Still Life With Crows is one of my favorite Pendergast novels.

I haven't read Cave Bear, but from what I have heard, I don't think so. The Gear's is a tale about the earliest Americans. Yes, Wolf is the earliest time period. Not sure they wrote them in the order they happened. They have written 20-30. I read People of the Mists first. I especially liked that one. But reading in order of occurrence would tie the mythology together.

When they announced that Cruise was going to play the lead, I thought it was a terrible choice.

I will watch it when it comes out on the movie channels. It was filmed here in Pittsburgh. I think it was in the Summer of 2011.

Well that is cool Scott. Still not sure I will watch it. Don't want a vision of Tom Cruise everytime I read a Reacher novel.

About halfway through Origins and I'm finding this to be a good read. If you've finished or grown tired of Jack Campbels "The Lost Fleet" or DePrima's "Galaxy Unknown" you'll probably enjoy this one. Curmei likes!

You'd probably like Joe Pike from The Watchman by Robert Crais too. That's Elvis Cole 11 or something like that, but Joe Pike #1.

I just finished Origins by Randolph Lalonde. It is a good read and a fine example of action adventuere Space Oriented Sci-fi. Some of the reviews talked about typos etc but the story was good enough that I didn't notice them (maybe two), and I really enjoyed it. If I wanted to say it's "like" something, it would have to be a lot of somethings.

Like Star Trek TNG, Like Star Wars, Like The Lost Fleet, Like space 1999 (TV Show), like Battlestar Galactica 2005 (TV show), like... you get the idea.

If you want to read a good sci-fi book that is also an Indie-pub, and better than most, try this one. Even if your not so wrapped up in sci-fi, you may find that the characters are likeable and palletable and the stories exciting enough to see you past the futuristic detail that comes with most Sci-Fi.

I'd say this is 0.1 stars better than Wool. Or maybe more. Fun book and all $2.99 or less for Kindle. Long series with spin offs and such. I liked it. (Reminds me of an old Syndicated Cable Sci-fi show with Kevin Sorbo that I used to watch in the early days of Sci-fi... except with a book, you don't have to deal with the bad acting and hokey special effects.)

I've started a reread of The Bourne Identity and am well and truly hooked. A couple of library books I already have out will just have to wait.

message 1717: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I'm finishing up Deadlocked and it's been okay. Not a lot of action in the book. The story makes me think I'm watching a episode of a TV show, a filler to the final episode. If that makes sense. I've read the first 11 in the series and I hear there's only one more left in the series so I have to see how it ends.

I just finished Vampires are from Venus, Werewolves are from Mars by Vera Nazarian.

I needed a break from all the serious reading. It's worth the read, short, quick funny. Some formating errors in the Kindle version and typos but nothing that bothered me. A light heart is needed and it's especially recommended for those who love, love, loved twilight or hate, hate, hated it, those who liked Glamour by Penelope Fletcher, and, Monster Hunter International fans.

It's written in a rambling stream of consciousness that might be annoing to some anal retentive types, but I thought it was funny. I recommend it for those who have started to take their reading (and/or writing) too seriously.

A laugh never hurt anyone... well, last time I checked anyway.

Welcome Mark, I've read a couple Jack Reacher stories and liked both of them. I also like Robert Crais tough guy hero "Joe Pike."

I have been reading Origins and liked it so much I am now reading Spinward Fringe Resurection (#2) and Awakenings (#3) (in combined kindle book)

I'm liking this series. it's Indie-Pub but, I like it as much or better than I did Wool, and I liked Wool. It's part Space-Fantasy (character focused/event focused) and part Military Space-Opera (like Battlestar Galactica 2005, the TV show).

It's a good read so far. Book 2 starts a bit slower than book one, but by the 20% mark I'm even more into it than I was "Origins." It's a good series.

I finished Spinward Fringe Resurrection and Awakening and started the fourth book in the series Spinward Fringe Triton all by Spinward Fringe Triton.

It's been a pretty good series so far. Indie Pub. I think it's a good example of a good Indie Pub. It's better than Wool, a little better maybe. Good characters, really interesting world building, multi-layered plot, multiple points of view and consistent. Action (battles and fights) no sex but some romance (Sex is clearly alluded too). Strong Female characters. Good villains.

A couple of transparent plot hitches, but, they kind of came across as "sharing the secret with the reader, and keeping it from the characters." (that means it worked). I'll recommend at least this much of the series. Still reading. (it did get my attention).

I looked up No Orchids For Miss Blandish and found it to be serious old time Crime Noir. It looks interesting. Are you enjoying it?

message 1740: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt I really do like it so far. If you like Dashiell Hammett or Raymond Chandler you will like this book. Old school pulp/noir with lots of double crosses.

This writing style isn't for everyone, but I have a real soft spot for Hammett and Chandler so I really am loving this book.

I was reading a review on it and the author is from the U.K. and never set foot in the US. He learned about his settings from reading the Atlas maps and other research. I found that amusing. It was written in 1971, and this guy was already wanting some Internet Magic!

message 1742: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt Apparently he loved the American style crime novel, I think he read James M. Cain and decided to give it a try. The original publication was in 1939 but he went back later and revised it for a "modern" audience.

Another classic pulp/noir title. He was heavily criticized about this book being "very" similar to William Faulkner's Sanctuary. I haven't read that yet so I can't really comment.

Close enough! (and anyone who works in a Nursing Home should watch Leo Buscaglia's "Let's Talk About Love" at least once. But then, that's me, seen it?). but I digress... yes, let me know if you like First Light. I am really enjoying them.
