever after for example. I mean the interesting stuff in the anita blake books are her world, that she is a necromancer etc not that she is in love with a character.
I hope that sort of helps.

message 30: by Gail (last edited Jan 19, 2012 12:20PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gail I see someone mentioned Lilith Saintcrow, but they didn't mention the Dante Valentine series. Dante is the ultimate kick ass heroine!
Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow Dead Man Rising (Dante Valentine, #2) by Lilith Saintcrow The Devil's Right Hand (Dante Valentine, #3) by Lilith Saintcrow To Hell and Back (Dante Valentine, #5) by Lilith Saintcrow Saint City Sinners (Dante Valentine, #4) by Lilith Saintcrow

You may also like Kim Harrison's Hollows series. One of my all time favorites;-)

Jill you summed up my thoughts exactly on the urban fantasy front. Which is essentially what most of Hamilton's books are. Save for her short story in Never After, I don't think she has ever written a PNR type of story before. And I will add the lack of action and sense of self over the span of the books in that series annoyed the crap out of me. The sex itself wasn't bad. Just the need for it in just about EVERYTHING. I mean she couldn't even do simple things without that crossing over so much. I'm no prude but it's like can you do anything without getting it on any more? Which just didn't seem the case. So I divorced myself of the series.

message 32: by Jill (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jill It will be sad, if she loses her personality. I love her sass and dryness. It would be sad if it did get covered up with sex. However I haven't got there yet so I will keep going. I have found that the speed in which i read the books is slowing down. I wonder if this has anything to do with a drop in interesting plot. Up to cerulean sins now. Hopefully I don't hate it.

Yes that helps!, I did like the Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrianne. So, I will give the books by Hamilton a try :-) If I grow tired of them, I will jump to something else :-)

message 35: by Taji (new) - rated it 4 stars

Taji Pershard Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. The main character is a sidhe seer. The love interests are a fae prince and another supernatural being. These books are also tied into her Highlander series.

Yes but they pick up again and the last one was great but Obsidian Butterfly (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #9) by Laurell K. Hamilton was my favorite and the last was like it - Anita and Edward being bad ass- I call the sex books the honeymoon phase - She might be a succubus but it would be perfectly fine for me if she just mentioned having lunch and she's on the lookout for dinner -)

See, I am always happy when I read about people who still enjoy the books. Really it takes me a lot to NOT like a book. So I am sure I will still enjoy the whole series. But I am not just dedicated to reading Urban fantasy, so maybe that makes it easier for me to like them.

message 39: by Ladyacct (new) - added it

Ladyacct Jill, I thought Flirt was a great Anita, (though the price for the story on the Hardcover - not so much - it would have been nice to have a short Merry the Fairy in there to kinda supplement) and I loved Skin Trade (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #17) by Laurell K. Hamilton too. But you start reading Anita for the story line and bad assinist (is that a word?). Now don't get me wrong I read erotica but that was NOT what I read Anita for. I'm glad I stuck it out though because it LOOKS like the author is going back to story telling with bad ass thrown in -)

Yaaaay!!!
I also have to say, I have waited far to long for a Merry book. But apparently thats what she is writing next. I really need my Rhys fix, and Doyle, and Frost, maybe some Mistral. Ah hell just all of them please.
I will stick it out with Anita, because I really loved her in the beginning and I even have my husband reading the Graphic Novels now, its nice to share something with him so I will have to keep it up for that alone :)

Ladyacct Believe it or not my dad reads Anita (not Merry though) and liked them till she went all honeymoon on him.

Shawn Try Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters/Were Hunters series. They actually start with the book "Fantasy Lover", but it is not listed as the first official book. It is a long series just like this one. The reading order is on her website. Good luck with all the choices to choose from. I have read a lot of the series that have been suggested, but haven't updated much on this site yet.
