Two great reviews, Sara. I love Malorie Blackman. I love the fact that she writes about black children, without their ethnicity being a big part of the story (except of course in Noughts & Crosses and sequels)

Thanks Julie, some great reviews. I'd suggest The Brilliant World of Tom Gates or The Donut Diaries. by Dermot Milligan (actually by Anthony McGowan, Goodreads has this listed incorrectly) for children who love Wimpy Kid. Like you, I find the language very American, but as you say, they do motivate children to read. Also, http://www.wormworldsaga.com/ may have some great possibilities in school.
