From the author of the Charlotte Fox books, this is a new, unrelated series. Promising so far. She's a terrific writer.

This sounds good. I'll have to check it out!

Tim The Enchanter I have been reading Under Enemy Colors. A great historical novel with action and adventure on the high seas. Really enjoying it so far.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 226 comments I finished Poison Pill last week. I'll have to wait for my review to come out on Criminal Element before I can post a summary here. A potentially decent story sabotaged by amateurish writing. Two stars.

Poison Pill by Glenn Kaplan

Now reading and ARC of Outlaw: A Robin Monarch Novel , also for Criminal Element.

I'm currently listening to The Road to Gandolfo by Robert Ludlum narrated by Scott Brick. It's great.

Anyone who likes Ludlum-esque spy stories and Espionage Thrillers whill get a kick out of this. I never expected Ludlum to have a sense of humor like this, nor Scott Brick to pull it off so well. It's a great performance and the story is funny. In many ways, it's as much a satire of the world today as it was the Vietnam War Era it was written in. It's good.

Okay, this is unexpectedly good. If you like the Ludlum spy stories, and I do, and you like audiobooks, by necessity - I do, then this is a gem. I didn't expect serious talking Scott Brick the Narrator to have a funny bone in his body. Yet, he pulls off the jokes like a pro. And best of all, Ludlum's poking fun at his own books novels and characters, and james bond and I think some Desmond Bagely pokes are in here too.

You'll like it, and on this one, the audiobook is a lot of fun too. Scott Brick's voice is ussually like the "narrator's voice'" on tose old 60s and 70s cartoons (the "serious ones"). He uses it to full advantage here.

I've laughed aloud listening several times. already. Very's 70s and 60s ish though.

Eileen I'm halfway done with Lightning by Dean Koontz and I'm enjoying. A good story just need it to move along a little faster.

On the lighter side, I'm reading The Ransom of Brownie by C.L. Bevill it's a fast read and every page I laugh out loud. Can't go wrong with laughing.

I'm reading The Thousand Names. It's got a lot of action. It's an unusual fantasy story, more alternate reality with all the trimmings of Napoleonic war and The War of 1812. Muskets and soldiers.

Part of it brought me back to Navy Bootcamp where I was put in a rifle company and had to learn to march formations. "FORM A square" That's not one I learned but I did learn oblique marching and maneuvering. As the RCPO, I got to give the orders.

And the battle action is pretty cool. Reminds me of Little Round Top in the TNT Movie "Gettysburg". Intense, on the ground eyes in front.

Road to Gandolfo is my favorite Ludlum book -- bar none -- because for once, he's in on the joke.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 226 comments Just finished Outlaw: A Robin Monarch Novel . If you can get past the ninth-level suspension of disbelief needed for the basic premise, it's a pretty good read. Author Sullivan, an escapee from the Patterson factory, can tell a tale, and his hero isn't as superheroic as the alpha males in these sorts of stories often are (that's a good thing for me). I'd give it 3.5 stars if we could give half-stars; once I write the review for Criminal Element, I'll figure out whether I'll round up or down.

Outlaw A Robin Monarch Novel by Mark Sullivan

Starting Hot Art: Chasing Thieves and Detectives Through the Secret World of Stolen Art . Yes, there's a reason I'm reading all these art-crime books.

I thought the end was the best bit. The rest was a really a travelogue of Florence. I do want to read the next one now due to the ending.

It reminded me of a book called Gray Redemption with a similar end to it.

Travelogues are more direct and to the point. That was my last Dan Brown novel. If he thinks he can write down everything his tour guide says and have readers buy it, he should start over.

The main character is fantastic. The jewel heist background is fascinating. The laughs are off the chart. If you are a GOLFER, there's a bit in there that is priceless. If you are not a GOLFER, it's still priceless. This will make for a rollicking movie.
