Thanks I do like the Greek Mythology/ gods and goddesses angle. I will try to add the next book to one of the challenge's i do next month or I'll see if i can add it to my "seasonal" challenge.

I know what I'm gonna recommend are young adult/children's books but have you tried Rick Riordan's mythology series. They are quick reads and actually pretty well written. My son and I read the Percy Jackson series together; we are now working on the Kane (Egypt mythology) family series and the Heroes of Olympus series.

I'm ready to start right now. Do you want to discuss as we go or when we're both done? Should we set up a thread in the Dare you to Read section?

message 754: by Iris (new)

Iris (ipro) | 277 comments Ok, update time. I've finished two more form my recommended list.

Cowgirls Don't Cry (Rough Riders, #10) by Lorelei James Cowgirls Don't Cry - I'm gibing this one 4 stars. I could have given it more, but honestly I was disappointed that Brandt McKay was to insensitive to make the request he did. Especially when he supposedly has loved this woman for years. Last time I checked when you love someone you want to cause less pain and anguish, not add to it. However, I really really wish I read these in order! This is the 3rd in the Rough Riders series I have read thus far and I must say Ms. James does not ever disappoint. Unlike Long Hard Ride and Rough, Raw, and Ready, Cowgirls Don't Cry was less erotic and dare I say raunchy and more sweet and romantic.

Also checked off the TBR list this weekend was Tempting the Beast (Breeds, #1; Feline Breeds, #1) by Lora Leigh Tempting the Beast - 3 stars
I enjoyed reading this, however, there were times when I wasn't too fond of the heroine, if you could call her that. The characters and storyline were well thought out and well written. And yes, it did make me want to go out and get the next book in the series.

Currently reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, but paused in order to read a book by our ask the author of the week. However, I can see why it's such a popular book, so I will be picking it back up as soon as I'm done with my current book.

Okay, I will start it in the morning. I'm cool with doing it either way, discussing during or at the end. If we decide to discuss it while reading it, we should set up a thread. It seems to work well, not having to search this thread for our posts. Let me know if you want me to start the thread. I am looking forward to reading this with you!

Alyssa (jynx66) | 52 comments I just finished A Hunger Like No Other and enjoyed it. Once I understood what the main guy's major malfunction was, he didn't seem like as much of a jerk as I originally thought.

Now...it's on to Dark Lover!

Iris, I hope you continue with the series. It gets better and the 3rd book in the series, IMO is the best book out of the series - Elizabeth's Wolf.

OH - I have to totally agree with that statement. In fact, I liked it so much that the only reason I kept reading the next 17 books was in the hopes that one of them would be as good as this one. Nope. While there were others in the series that were pretty good, I was mostly disappointed.

Tiffanny I really liked the Chase Brothers Series, and then there's one more with Nathan, one of the main characters brothers, it's Petal Georgia I think, but I ended up really like them =)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments I finished First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones, my buddy read with Gigi. I thought it was really good and gave it four stars. I want to read the second book in the series now.

Grace (bookslikebreathing) | 102 comments Hi Pam,

I just finished City of Bones. It was the best mindsuck of a book that I have read in a while. I spent half the time wanting to punch Clary and the other half just loving the story and the book.

I think I am going to move on to Ravished by Amanda Quick now.

message 769: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Tiffanny chose Party Naked for me and we read it together as a Buddy Read. I really liked it- short, sweet, no drama, just a sexy love story. Thanks for joining me Tiffanny!

Melanie (Moviemavengal) (moviemavengal) | 31 comments This has been my first time doing a challenge, and I am LOVING it!

All my books so far have been 4 or 5 star reads for me.

I read
Twenties Girl as a buddy read with Nancy which was tons of fun.

Really enjoyed an older Jennifer Crusie, Tell Me Lies, and I just finished Your Scandalous Ways.

Nancy recommended One Night Is Never Enough which I'm about to start. Since it's the second in the series, I had to read Seven Secrets of Seduction first.

message 771: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments Just finished The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins for the Buddy Read. Thank you, Lanh-Din for this pick. I've been meaning to read this for awhile. It was definitely an interesting read for me. Very outside my comfort zone, both YA and distopian fiction. I gave it 3 stars. I liked it but had major problems with it. But interestingly enough, I've also found myself talking about this book more than most. So a really good read in the sense that it got my intellectual juices going a little bit more than usual.

I agree - I think buddy reads make everything more enjoyable. Because even if you don't like the book, it's great to discuss it with others. Thanks for joining me! Since we bought the trilogy at such a great price, we should probably keep reading at some point. I'm not in a huge rush to do so, but let me know when you decide to.

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1966 comments I finished my buddy read with Cathy tonight of One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost. I really liked it, one of the best of the series. I give it 5 stars.

Thanks for the rec and push to read it, Cathy. I'm still enjoying our chat session. I'll check by our thread tomorrow to see what you thought.

I'm going to try to get to my second pick this month. We will see. I am way behind on my reading!

Pollyanna (polly8) | 300 comments Hey Moviemavengal I finished The Graveyard Book 2 nights ago and gave it 5 stars, this is my favourite of Gaiman's so far, I love how vivid his imagination is and I think Nobody Owens will go down as one of the greatest literary characters. Alexis (LexaReads) | 375 comments Hey Polina I finished My One and Only today! It was really good. I can't lie though, I couldn't stand the main girls personality at the beginning... maybe she does that on purpose though. I also thought the end just kind of felt rushed it felt like the entire book focused on their unfixable problems then at the end she's like all of our problems were fixed and everything was perfect. Other than that though, I loved the story! I'm probably going to read Slave to Sensation next because I keep getting it recommended and need to stop putting it off ;) Thanks again!

Books read this month:
Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth Cry No More by Linda Howard My One and Only by Kristan Higgins

message 779: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (pebblesy) Finished Angels' Blood last night - stayed up a lot later than I should have because I just couldn't put it down! First time reading a book by this author and she was fantastic! There were parts of the book where you never actually found out what the full story was but I wonder if this was setting up some of the plot for the next one, which incidentally I am just searching for on Amazon to buy for my kindle now :) Thanks so much for the recommendations Kimberly

Alexis (LexaReads) | 375 comments I Polina I finished Slave to Sensation this afternoon and all I can say is thank you for giving me that little push to finally read it! Idk why I've been putting it off, I guess the summary confused me and I thought it'd be too hard for me to enjoy. But, I was wrong I absolutely loved it! I'm talking stayed up till three to read then forced myself to go to bed since I had to be up in four hours. I'm going to try to read Water for Elephants sometime this weekend but I'm not sure if I'll get to it or not. Otherwise I'll read it over the next week or so. Thanks again!

I didn't like the non-changeling books as much. So Bonds of Justice and Blaze of Memory were not my favorites of the series. But I LOVE the rest of them.

I'm so glad they keep getting better! I always worry when I read a first book in a series that I love because then I get even more disappointed when the rest stink. I'm glad I have multiple people telling me that the books are great! It'll push me to continue reading them sooner ;)
