I would rephrase all of this as: some people are threatened by some people.

Félix (habitseven) I am not threatened by intelligent women. If I were, I certainly wouldn't frequent this establishment.

Illegal imigration sympathizers who maintain fences don't work really frost my balls.

Fences don’t work? So all of those East Berliners who drove around in two-stroke cars and ate stale bread for forty years should have just strolled into West Berlin and gotten themselves a breakfast burrito? They must have been embarrassed, having spent all of those years trapped behind a fence that didn’t work. And what about all of those crazy Jews in their concentration camps? You want to talk about suckers.

Also, prisoner-of-war-sympathizing assholes with bedazzled iPhones who couldn’t find the dipstick in their Prius who claim that torture doesn't work really need to get a life and a clue. Torture does work. It’s been around for twenty thousand years. Shit that doesn’t work goes the way of the dodo after a few years.

I think Kanye's been beaten around the head and shoulders one too many times.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments I think that in some cases paddling in school is justified.

(and not just because i had an extremely hot art teacher in the 8th grade)

message 72: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I went to a private school where they allowed paddling, and the kids were abnormally well-behaved, but I'm not sure if that was the threat of paddling or the threat of hell (religious school). I'm not sure how I feel about it; my step-dad used to spank us when we were kids and I was terrified of him.

I'm presuming it never hurt you Kevin, and I know it never hurt me. A good paddle will get its message across without harming the paddlee.

I suppose if we're going to compliment the Berlin Wall, this is the thread in which to do it.

message 75: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i agree jim. i think about it and i deserved every paddling i got in school (and i got a lot) but very few for the same thing. because i learned from each one and knew the repercussion for my actions. did some of the teachers go overboard? sure, a few egotistical power hungry ones did. i never got actually injured. i am in the school system at least once a week to volunteer. time outs just do not dissuade bad behavior and unfortunately not alot is happening at home to discourage it either

message 77: by Jammies (new)

Jammies I suppose it's fairly non-controversial to say that Clark sucks, so I won't.

message 78: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) The Berlin Wall was 87 miles long. The border with Mexico is 1,969 miles long. Imagine policing a fence 1,969 miles long to the extent they guarded the Berlin Wall. It's pure folly and political gimmickry. Food for demagogues.

My mom supported every paddling I got in school too, and she didn't always know what they were for.

I can't speak to every instance of torture in the history of humans, but I've read enough about torture in the "War on Terror" to know that it does not work. Every useful piece of intelligence we got was gotten not through torture but through establishing a non-torturous relationship with a detainee. People who are tortured will say anything to get the torture to stop. Maybe some of the intelligence you get that way will turn out to be accurate, but you will also be getting so much bad intel that it will take you months to figure out what's the good intel and what's the bad intel. Meantime the clock is running, new terror plots are being hatched, and billions are being spent.

Everyone in the Bush administration who claims torture works/worked is covering their own ass, because they know that ultimately torture is not legal.

message 92: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
Everyone who advocates torture needs to be waterboarded, transported here and there on a plane naked, with a blindfold and a butt plug, and subjected to cold water treatments, deprived of blankets and sleep, then we'll reevaluate their advocacy.
