What's not to love about Thomas. I have a huge crush on Thomas and I get a kick out of Harry's comments when talking about Thomas's looks.

I liked that one. McCammon runs hot and cold for me, but that one was good.

I did have to spend a lot of time cleaning up the blood stains in the room after I finished it...and it took forever for the smell to go away.

message 4405: by Rizwan (new)

Rizwan Khalil I'm currently just in the 2/3rd of Changes, and....HELLS. BELLS. By the way, Small Favor was pure awesomeness. Nicky and the Nickelheads are my favorite villains in this insane series :D

David Dalton | 152 comments Still reading Killer in Black (see post above) but now:

I'm reading the 2nd book featuring Creasy (from Man On Fire): The Perfect Kill by A.J. Quinnell . Author is A.J. Quinnell. There are at least 4 Creasy novels, and Amazon has all 4 on the Kindle Unlimited program (these books were long out of print, now on Kindle ~ sell for about $7.49 each).

Sharon Michael | 449 comments Started a re-read of the "Destroyermen" series by Taylor Anderson. Loved them when I read them, though they get a bit 'scattered' with the various battles in the later books. Enjoying the re-read and am finding it easier to follow all the actin with the re-read.

I do think (as often happens) the first book of the series is still my favorite. Into the Storm (Destroyermen, #1) by Taylor Anderson

Glenn Conley (gecizzle) | 1 comments Just finished In the After by Demitria Lunetta. It was surprisingly horrific for a young adult book. Here's my review. I'm just now starting the second book in the series In the End. Hope it's as good as the first. :)

message 4412: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I finished Shaken a fast read. A lot of back and forth with what's going on the the story which got a little confusing.

Started Tripwire good so far. Trying to get back to some of the series I've started.

Rizwan Khalil Finally finished reading the 12th book of the Dresden Files series Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher , and WOW. I have no words to describe the overwhelming feelings I'm having after the jaw-to-the-floor climax of this wilder than wild ride. I think I have to cool down for a bit to properly reorganize my thoughts and emotions that are a complete dissaray right now. Anyway, here is a short review (more like reaction) of CHANGES

So skip 38 of them to the last 2 Dresden #3 #4 I find #4 to be where this series has kicked in . didn't have the jerkiness of the first 3 but was smooth out the gate. Going to #5 then probably switch to something differe t

Hey Travis, interesting observation about Dresden as I think about #3 I gave up on them and went on to something else. Maybe I should go back though as I've said before I don't read nearly as many books as you do. I think I'm at about 16 or so for the year.

Just finished no.14 Cold Days (The Dresden Files, #14) by Jim Butcher . In my opinion, other than latest Skin Game which I'm currently reading, Dresden Files best-to-(relative)worse breakdown is:
1. 12-Changes, 2. 14-Cold Days, 3. 5-Death Masks, 4. 7-Dead Beat, 5. 11-Turn Coat, 6. 10-Small Favor, 7. 3-Grave Peril (there were some pacing problems in the middle, but overall the book's many plots and developments are some of the BIGGEST & MOST important ones for the whole series), 8. 13-Ghost Story (most fans don't like it much, but I really liked it), 9. 4-Summer Knight, 10. 6-Blood Rites, 11. 8-Proven Guilty, 12. 2-Fool Moon, 13. 9-White Night, 14. 1-Storm Front (although its at the bottom, it was still amazing and very entertaining, which again proves to me the greatness of this series and how frekking much I LOVE it!)

This is one series that you should probably start with the first book. That pretty much introduces most the main characters that follow through the rest of the series and gives you the background.

I think the others could probably be read in most any order and each book has a complete plotline, though I read them in order and enjoyed the progression in the lives of the characters.

Rizwan Khalil Finished Dresden Files no.15 Skin Game (The Dresden Files, #15) by Jim Butcher couple of days ago, and it's going straight to the 3rd favorite place of mine behind Changes and Cold Days, elbowing Death Masks out of the way... WOW, what an amazingly entertaining and addicting story! After being submerged in Dresden-verse for a whole year or so, its going to be very, very hard to patiently wait for the next book to be released next year. But I'm sure it'll be frekking awesome, Butcher is on a roll right now.

I'm on my 18th Honor Harrington book. Exploring the Honor-verse by David Weber first book On Basilisk Station.

This is a huge well planned out and crafted story universe. Fun characters, sexy people (men and women) and things blow up, get shot and there is allso skullduggery and cloak and dagger stuff... in a Military Space Opera sort of way.

One of my favorite 'space opera' series ... revisited often.

Eric Flint is another author that this kind of writing very well. I fell in love first with one of his standalones Mother of Demons by Eric Flint a very different alien/human meeting and conflict. Extremely well developed alien population.

Webber and Flint actualy have a series together that I've enjoyed. It's an Alternate history thing where a West Virginia coal mining town is suddenly snatched into 1633 Germany. Flint wrote the first one alone, then Webber gets "Co author status" for about 3 books. I think Webber and Flint know each other and Webber has always had some involvment. Webber is a Historian by education from North Carolina, I'm not sure about Flint but I believe he's also a historian.

That seires is "The Ring of Fire" and the first book is 1632. This is historical fiction, but there is some action in it, battles and what-not. More in the sequels than in the first one, and a really cool scene with a speed boat and the Danish Navy.

Harry is funny as heck. (view spoiler)

there are lots of fun scenes, lots of really good and interesting twists on politices and history and what people are like. Good stuff. It's on my list of fun reads.

1632 (Assiti Shards, #1) by Eric Flint

Oh, yes, that's another series that lives on my re-read shelves. In fact, just finished another re-read over the holidays when I wanted something I could pick up and put down.

Seems like we have some very similar tastes in books ... have you read the Vorkosigan series by Bujold?

Magician: Apprentice by Raymond E. Feist Magician Apprentice (The Riftwar Saga, #1) by Raymond E. Feist This is the first book. It's a good read. Janny Wurts had a hand in this series also and wrote her own series that takes place on the other side of the rift, (Krondor on one side, the other side on... the other side)

The fist book of that series is...Daughter of the Empire Daughter of the Empire (The Empire Trilogy, #1) by Raymond E. Feist They've been out for a while, lots of books in the series. I wasn't excited about how the last trilogy I read (Rise of a Merchant Prince.. that bunch) but the rest of them are good ol' Fantasy reads from way back. There are a couple of series and a handful of stand alones each one tends to involve it's own generation of characters and a mix of those that have been around a while.

It's a good read.

Michael (fisher_of_men) Just finished The Accident by Linwood Barclay. This was a 4-star page turner. A true thriller in every sense of the word with a great plot twist at the end. My New Years resolution is to READ MORE LINWOOD BARCLAY.

Rizwan Khalil Currently reading Sigma Force no.10 The 6th Extinction by James Rollins. Blame goes to Butcher and Harry Dresden to get around to read this one six months after publishing, but now its time to finally get back in the world of Sigma and my favorite cast of characters!

message 4449: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) While Feist's Magician is good, the real treasure is to read them & then dive into the Empire trilogy he co-wrote with Janny Wurts. I like both authors' writing, but together they were even better. Then there are 2 more books ('Silverthorn' & ... ?) that end that cycle started with Magician.

Feist has since written a ton of books in that world, but I think the first 7 are the best.

message 4450: by Michael (new)

Michael (fisher_of_men) I just finished I Stooged to Conquer: The Autobiography of the Leader of the Three Stooges by Moe Howard. (Yes, THAT Moe!) It's a 3-star firsthand account of the act throughout the 20th century. It's not a work of literature, but of interest to anyone (like myself) is a fan of the trio and wants to know a little of what went on behind-the-scenes of their wild and wacky short films.
