Once Upon A Time - ABC show
I'm checking it out. There is also the NBC (i think) show Grimm that looks semi interesting. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1830617/
I think the NBC one is the one that developed after talks to adapt Fables: Legends in Exile fell apart.
They both might cancel each other out, but both look interesting.

I am looking forward to checking out both Once Upon a Time and Grimm. I did not realize that the Fables adapation fell through - I'm disappointed!
I plan on giving both shows a try. Once Upon a Time looks like a new 10th Kingdom to me (sort of), but I don't know what to make of Grimm. I'll have to check it out and see!
Today's New York Times likes both this series and Grimm on NBC, though it gives the edge to Once Upon a Time.
Super excited that both start soon saw another preview for Once Upon a Time and it just looks so cool
The best test of a show -- Once Upon a Time was over before I knew it (even my husband said, "Is it over already??"). It left me wanting more.So far, they are weaving the fairy tale with present time gracefully, and the way they have incorporated Henry & his book is the stuff of fairy tales.
I'm really looking forward to following this series. This is the series Haven probably wishes it could be.
Grimm is just around the corner!
Okay, so I finally saw it. It was much better than I thought it was going to be. I actually liked Emma, which considering the fact that I hated her character on House.
I loved all the touches - like Sister with a pear and not an apple. The Little Red Riding Hood as "loose woman".
I loved Lana Padrilla. I enjoyed her Boomtown, but it is wonderfull watching her camp it up here. I hope that the writers don't make her lying. A one dimension villian is so boring.

I'm loving it!! Very creative and interesting so far. Grimm was okay, I might watch a few more to see where it goes, but OUAT is amazing.
It feels like Once Upon a Time had some serious plot development and creative thinking during its inception.Grimm has the saving grace of an interesting and amusing sidekick, which is a fun twist and will keep me watching... for now.
Did anyone else notice all the babies in the storyline?! I don't mind cause I love babies, but it's kind of funny!
I actually find myself rather thankful that my cable company has On Demand, so I can watch either whenever. If I miss it, and I usually do, I can watch it later.
Yeah I think Grimm is On Demand for us, too. Some of my friends have said it isn't really worth it, though, so I haven't rushed to start watching it, because we all have similar tastes.
Are you guys still watching this? I really love it! I like all the little twists they add to the classic fairy tales.
I'm really curious as to what will happen next in Once Upon a Time! So far it's really great! Haven't watched Grimm; is it good?
Yes! And now he has almost every character indebted to him. It's getting quite tangled. I'm just waiting for it all to fall through.
I'm really invested in the Snow/Charming storyline! Next week we'll see the Huntsman. I wonder if Rumples will be involved again. They will also adapt Aladdin and Belle and the Beast, I can't wait!
Really enjoying this series as well, especially the way they're intertwining all the characters from different stories. What with the (very tasty) French huntsman having an, er, personal relationship with the Queen and also making Emma a deputy, I foresee a serious conflict of interest!
Maeve wrote: "I love this show. I want to find out about more characters!! Imagine what they'd do with goldilocks... a shoplifting foster child? Who knows!"They did Goldilocks on Grimm. She was guilty of breaking and entering. Haha!

JS, Rumples is my fav. He's messing with everyone.lol.
I was a bit bothered by Prince Charming's back story but other than that I've loved everything about it so far Rumple is a very scary villian much more so than the queen/mayor. The actor is doing a spelendid job with the role. My absolute favorite character is Henry though.
I'm hoping that Gram comes back. I was a bit disappointed by that as well. Hopefully it was just a cliff hanger for the next show.
I think he'll be back. First off, the creators of Lost are the creators of this show, so I never trust when someone is actually dead. And when she pulled out his heart, I think she pulled out his emotional, loving heart not his beating heart, because couldn't Emma feel it beating? I don't know I just think that something is going on.
They're breaking my heart. The endings of the last two episodes have been abysmal. But I keep coming back for more, so they're doing their job.Is it true it's not coming back until Jan 8?
Emily wrote: "Is it true it's not coming back until Jan 8?"Likely. Most television shows since the Writer's Strike a few years ago have a winter hiatus around the holidays. Makes sense; most people are more concerned with their respective holidays and spending time with friends and/or family than keeping up with their shows. The ratings were suffering and I think we all have an idea of how much the ratings make or break our favourite shows. (I'm looking at you, FlashForward.)
I love Once upon a time and Gimm, i just joined this group and have already been wacthing both. i thought that Emma might have really found true love, but then the queen(evil) killed him in cold blood:(. i really hope he isnt dead, that would be saddening;(. he was actually remembering his past and now emma will never know the truth, or will she, rumplestilkskin(sorry ihave no idea how to spell it) kinda freaks me out, he sparlkes and his voice haunts my every dreams........Sorry if i creep you out...
Robert Carlyle (Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold) is a creepy bastard. So don't worry.
You're not alone.
He really needs to cut out that sparkling shit. ...And that voice. *shudders*
Agh! I can't believe she killed him. I'm starting to think her character is totally unredeemable. We still don't know what Snow White did to her, but it can't possibly justify all this mayhem...
I am simply adoring this new series. It's filled with magic and wonder along with some sinister darkness. Whereas Grimm strikes me as more paranormal, dark crime fighting, Once Upon a Time fills me with hope for fantasy and whimsy.I'm watching both shows and enjoying each in their own right, but if I could only pick one, Once Upon a Time would definitely win out.
In confession, I haven't read the Grimm tales and feel like I don't know many of the original stories being tipped on their heads in each of the shows. Can anyone recommend collection or volume of stories to read for base material? ABC is releasing a book (http://www.cafepress.com/onceuponatim...), but I'm curious what my fellow Goodreaders would recommend.
I send forth my gratitude in advance.
Honestly, the best way to find the "source material" for Once Upon a Time is any Disney "princess" movie or similar.
Dodger wrote: "Honestly, the best way to find the "source material" for Once Upon a Time is any Disney "princess" movie or similar."Hm. I would disagree. Disney is so prettified, fancified, sanitized and commercialized that it's next to worthless. Entertaining, but not really good as source material.

From the inventive minds of Lost executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis comes a bold new imagining of the world, where fairy tales and the modern-day are about to collide.
And they all lived happily ever after – or so everyone was led to believe. Emma Swan knows how to take care of herself. She's a 28-year-old bail bonds collector who's been on her own ever since she was abandoned as a baby. But when the son she gave up years ago finds her, everything starts to change. Henry is now 10 years old and in desperate need of Emma's help. He believes that Emma actually comes from an alternate world and is Snow White and Prince Charming's missing daughter. According to his book of fairytales, they sent her away to protect her from the Evil Queen's curse, which trapped the fairytale world forever, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world. Of course Emma doesn't believe a word, but when she brings Henry back to Storybrooke, she finds herself drawn to this unusual boy and his strange New England town. Concerned for Henry, she decides to stay for a while, but she soon suspects that Storybrooke is more than it seems. It's a place where magic has been forgotten, but is still powerfully close… where fairytale characters are alive, even though they don't remember who they once were. The epic battle for the future of all worlds is beginning, but for good to win, Emma will have to accept her destiny and fight like hell.
