What are you reading now?

I love this series. I kind of love Thomas to ;)"
What's not to love about Thomas. I have a huge crush on Thomas and I get a kick out of Harry's comments when talking about Thomas's looks.
I liked that one. McCammon runs hot and cold for me, but that one was good.
I did have to spend a lot of time cleaning up the blood stains in the room after I finished it...and it took forever for the smell to go away.

I'm reading the 2nd book featuring Creasy (from Man On Fire):

I do think (as often happens) the first book of the series is still my favorite.

Started Tripwire good so far. Trying to get back to some of the series I've started.

Hey Travis, interesting observation about Dresden as I think about #3 I gave up on them and went on to something else. Maybe I should go back though as I've said before I don't read nearly as many books as you do. I think I'm at about 16 or so for the year.
Take your opportunity to vote for the 1st group read of the year of 2015. The January 2015 Group Read poll is up!

Just finished no.14

1. 12-Changes, 2. 14-Cold Days, 3. 5-Death Masks, 4. 7-Dead Beat, 5. 11-Turn Coat, 6. 10-Small Favor, 7. 3-Grave Peril (there were some pacing problems in the middle, but overall the book's many plots and developments are some of the BIGGEST & MOST important ones for the whole series), 8. 13-Ghost Story (most fans don't like it much, but I really liked it), 9. 4-Summer Knight, 10. 6-Blood Rites, 11. 8-Proven Guilty, 12. 2-Fool Moon, 13. 9-White Night, 14. 1-Storm Front (although its at the bottom, it was still amazing and very entertaining, which again proves to me the greatness of this series and how frekking much I LOVE it!)

This is one series that you should probably start with the first book. That pretty much introduces most the main characters that follow through the rest of the series and gives you the background.
I think the others could probably be read in most any order and each book has a complete plotline, though I read them in order and enjoyed the progression in the lives of the characters.

Scalzi is cool.
Scalzi is cool.
I'm on my 18th Honor Harrington book. Exploring the Honor-verse by David Weber first book On Basilisk Station.
This is a huge well planned out and crafted story universe. Fun characters, sexy people (men and women) and things blow up, get shot and there is allso skullduggery and cloak and dagger stuff... in a Military Space Opera sort of way.

One of my favorite 'space opera' series ... revisited often.
Eric Flint is another author that this kind of writing very well. I fell in love first with one of his standalones

Webber and Flint actualy have a series together that I've enjoyed. It's an Alternate history thing where a West Virginia coal mining town is suddenly snatched into 1633 Germany. Flint wrote the first one alone, then Webber gets "Co author status" for about 3 books. I think Webber and Flint know each other and Webber has always had some involvment. Webber is a Historian by education from North Carolina, I'm not sure about Flint but I believe he's also a historian.
That seires is "The Ring of Fire" and the first book is 1632. This is historical fiction, but there is some action in it, battles and what-not. More in the sequels than in the first one, and a really cool scene with a speed boat and the Danish Navy.
Harry is funny as heck. (view spoiler)
there are lots of fun scenes, lots of really good and interesting twists on politices and history and what people are like. Good stuff. It's on my list of fun reads.

Oh, yes, that's another series that lives on my re-read shelves. In fact, just finished another re-read over the holidays when I wanted something I could pick up and put down.
Seems like we have some very similar tastes in books ... have you read the Vorkosigan series by Bujold?

Library has some of them, will pick up a couple the next time I'm there. Thanks.

Magician: Apprentice by Raymond E. Feist
This is the first book. It's a good read. Janny Wurts had a hand in this series also and wrote her own series that takes place on the other side of the rift, (Krondor on one side, the other side on... the other side)
The fist book of that series is...Daughter of the Empire
They've been out for a while, lots of books in the series. I wasn't excited about how the last trilogy I read (Rise of a Merchant Prince.. that bunch) but the rest of them are good ol' Fantasy reads from way back. There are a couple of series and a handful of stand alones each one tends to involve it's own generation of characters and a mix of those that have been around a while.
It's a good read.

Feist has since written a ton of books in that world, but I think the first 7 are the best.
